From there, I encountered other serious concerns including how my care was handled, how questions were received, and how referrals were managed. When I started advocating for myself, I was met with resistance instead of support and was eventually cut off from care with no formal explanation or help transitioning elsewhere. I also found both Dr. Meghan Dillman and Richard Dillman to be unprofessional in their communication and conduct. As a patient, I felt dismissed, uncomfortable, and at times pressured in ways that did not feel appropriate for a healthcare setting. From what I observed, the clinic appears to be shifting away from full-scope family-focused care and leaning more into elective out-of-pocket cosmetic procedures. If you are looking for a genuine family-centered clinic that prioritizes long-term care and patient trust, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I am sharing this so others can make informed decisions and feel confident advocating for themselves.

My experience at Mayo Clinic in Rochester has profoundly changed my understanding of what excellent…read moremedical care can look like. I came to Mayo during an extraordinarily difficult period of my life, facing both extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) and breast cancer after having already been through a brain tumor. I was frightened, exhausted, and trying to navigate multiple specialists and major decisions at once. One of the most important reasons I sought care at Mayo was its highly specialized experience treating EMPD, an extremely rare cancer for which expertise and surgical technique matter enormously. Before coming to Mayo, the options available to me locally were very different. I had been counseled toward wide local excision and came away believing that I should expect recurrence and potentially a devastating long-term prognosis. No one in my area could offer me the highly specialized, multidisciplinary, margin-controlled approach Mayo has developed for this disease. When I researched Mayo's outcomes, I discovered something that gave me hope for the first time: Mayo physicians have helped study a Mohs approach using CK-7 immunostaining in which only 2.3% of primary EMPD tumors in that published series had a local recurrence -- meaning 97.7% had no observed local recurrence. Mayo has continued to refine this approach specifically for female genital EMPD through collaboration among Mohs surgery, gynecologic oncology, plastic surgery, and other specialties when needed. That expertise is ultimately what brought me to Rochester. My own EMPD surgery required an extraordinarily long Mohs procedure, followed by reconstruction, but my team continued until I had completely clear margins. Hearing that I had 100% clear margins after everything I had feared remains one of the most meaningful moments of my life. What distinguished Mayo, however, was not simply the expertise of individual physicians, although that expertise was extraordinary. It was the way the entire system worked together around me. Dermatologic surgery, gynecologic oncology, plastic surgery, breast surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, advanced practice providers, and coordinating physicians communicated in a way that made complicated care feel organized rather than fragmented. I repeatedly experienced specialists who understood not only their particular portion of my treatment, but also what I had already endured and what the next member of the team needed to know. Just as importantly, I was treated like a person. My physicians and advanced practice providers took time to educate me, answer questions, respect my decisions, and acknowledge the emotional burden of multiple serious diagnoses. Several called me personally with results or updates. Others sat with me, held my hand before surgery, shared humor or pieces of their own lives, and made frightening experiences feel human and manageable. My breast cancer was treated with a breast-conserving approach that preserved far more than I had expected physically and emotionally. Throughout both cancers, I felt that the people caring for me were thoughtful about not only eliminating disease, but also preserving quality of life, dignity, function, and my ability to make informed decisions about my own body. I have repeatedly found myself thinking that somehow the exact person I needed appeared at the exact moment I needed them. Mayo gave me something I had been struggling to find elsewhere: a genuine sense of safety in medical care. I arrived frightened about what these diagnoses might mean for the rest of my life. I left knowing that I had received care from people who had devoted significant expertise to understanding diseases as rare as mine and who were willing to work across specialties to give me the best outcome they could. I am profoundly grateful for the expertise, compassion, interdisciplinary collaboration, and humanity I experienced there. Mayo Clinic has earned my deepest trust.

After living in multiple cities from coast to coast, finding physicians who are medical intellectuals has become next to impossible. Corporate medicine has had an effective coup, and American health care is now mostly about money. The Mayo Clinic is the exception. The physicians at Mayo in Rochester that I have encountered are deep thinkers who find templates demeaning. They see their patients as individuals, treating each one separately from the thousands of others they see. Their support staff absorb this attitude and treat patients with respect. At least, that's what I observe. Sprinkle in "Minnesota Nice," and I always feel a level of security at the Mayo Clinic. I now live in Minneapolis, but for most of my medical needs, I will travel to Rochester.

