6 weeks into the semester, the math teacher had to continue to keep the students on independent study because this was the classroom

Please don't send your kids to Encore. The free arts education isn't worth compromising on your kid's safety and education. Encore Riverside has two jobs. Educate our kids and keep them safe. They are doing neither. I was already disappointed in the academics and horrified with how the teachers and administration skew the grading to make it appear as though the students are performing better than they actually are and had planned on pulling both of my kids out as soon as they were accepted into the other charter school I had them waitlisted on but then safety concerns came up and we had to pull them immediately The school is located in downtown Riverside and the kids walk between 5 of the downtown buildings for classes. There are supposed to be proctors along the path of travel within eyesight of each other to make sure the kids get safely from building to building (as advertised) and do not get accosted by the large population of homeless or other adults. This does not happen consistently and my 12 year old was sent to walk a half mile between buildings without any proctors present and my 14 year old has been in unsupervised "classes" multiple times in the past two weeks because they have laid off so many staff members and teachers that they literally don't have enough substitutes to cover in the classrooms. My kid's dad was able to enter the school building my daughter had classes in from an unlocked door to the street, make his way to the classroom and shoot the breeze with the class without being stopped, questioned, sent away. When he headed up to the admin building to lodge a complaint, he was lied to, stonewalled, and gaslighted until he told them he had been in the classroom and had seen it for himself. My kids have had nothing but short term substitutes in multiple classes since the beginning of the year and my kids, who are good students, are frustrated with the lack of instruction and direction in the classrooms. Contrary to the huge publicity about being a "no bullying" zone, my daughter has brought home videos taken in class of a student that repetitively bullies classmates in front of the instructor and is simply told to "settle down". Filed complaints by the students have resulted in nothing. I have voice recordings of instructors telling the students to write letters to RUSD telling them how wonderful the school is and if they don't, they are essentially telling the teachers they don't care if they have a job or not. Some the the core subject instructors are clearly dedicated excellent teachers but they are in the minority. Please don't be swayed by a "free" arts education. Your kids will lose out in the end. And check out the pic I posted of the math classroom. It took 6 weeks for the whiteboard and an electrical outlet to be moved to the center of the wall where all the students in the overcrowded classroom could see it. As a result, the teacher had to have the kids to independent study the first 6 weeks of the semester. It was only after multiple phone calls and emails from parents that the board was moved.

Ask the Community - Encore High School

Is Encore high school a good, polite, professional,up to california standards school?

From my experience, absolutely not. The staff is extremely unprofessional and biased. The school is run by people who barely know what they're doing and to add on they take complaints lightly. Most classes don't even have a permanent teacher and… Read more

My daughter was taking a couple courses at VVC this past summer. I ended up checking out this campus on her first day. General parking is $2 per day which isn't too bad. If you can apply for their free interim parking pass, then do so because it will save you some money... you'll get a temporary pass until you receive a physical parking decal. Their student services building is fantastic... place for students to obtain assistance on whatever inquiries or issues they may have... met a few wonderful staff. Their library is very clean and organized as it should be... two floors of books and references... their staff is amazing. I met a couple sweet ladies... Sueann and April... thank you so much for all your help that day on setting up my daughter with the Cares Act program for books and supplies. I appreciate you both. Their bookstore is of good size, but they seem to be out of inventory most of the time... can't seem to have books and school supplies in stock for long. They have their Desert Rock Cafe, but it was closed when I was there so didn't get a chance to check it out. They also have Food Pantry set up on campus to provide short-term food relief, free to their VVC students... my daughter was able to take advantage of this program... thank you! VVC also has a really nice man-made lake where all the ducks hang out. Love them ducks! Just a lovely campus overall. Every time I call the campus for information, their staff is very friendly, pleasant, and helpful in every way. After high school, I am grateful my daughter will be finishing her general education courses at VVC before transferring to a four year college. Thank you VVC and all the staff and professors for your service!

They told her she's not able to enroll due to no classes available,. We asked what about the next semester she said we won't have anything open then , we asked what about after that she said, we won't have anything available for a while. She then said you have to apply, which my daughter had all information on hand she then proceeded to say, well you need to apply for FAFSA and you need your parents information well like I said everything was already done . It's so disappointing how their answers are basically we can't help you. Thank god for other colleges that do help you and will help with the process. I have no idea how this place is running it's so foreign to me . I will take my daughter Down the hill to attend college. That's where we come from anyways i just never seen anything like this. A waste of time . Don't bother with this collage there are many others that' are really good and helpful.

Also during my last semester the school did not provide critical care equipment to practice with such as A lines ect. Also the turn over with teachers is big and we were told by various professors that the pay for them is not good, which was very unprofessional to tell students. Additionally when clinical started you are doing most of them at high desert hospitals and apu students at these hospitals have a bad reputation for not being efficient with there nursing skills due to the lack of teaching at the school. Also there is another school in this area called Victor valley college that has very strong students so most of the hospitals cater towards these students and apu students get pushed to the side. Emails can also take time to be answered due to the director at this campus having to do lots of jobs to overcompensate for the areas staff is lacking. Lastly I want to add not all the professors were terrible and a few there have a true passion for teaching and are very good at what they do.
