This place is overrated. You would only go because of the history. Their products like the hopia isn't anything special. I have had better hopia elsewhere and cheaper too. A busy place on Sunday. Lots of hopia selection as well as tikoy and other desserts. They also have a second floor for dine in. The line to check out was long. It can take up to half an hour or so. I had lunch today. I ordered Spinach Seafood Soup, chicken mushroom rice, siopao asado and Xiao long bao. I was served with soup. The soup is nowhere the same as it was shown in the picture. I was told the the seafood was chopped but the taste was nowhere near the description of the menu. The chicken mushroom was ok except it was very salty. I suggest you drink tons of water after this food. I ate half of the portion. When the siopao bun was served, I use my for to cut the bun in half. They gave me the wrong order. When the wait staff was ask he declared that I order the bola bola. I ask to see the original receipt and I was told that they would fixed the order and make it right. The Xiao long bao never made it to the table. I got tired of waiting so I had cancelled the order. When I was ready to pay, they still charged me for an order I never received and had to ask the server to have the order removed from the bill. Watch and read your bill. Make sure you are charged the correct amount. It is a nice place but next time I would just order lunch only and not their dim sum product. read more

You aren't a Chinoy if you haven't spent your childhood days craving for Eng Bee Tin's hopia, tikoy, glutinous rice balls, siopao, OMG the list goes on! Hopia is just a plain hopia unless it's stuffed with purple yam. Their ube hopia is the number 1 seller here. The owner's innovation and creativity has since spun other tasty flavors like pandan, mango, red bean, etc. but when you see Eng Bee Tin being sold internationally, it's predominantly the ube flavor that's sold out. Thanks to Ranch 99 and Seafood City in the Bay Area, I can get my hopia fix anytime I want. My dad was in the pulutan business before we moved to the U.S. and Eng Bee Tin was his biggest customer. We've gotten to know the nicest owners ever (hello Rose and Gerry!) and they continue to give back to the community with the donation of a purple (ube colored!) firetruck to the local fire station and are involved with lots of community events in and around Binondo. I love that they are still in the same location when the business first started in 1912! that is an old ass store :0 kidding, they've renovated and expanded due to the tremendous business demand and as a Chinoy, I've never been so proud of these two! This place is all about the food. Whatever temperature it is outside is what it is, inside. I arrived with 5 other people and was seated immediately. I ordered a Sweet Corn Shake of perfect sweetness and consistency. Then came our dishes with staggered timing that worked out fine. The yummy Xiao Long Bao (steamed soupy buns) arrived in a typical bamboo dimsum basket. They were filled with a ground pork mixture with a smooth, tender, and semi translucent skin and came with a vinegar/ginger dipping sauce, which I enjoyed using. The Pork Pata Tim was a juicy, tender pig's leg pressure cooked in a mixture of soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, star anise and other spices then garnished with carrot slices, scallion, and cabbage. My mom used to work in Binondo up until she moved to the States, and one of the things she missed the most was Eng Bee Tin hopia! When I moved back to the Philippines, I remembered my mom's stories growing up and now I understand why she remembers them so fondly. The hopia are extremely affordable (P40-48 for a pack of 4, depending on the flavor), and come encased in a delicious flaky, yet firm, outer crust. It's this Filipino pastry filled with different kinds of things - mung bean, adzuki bean paste, ube (purple yam), even cheese is now being placed inside. Variety is endless but I usually stick with mung bean and ube. I would order a few packs and store them in the freezer to prolong the shelf life. I would then heat it in the toaster oven for a few minutes before I start munching. If ever (if and only if) I leave the country for a long time, I think hopia is one of those things I'll miss about the Philppines. In this tiny shop, you will see hundreds of people passing by and buying the same thing I'm buying. This store has been around for a long time, and I'm sure it's going to live even longer.