To my surprise after driving around for well over 45 minutes not finding this supposed building assuming it clearly doesn't exist. I had even stopped into woodwinds hospital just to be told that I need to drive around to the other side of the building. Because the "renta cops" there could not help me. They refuse to walk me to neurology. Needless to say, I never found this "1875 Woodwinds" address. It CLEARLY doesn't exist! This appointment was made 5 months ago. I'd like to know why the hell I was never notified that this building / address is not in existence! I better NOT be getting charged for this appointment either - because that won't be getting paid! Unprofessionalism is completely ridiculous! (even stopping inside SEVERAL nearby businesses, asking for directions) So apparently I just have to continue living in pain and agony with my feet. Feeling like I'm always walking on hot broken glass, puffiness, redness, hotness and falling and being off balance constantly. Oftentimes I even have to walk and use a cane to stabilize myself enough to balance to even try to walk. So apparently I just have to live with all of this pain because there is no doctor that is able to correct this or help me.

The pharmacy would not give me an inhaler because the doctor did not fill out the order correctly. I have called Fairview twice in the week since my appointment and they said they can see my first call was marked for the doctor to get to right away but he did not get to it. How much work should I have to put in to calling the pharmacy and the doctor to communicate their miscommunication? What if I need my inhaler before I get it?

If you live in the Lakeville, Eagan or Burnsville area and are looking for the best primary doctor…read moreyou can find, Dr. Thadepalli is as good as it gets. Until this past year, I've enjoyed good health, but suddenly suffered a myriad of symptoms that I saw two primary care doctors, both of whom left their practices, leaving me undiagnosed. I had so many symptoms that came on so suddenly, I was unable to work for the first time in my life and I dreaded going to yet another doctor. I feared I'd be mistaken for a hypochondriac or worse, but Dr. Thadepalli listened to me and asked questions as I talked, almost as if he'd been reading my (non-existent) diary. Dr. Thadepalli quickly diagnosed me, making me comfortable that the treatment plan he prescribed would address my health issues step by step until I was back to my old self. He had me see some wonderful specialists, knowing just who to send me for compassionate, expert care. Dr. Thadepalli made me feel that he would not be satisfied until I was not just better, but thriving. He took his time with me, listened carefully, demonstrated a high level of expertise and went to bat for me twice: once with my health insurance regarding medication coverage and the second time, with my short-term disability carrier, without my even asking. I know for a fact that he worked late into the evening on a couple of occasions to tirelessly advocate for me, which I am eternally grateful for. Now, I am almost back to my former self and just wanted to advocate for him. Thanks to Dr. Thadepalli, I didn't lose my job and my husband has his wife back and our children have the old me back again. Dr. Thadepalli, I know how hard you've worked for me and know that you bring dedication and championship to patients when it just seems too much to go on. I want you to know how much I appreciate it these several months later. My husband, son Jon and I will all be seeing you this new year for all of our health care needs. Thank you for all of your advocacy and championship and for believing things would get better at a time I'd lost hope. You are a treasure.

I began going to Allina primarily for my weekly allergy shot injections but also to be under the care and supervision of a psychiatrist. Since Allina is close to St. Olaf, it seemed like it would be easy and convenient. Sadly, my experiences at the Northfield Allina Health Clinic have been negative. First, despite having a regular appointment time every week, I am often waiting for a while after my appointment time to be seen. Second, the individual administering my allergy shots tends to speak to me in a condescending and rather insulting manner. Yes I am on the autism spectrum, but I am an adult and I don't need to be talked-down-to by my medical provider that I am paying for. Third, they have a policy where you MUST wait 30 minutes after receiving your allergy shot (in contrast, my allergy injection clinic at home in Illinois typically does not make me wait, and when I rarely do have to it is only for 10 mins; also, I have epi-pens and have had no adverse reactions in the past so this policy just wastes my time. Fourth, my family helped me set up care with a psychiatrist at the start of the school year. A month or so ago, I found out my psychiatrist was unexpectedly leaving the Allina Health Clinic. They assured me they would transfer me to another psychiatrist at the clinic for continuity of care. Well that was a lie. The soonest appointment with this new psychiatrist was not until three months going forward. Yikes. As if that wasn't bad enough, Allina called me to tell me they had an earlier opening for a 7:45 am appointment in January. I was excited and relieved I would get to see my psychiatrist sooner. Then they tell me the provider actually doesn't come in that early, that I will have to reschedule, and that they already gave my original March appointment to someone else so it will take even longer to see someone. Seriously!? You call me to reschedule me to a time slot that actually doesn't work and then refuse to give me priority to my original appointment date and time? Avoid this clinic at all costs. The only reason I still use them is because I am their hostage / have no other choice. I am not allowed to administer my own allergy shots, the St. Olaf nurse's office does not administer allergy shots, and the Northfield hospital does not administer allergy shots either. So for now I'm stuck with them unless I decide to drive for an hour into Minneapolis or St. Paul for better quality and more professional healthcare.
