Employees were a no show to a party we booked and paid for two weeks prior to the actual party. No listing of alternate contact numbers besides the store number, which made figuring out this problem even more difficult. Through a coincidence we were able to reach a former employee who linked us up with the manger. Ultimately, he was no help as he said he had no record of the party being scheduled. I had confirmation emails and payment receipts, but still they had to continue to look into it after 40 mins of us already waiting outside a empty, locked store. The day ended with no party, a very sad little boy and irritated parents. I was later able to make contact with the owner and we are working it out. I so badly want to love this place, but can a bad first impression be changed? We will see. TBC... read more

Engineering for Kids is under new management and they are extremely organized and professional. The classes are diverse, with offerings in Scratch programming, robotics, 3D design and Minecraft programming. They offer classes as well as standalone Saturday workshops for those (like us) who don't like to commit to anything long term:-). My 10 year old son has always had a rather difficult time finding activities that are challenging enough and dislikes those that serve as child care rather than being engaging and productive. Too often classes can become disruptive or chaotic and then learning stops. Here he has come home every class beaming with excitement over the new things he has learned and it is obvious the classes are well run and the staff are extremely knowledgable. We are so glad to have given in another chance after the turnover! What a difference. read more

We had a very bad experience at the new Lake Ridge center. I walked in on the instructor screaming at my child for knocking down blocks. He left in tears and I would never subject him to that kind of abuse again. I found out instructors don't necessarily have any engineering or educational experience. They refused to give out a syllabus so parents could see what the children would be learning - said people would just steal their curriculum if they did that. read more

We are happy with the junior engineering class for my 5-year old at the Stafford location. Every day he asks how many more days until the next class. I wish they offered more weekday classes for this age range with some earlier times. A friend was able to sign her child up for a class at a school only to be refunded when they cross referenced a school roster to be sure he attended there (which he did not)-but that was not obvious to her when enrolling him. Of the two instructors for my son's class, one is clearly more comfortable and engaged with the kids. read more

Established in 2009.

Engineering For Kids of Stafford was started in 2009 and in March of 2015 was bought by the current owners and life long educators, Dara Dawson and Sara Butler.

Meet the Business Owner: Dara D. and Sara B.

Dara and Sara have been teachers for over 20 years and bring a great deal of educational knowledge and insight into their growing business. They believe that children should be engaged and invested in what they learn and that discovery is at the hear of learning. Their philosophy of EFK is to set a foundation of skills and understanding and allow children the creative freedom to fulfill their natural curiosity of the world around them. The Engineering Design Process is at the core of how lessons are taught at Engineering For Kids of Stafford. Children should be given the opportunity to design, build, and test their ideas without the stress or pressure of being assessed. In their classes, camps, and workshops, children are taught that engineers often don't get things to work exactly as planned the first time around and that learning is a process, not an linear path with a concrete ending.

Don't waste your money with this school. The instructor just want your money. My daughter called him on Thursday (2/20/20) to see when he is available for testing, he said "this weekend" and now it's 2/26/20 and he didn't even text/ call my daughter about the retake. Very unprofessional and RUDE!!!!! I have tried to call/text him so many time and he refused to answer the phone or return my text. I paid $235 and got nothing with this instructor. When you try to talk to him over the phone, he will talk over you. If I can give this school a zero star, I would. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY& TIME WITH THIS INSTRUCTOR.
