My whole family started training at Tersak's within the last year, starting with my 3 (now 4) year…read moreold son, then my 5 (now 6) year old daughter. Yesterday, a close family friend commented that he has noticed a significant growth in confidence, composure and maturity in my 2 kids since he first met them last summer. We train at least 2 days a week. During each class for every age group, there is a character lesson of the week. Lessons like, how to make a SMART goal, how to be gracious receiving Christmas gifts you already have or don't want, trick or treating safety, what to do if someone bullies you, etc. I love that all of these life skills are immediately applicable. I love that training at Tersak's is more than karate and self defense, it is also leadership and character building. A few months after both kids started training, I joined in. My husband followed 2 months later. Now we do the Open Family class together every Saturday morning (along with tons of other families). I also train in Adult class 1-3 times per week. I am building adult friendships for Me. I am honing my body for Me. My kids can see me as an example of consistency, dedication and doing hard things. And, we spend family time together doing something active and without screens. Two of my favorite "extracurricular" karate events at Tersak's were Family Board Breaking Night and the Spring Tournament. I also really enjoy the festive events like Trunk or Treat and Easter Egg Hunt! The people here are good people. I am so thankful the Abitria family told me to check out this dojo. Here are friends I will be keeping long term!

Some were serious and others were just there being themselves! Students of all ages were there. Male and female... they had different levels so I felt a person wouldn't feel intimidated or embarrassed for lack of skill. Pretty cool experience in my opinion.

After taking the trial classes, we decided to stay at Smiley. The reasons? My kids were happy there and were excited to return because they, "Had fun"- their words. The coaches are hands on and encouraging. There's no pressure for them to compete, which isn't a goal of ours (the parents) or the kids. We want our kids to learn self defense because we feel it's a necessary life skill. The coaches at Smiley respect that and train our kids just the same (unlike other gyms that pushed private lessons and competitions). I like the affirmations Coach Smiley shares at the end of class. In addition to learning self defense, I want my kids to build confidence, resilience, determination, etc... the coaches at Smiley help speak life into the kids while teaching them self defense techniques. Lastly, I like the options they have for kids (8 and up): MMA, Boxing, and Muay Thai! They have BJJ for kids 4 and up I believe. It's nice to have a place they can learn different skills and have the time to do it with their packed schedules. You get your moneys worth! I'm looking forward to seeing my kids grow in skill and confidence at Smiley Academy.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE... the family vibe, the young energy, the camaraderie, the professional…read moreinstruction... it's all amazing! I've taken martial arts since I was 12yo, now closing in on my 65th year of life on Earth and although my wife thinks I'm crazy, I'm still training! Maybe not as hard or as often but as a purple belt, I'm still getting my butt kicked enough to keep me humble! My thoughts... if it were easy... everyone would be doing it. Most of my martial arts experience has been stand up, and it wasn't until I had my introduction to Brazilian Jiujitsu that I realized I had no idea what to do if I fell! What an eye-opener! Anyway, I'm old, I'm slow, often have pains, but I'm there! Beats sitting in front of the TV or computer waiting to die! Come on out and give it a try... men, women, &/or children!! Unequivocally recommended!!!
