We told them that we were in a rush to get to the top of the hill before the sunset and I asked the owner to select a wine for us. He picked the most amazing white wine, opened the bottle for us and put plastic cups in a bag and sent us on our way. He was so accommodating. And the price of the wine was excellent. If you ever go to Rome it's worth a trip to this wine shop to stock up on amazing and reasonably priced wine.

This was to be our last lunch in Roma so we joyfully consumed the very tasty mozzarella and ham and the Bruschetta appetizers and then I had my way with an incredible lasagna, where Il Piccolo did not skimp on the meat (as is done is some restaurants). We sat and read through our Rick Steves' guide book and just enjoyed a good hour of conversation and taking in the sights and sounds around us. You have to walk past a small gauntlet of eateries with waiters or hosts outside encouraging you to come to their restaurant, as is typical in areas where there are many tourists. When we came upon this Enoteca Piccolo no one was doing that here, and no one did during our entire stay. It was quaint and charming and quickly filled up with other Italian-speaking patrons. Since I've now read other reviews about their good wine selection, I'd like to go back to try that, too.

Passing by I walked in on a whim and was glad I did. Inside it's set up like an old school general store of sorts. Shelves upon shelves of all sorts of food are everywhere you look--from herbs and spices, olive oils and balsamic vinegars, dried pastas of regional brands and variety, candy and chocolates, canned/jarred/dried products from artichokes to lentils to anchovies, roasted coffee beens, even international items Thai curry sauce and Middle Eastern tahini. Hundreds of bottles of wine and liquors line the shelves. Spending about 30 minutes here, I found some pasta and cooking spices to bring back for friends as souvenirs. The prices were higher than a regular supermarket though some brands appeared to be less commonplace (or least I hope they were for those pasta prices lol). Would stop by again if in that part of Rome!

It's right off of Campo de Fiori and it's a nice respite from the pushy restauranteurs and the sometimes loud musicians in the square. It's very low key and a great place to be able to sit and chat and actually hear the other people talk without having to yell. It's almost like you are sitting in a little wine cellar. Shelves of wine adorn the walls so it's very cozy. It would be a great place to bring a date for sure. On our most recent visit, the gentleman that served us was especially helpful and welcoming. We asked about the various food and wine offerings and after we settled on a cheese board, the gentleman proceeded to suggest some wine pairings and also walked us through the different cheeses on the board and how they were made and what made each of them unique. Very friendly staff. There are a few stools in the back where you can eat the panini but I'd suggest taking it to Piazza Navona which is just a block away. A small shop, but one whole wall is lined with a variety of fantastic local beers. We selected six to take home, and I enjoyed looking at their wide variety of bagged pastas and olive oils. The beers were all about €5 each, so a bit steep, but really nice. Our favourite so far is an IPA called Beach Volley. The brewer isn't made very clear from the white label adorning the bottle, but it was very nice. They do accept credit cards and have reasonable opening hours. If you're nearby and on the lookout for interesting beers or pastas, check them out!

If you want to find interesting local beers to take away then this is absolutely the place to come. One brewery who stood out was a Rome brewery called The Art of Beer who are obviously quite new. I call it a beer shop, but it does also have some liquors, wines, oils and sauces too. The beer is just where they really distinguish themselves for me. Ran into some different people working here and they were all really friendly and they all knew some English!
