I found Ideal Beauty Academy through Groupon and purchased their 60 min signature facial. This was…read moredefined as the student evaluating your skin for dry and oily areas, then selecting products to best hydrate and brighten it. The hours for the academy are somewhat limited if you work first shift. I believe their last available appointment is 3p. I booked my service for 2p and while it was an hour for the facial (per the Groupon), I didn't leave before 1.5 hrs. This is fairly common for a service at beauty school so prepare accordingly. The students need additional time to ask questions and have check ins with their instructor. I enjoyed my facial and felt that I learned a lot about my skin and its condition. If you've not experienced a facial it includes exfoliation, serums and masks. While the mask is setting you also receive an arm / hand massage. My skin felt great and I looked refreshed. The redness on my cheeks was also calmer. The academy itself is simple. A check in desk and classroom on the first floor, and upstairs another classroom setting with a few rooms for facials and other services. The tables are basic, more similar to a medial or massage table than a cushioned one you'd find at a salon; however, I wasn't uncomfortable. You'll also experience sounds around you as others come into the room for supplies or the next customer is only divided by a curtain. Again, part of the experience attending a teaching academy. As long as you hold the correct expectations you won't be disappointed.

I recently redeemed a Groupon for a 60 minute facial. This is a beauty school so I didn't come with…read morehigh expectations. The facility is a little dated, more so upstairs where the facial took place. This isn't a big deal to me but does detract from the ambience of a spa service. Everyone I encountered was polite and friendly. Although it was mentioned to me that service prices had increased since the purchase of my Groupon but they would "honor it anyway"...uh yeah...you better, that's kinda how that works.... My aesthetician cleaned and surveyed my skin. She called in her professor to indicate her plan of action. She then suggested I upgrade to a better line of products for an additional $15. Although my gut told me it wasn't worth it, I agreed any ways. I particularly hate being put on the spot like that. She told me that she needed to get the supplies and was gone for quite a while. When she returned I assume I was given a mask, cleaned and then maybe given a moisturizer. None of this was well explained to me. The actual time she spent on my facial was probably closer to 30-40 minutes, given the waits in between (going to get professor, going to get supplies) I haven't had many facials but the ones I have had have always included some kind of extraction or serious exfoliation. This one did not. It was mostly just her massaging and wiping products off my face. There was also no recommendations or follow up care provided. I tipped 20% on the full amount, which I consider generous given that it was a student/school situation and I wasn't super thrilled. I'm not sure the aesthetician even thanked me. For the quality of service and the cost I ended up paying, I will try a different spot for my beauty service needs.

I want to bring up the negative to get it out of the way...if you're looking for a spa experience,…read morethis is not the place to go. The facilities are dated, and the overall appearance is messy. Even as a training school, I was disappointed at how run down the place is, especially being located at prime real estate on Bardstown Road. I rarely get manis because I'm pretty darn good at doing my own nails, but there was a Groupon for a $15 gel manicure so I figured, why not? Now the positive--my nails look fabulous! And isn't that what really matters? My nail tech student was Thea. She has been training for only a month and she gave me a modern French manicure with fun colors. I showed her a photo I found on Instagram, and she did a fantastic job painting something similar for me. I'm not sure how much longer Thea will work there, but I hope to return before she graduates. For the price, give this place a chance!

As a former student, I will have to advise any future students to avoid this 'academy' at all…read morecosts. You will merely be paying for a YouTube-self taught certificate. Di Tran is an absolute vile person and has been known to lie and scam students to get more money. STATE BOARD- This academy advises students to use practices that go against state board regulations. They make students reuse wax sticks in order to 'save money' because the director, Di Tran, is notorious for being too cheap to buy proper/enough supplies for the students to practice learning. The steamer in the esthetician room was broke and barely held up by tape, creating an unsafe environment for both students and clients. STUDENTS BEWARE- This academy is very relaxed but only if you pay your tuition and don't call them out on their lies/laziness. They would make students pay for supplies such as wax sticks, wax beads, acrylic, etc. In the esthetician room, there were hundreds of fruit flies festering due to the uncleanliness of the academy. Students were the primary cleaners of the building, which should never happen if they were there to be LEARNING vs CLEANING. They never went over full sanitation methods and it's very unclear on how to clean/ prep your area. The barbicide was 4+ months old before it was replaced, although they claim to be barbicide certified and practicing those protocols of 'replacing barbicide every 24 hours'. There was very little interaction with the instructors and it was all self taught or learned through other students in the program. LIES- Di Tran has been known to let students complete their hours and then at the end demand more tuition money as they 'didn't uphold full-time hours'. I've heard from previous students how they paid for their tuition completely in the beginning yet when it came time to be certified they were threatened to pay more or else they will be sent to collections and never receive their certificate. NOT VA CERTIFIED- Di Tran told me personally over the phone their program was VA certified and I was able to use benefits at this school. This was far from the truth and once I completed 444 hours of the 750 for the esthetician program, I was notified by the VA that this school was never eligible to accept benefits due to them not having accreditation. The school is NOT in the process of becoming accredited because they profit off vulnerable individuals who have to balance a work/school/mom life. After notifying Di of the school not being VA-certified he claimed "we are new to this. Looks like you will have to pay for school tuition". Di allows students to go through the program or complete it and becomes hostile to get more money out of students. Please run as far as you can from this academy. Go to a school that doesn't take shortcuts and will teach you actual safe sanitation procedures. The only positive this school offers-flexible hours. In the screenshots starting on August 5, I was texting Di Tran to have my paperwork completed. He completely slacked his feet up til November 15th when I was notified by the VA the program was never eligible to receive benefits. The "scholarship" is a scam and scheme they use against students who complete the program. GO TO ANY OTHER SCHOOL!!! THIS IS NOT A RARE OCCURRENCE HERE!!!

Most of the time, he's an honest man. In this case, I felt compelled to help him be able to defend that statement in a courtroom. However, I am not the sort of woman who concerns herself much with acrylic nails or makeup so I forgot to book appointments anywhere. I was reminded that I needed a good scrub and spackle a couple of days before the event and panicked. Fortunately, the people who care very much about this kind of stuff were happy to help me. In fact, they're all investing in careers in that stuff right here in this building. I called, explained what I needed, they told me when to show up, and I got done up. Now, I was a little *overdone* but that was my fault. I had no idea what to request. I looked amazing, though. Be sure to allow *plenty* of time. These are students and they are learning so they may need lots of extra time to complete the task. It also might really help to be clear about what you want.
