Spas typically have a relaxing, inviting, private lounge area (and some with extra included…read morefacilities like a hot tub, sauna, and/or steam room) for guests to enjoy before & after their treatment. This is not that kind of place. It's mostly only called a spa because it offers multiple treatments, but it's not a place to enjoy your day at. The waiting room is small with bright rainbow cushions against dull gray walls, so it feels more like a doctor's waiting room than a spa. The masseuse asked what focus areas I wanted for my $120 remedial massage, but she didn't focus on those spots and it felt more like a Swedish full body massage than anything. I've been fortunate to have several massages every year for the past 11 years, so I feel pretty well versed in the massage experience. When I asked as politely as possible if pressure could be increased, the masseuse paused and was silent for about 3-4 counts, then said she had been doing massages back to back all day so couldn't do it. Awkward. The rest of the massage felt like I was just being touched and going through a process rather than focusing on particular areas I came in for. I wondered several times throughout if I should just ask her to stop and leave, but I didn't want to get confrontational. The receptionist was empathetic and gave me a 20% discount for the unimpressive experience. That was nice and kudos for the effort.

Two words: Highly Addictive…read more If you struggle with addiction don't visit Alkaline Spa. Seriously. Because if you do your habit will not only remain, but will most likely be enhanced. This place is the purest of its kind. Lets start with the staff. Afterall, they are your first point of contact and the reason for my ongoing addiction. They greet you with friendly smiles, their soft and pretty faces singing out sweet "hellos and welcomes" as they encourage you to step into their wonderland of bliss. They lead you into a dimly lit, zen-like waiting room and tempt you with inspirational books and glossy magazines. But before you crack open the first page, they're ready for you...and then the beauty morphosis begins....

I've been here only once and its highly unlikely I will return. I was on the lookout for a…read morereputable beautician/day spa in the Sydney CBD and to tell you truth, I found this place via Google not from any personal recommendations. So I should have known better... I went in for an Ayurvedic facial which starts at $105 for a 60min treatment, so its quite pricey! I was expecting a lot from this facial to tell you the truth ;) The salon itself is actually quite nice, its dark, warm, and the treatment room had a relaxing atmosphere unlike some other places which feel quite clinical. The facial started off well with the typical cleansing, toning and hot towel routine. But then the beautician starting hitting my face. Ok, maybe hitting is not the right word, more like patting...but really hard! It was to the point where I starting flinching. This was not the relaxing facial that I was looking for. So from this one experience I would not return. For $100+ I would have expected much, much more and I didn't get it.

I'm happy to say that I've visited both locations of Ayurve, and the service is great, the place is clean and relaxing and the rates aren't outrageous. I mainly book waxing (facial) and spray tans here, but am considering them for my remaining laser hair removal. The fact that I'd be willing to entrust these guys with a hot laser near my lady parts should speak to their relability. :) Also, no offense to the previous reviewer, but as a thirty-something gal who has been getting facials for a while, sometimes they are supposed to hurt a little. Anyone who has ever suffered through the pain of lengthy extractions can attest to this. Pain is beauty, yo.

Giving 3 stars for issues of communication. There were pros and cons…read more Got the groupon deal for a 60 min couples massage. It was worth the price for the experience - clean space, tea or water given, foot soak and quick foot scrub before the massage, but for the massage itself did not feel enjoyable but repetitive on the same spots? No focus on the hands or feet or butt at all. I woke up the next morning feeling like my back was aching more... They didn't wipe off the excess oil from our bodies so we had to do it ourselves afterwards. My masseuse didn't talk to me, I don't think she knew a lot of English as it was straight forward "turn over" "lie down" requests to me. I did say on the form that my L) ankle needed to be avoided as it was sprained. I had to remind her 3 times throughout the massage each time it was about to get massaged or repositioned. The positive is that the place is cute and clean. They have relaxing background music and I did like the robes and separate area to put your belongings and clothes. Did appreciate that they washed they're hands before and after massaging certain areas e.g from feet to body or feet/legs to scalp. They have a lot of deals going on at the moment. I wouldn't mind trying them again - maybe I just need a different type of masseuse and massage. Toilets are shared with the whole floor on level 7. For parking, good luck because it is the city. If you're very new to the area like we were, don't try to look for signs outside the building as they share the building and floor level with other businesses. You go into 99 York street and have to go in the elevator to level 7 - it's not hard to miss once you're there.

My knots got worked out and I'm feeling much better. Would absolutely recommend. Just a couple suggestions for management: I could hear some of the prep and tea dishes from my treatment room, so a little louder music or moving that further from treatment rooms might help. And the installed shower box for after the scrub was a little worn (while the rest of the shower room was lovely). It could use some bleaching or replacement. Your otherwise pretty parlor deserves a more luxurious shower... and more photos on this page!
