You should ignore the negative reviews: Ive been all over the mountain areas in the United States…read moreand the Colorado Mountain Club is a friendly and very knowledgeable group of generally able people. I learned a lot from the volunteer member leaders and also within the classes. Highly recommended.

After being unexpectedly dismissed from my volunteer instructor role with the Colorado Mountain…read moreClub (CMC), I sought answers. it all happened after my first class of my third year instructing. Our printed "Instructor Packet" directions stated that instructors should "meet with the class at the end of the day to discuss how things went...". They also say "instructors in each group should meet or otherwise jointly devise a lesson plan ahead of time for each instructional day". My Lead Instructor excluded me from the discussion on how things went, probably because he wouldn't allow me to join the car pool with him and the students, and, after I thought we'd settled on a lesson plan, the Lead Instructor changed it without informing me, leaving me confused from the very first minute of the first day. After several years of calling successive School Coordinators, all claiming to know nothing, I received an Email from the CMC's CEO, telling me that multiple students had filed complaints against me, all saying that I had "disrespected" them, and "argued" with them, and they all said I was "put off by other teachers". I immediately requested a short meeting with the CMC's CEO and my Lead Instructor, but BOTH refused! I emailed the School Coordinator, the Lead Instructor, plus several others, asking for any detail that might jog my memory, but I did not get a single response. the anonymous "Student Survey", which each student fills out after the class is over, said nothing negative about any instructor, and I was given an "average" rating by students, even though I only taught one of the three days, and on that one day I laid low since the Lesson Plan had been changed without my knowledge. These negative charges filed against me by multiple students did not match anything in my memory. in my 10+ years in the CMC, leading about 100 trips, I had never received anything other than positive reviews, and I certainly don't recall "arguing" or "disrespecting" even a single student or trip participant. Why hadn't the students, even just one of them, entered this on the anonymous "Student Survey"? Why wasn't I contacted immediately so the CMC could get my input? Why wouldn't they want both sides of the story? Why wouldn't the CEO nor the Lead Instructor meet with me? In any respectable business, when multiple people file complaints, that's cause for a full investigation, including bringing me in for questioning. But, despite the seriousness of the allegations from multiple students, the CEO claimed she had no details. HUH?? I asked my CMC group to investigate, which they readily agreed to do, but after a month I learned that they'd handed the task off to the CMC's customer service representative. He called me and claimed he had done an "OFFICIAL" CMC survey, and that "everybody" said negative things about me. Why he surveyed "everybody" in the CMC I'll never know, since the purpose of my inquiry was case-specific. I asked him to define the term but he just kept repeating "everybody... everybody..." louder and louder. in summary, he didn't give me one single detail, and certainly nothing about me arguing with and disrespecting students. I then requested a rebate on my dues on the grounds that I would have quit the CMC years earlier had i know of these serious and defamatory charges against me. With that, he started screaming at me in a very un-customer-service-rep manner. To date, I have not talked to a single CMC member who admits to being surveyed in the CMC's "Official" report. I couldn't reach my 1st year Lead Instructor, but my 2nd year Lead said I was "a joy to work with". I then wrote to all the students from that day that were in my class, and although not all of them replied, the ones who did reply did not recall observing any disrespectful or argumentative behavior on my part, nor did they recall anyone else in the class mentioning it. Several times I requested a copy of CMC's "Official" report, but I was unsuccessful, despite the fact that it was done at my request, and for the purpose of helping me understand what I did. Am I to believe that multiple students skipped the standard "Student Survey" process, then supposedly called some authority in the CMC to report me, yet the CEO says there is no record? Did the students call as a group, or each separately? And what about the written promise that each Lead Instructor would check in with everyone after the class, to see how things were going? My Lead had been there for many years and surely knew the promises. What are the purposes of the "Student Survey", and the promise of the Lead Instructor checking in with you, if not to help the volunteer instructor know his weaknesses so he can improve? These, to me, represent a commitment from the CMC to keep all volunteers informed. THE BOTTOM LINE: I can come to no other reasonable conclusion than that the CMC purposely fabricated damaging stories about me (Yes- lies, defamation, etc.)

I graduated Golden View 2 years ago. What can I say about this school to sum up my love for it…read more Golden view changed me both as a student and as a person. I learned what it meant to have virtue. The teachers are the best people you will ever meet. Their joy and wonder for life and learning inspires me to this day. However, this school is not for the weak of heart. It takes grit and determination to do well with their classical education. But if you commit, you will learn what it truly means to be human. My love for learning flourished as did my love for the world around me. I will send my kids here one day. And hopefully be apart of the Golden View family forever.

Golden View Classical Academy offers a robust and traditional liberal arts and sciences curriculum, to include literature, history, science, math, art, music, and physical education. In the elementary school, students are taught to read using an explicit phonics program with a focus on grammar and spelling, along with cursive handwriting. Saxon and Singapore math are strategically sequenced to take advantage of the strengths of each program. An early exposure to Latin and Greek roots is followed by a formal Latin sequence in grades 6-9 in order to enhance the student's vocabulary, spelling, and command of the English language. In the upper grades, instruction includes a course in rhetoric, the use of primary source documents, Socratic seminar, and the study of classical literature that has withstood the test of time. Golden View Classical Academy also includes a special focus on Western Civilization, US History, and the principles of America's model of government and free-market economic system.
