We…read morewill be cooking some of our own meals so going to the local grocer's is a fun culinary adventure. It was small yet had all of the essentials. Its aesthetic is like an NYC bodega where things are stacked from floor to ceiling. The employees were very helpful and didn't make fun of my preschool level Italian. There are small bakery, cheese and butcher counters. I encountered this local style of cheese, treccia, and am obsessed. The braiding is beautiful and the flavor is sublime. I do wish they had a fish counter but but I am certain that there are some good fishmongers near by. The quality of the produce was excellent. Unlike things in the U.S. where things look good but have no taste, all of the vegetables I bought had amazing depth of flavor. You do have to weigh and label your own produce which took me a bit of time to figure out. Looking forward to going back later in the week and definitely recommend visiting it if you need to go grocery shopping while visiting Sorrento.

There are several small grocers each with their own fortes. This shop was my favorite though. They stock all the basics and have the friendliest service. It appears to be an older couple that doesn't speak English, and their son (?) in his 20's or early 30's who does speak. Always helpful, offering to hold your things when your arms are full. There's a small gluten free section with pasta, bread, and cookies which is common in Italy even at tiny shops. The eggs on the counter are fresh, the mozzarella delicious, and the tomatoes... wonderful. I highly recommend paying a visit here.

It is the salty version of the land of milk and honey. You'll even find milk, too. And yogurts (originally from greek), butter, pasta (fresh and dried) and probably even honey. I definitly spotted some wine. However the center of attention is the big charcuterie and cheese counter. Think dry-cured ham, salami, ham, sausages, even sausage slices preserved in aromatic oil. I am now sharing my biggest crush: the ricotta!!! It is sooooo good! Exceptional! It is that good, you gonna row your boat from any place to Mergellina harbour, walk barefeet to this shop and buy 1 kg. I am serious. I definitely want to go back as it is Xmas season and I am certain I will find a lot of goodies for my gourmet friends. I also spotted some dishes that are very common to be offered in Naples from the counter such as aubergines with tomato sauce, rapini/friarielli, cooked salssiccia sausage, and so on. As they sell fresh bread, too, maybe they would fix you an extra amazing sandwich with all the things they have to offer. And they do deliver. If you show your enthusiasm for the products that sweet old man behind the counter sure will make some suggestions what you could buy and what he recommends.
