I recently had my hair colored and cut at Emris Penny and was skeptical at first because of the lack of reviews/information I could find on the salon, especially since I live nearby it, but once I spoke with my stylist and arrived, I was much more relaxed and had a good vibe going. I bought a Groupon which included highlights and haircut and it was actually an "all-inclusive" Groupon, which didn't require you to pay extra for a blowout or long hair, however if you needed toner or gloss, there would be a surcharge (if required). Luckily, mine didn't. My stylist Raquel did everything: consultation, color, washout, cut and blowdry, which not many salons do, and she did it really well, giving me super-fine, natural cool blonde color, without any yellow/brassy/etc tones. I was pretty ecstatic with the color and how perfect the blow-out was - that it wasn't rushed and flat, but instead wavy and bouncy. I only wish it could look this phenomenal everyday! The only downside (why I gave it 4 out of 5) to the salon is that I think there should be a receptionist, as the phone was ringing quite a bit and my stylist, along with another, had to keep stopping mid-styling to answer it, and I wish their hours were a bit more flexible, as due to my schedule, I could only come in on a Saturday. read more

I find it amazing that sometimes years go by before I treat myself to a cut and color and yet when I walk in Penny (the owner) always remembers me and greats me with a warm welcome. She's always willing to take me on short notice and makes me look fabulous! I love this place and I recommend it to everyone and anyone looking to get a beauty make over! I recently had a hair cut and keratin treatment done at Emris Penny Salon. I have had many (keratin treatments) done in the past - so am familiar with the process. I was told this would last months. The process lasted less than 2 weeks. Frankly, the first time I washed and blow-dried my hair it seemed like the process was not washed out with my (sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner). I would have been understanding of this- however when I called I was told to come in with the shampoo I use and so they could see my hair at the salon (this was 2 1/2 weeks later- I didn't go back immediately as I went on a vacation). However, when I did call to tell them of the problem I was told that they were open all day that afternoon (a Friday) til 5 PM. I got there at 4 and they were closed. I showed up then the next day- a Saturday, another day they have hours - and they were closed at 1. When I finally did get there when they were open I was greeted by an immediate negative response. I was told the treatment was still in my hair (all evidence proved otherwise, esp since I just got a new keratin treatment done yesterday and the hairdresser could not tell me she felt any keratin left at all. Anyway, my bigger problem was that the hairdresser at Emris Penny was not that helpful (she told me a weird thing too- that she calls all of her clients after a treatment and that everybody was happy. I told her she never called me- she said she did and I must not have picked up or there was a problem with the call (how convenient for her) but no, I received no call on the one number they have of mine- that they called me at to confirm the appt before I had the treatment. Anyway, the owner was not helpful either. They told me all they could do was do the treatment again (at full cost). Why would I do that when they used a bad formula and showed little attempt at any customer service. Basically, they were just lacking in actual hair services and customer relations. I do not recommend them especially when there are so many good places out there. Their prices also seem to be higher than average for the services as well. read more

I bought a groupon for a full head of highlights, cut and blow dry at Emris on a whim. I am so incredibly pleased with Raquel's work. You have to be a fool to pass up such a deal for excellent services. I loved the color and cut and look forward to gong back in a few months. I used to dread going to the salon, but Raquel makes it easy because she's quick while taking her time, gives her opinion if you want it, was so accommodating to my schedule, only worked on me, did everything from wash, dry, cut and color and she did an awesome job. The fact that I'm taking the time to write a review speaks volumes in itself :). read more
