On a summer's day, sit in the lovely gardens and admire the views of Longridge Fell. On a winters day, relax by the log fire and enjoy delicious food and excellent service. Or take afternoon tea in the new Orangery. The lunches are excellent value for money - 2 courses about £15. Try the twice baked cheese souffle served with tomato slices, a drizzle of basil oil and crispy basil leaves. Scrumptious! When in season, the game pie is a real winner. The sauces are always delicious. And the portions are not of tiny 'nouvelle cuisine' or 'fine dining' dimensions. Clean, crisp linen, luxurious loos, good wines, gorgeous coffee. Gibbon Bridge captures the essence of the British countryside. It truly is a hidden treasure to be cherished by those in the know and yelpers of course. Modern technology will eventually mean there is no such thing as a hidden treasure. But hey.... we really are a long way off yet. So why not cherish the tranquility!!! Extremely popular for weddings and understandably so. Nestled in the heart of a Lancashire sits the well kept secret for many that is the Forest of Bowland. This really is an unspoilt delightful spot this, with its rolling pastures, working farmland, natural habitats and dense forestry you could almost be whisked away in your imagination to frodoland. My mother loves all things garden related and as words miserably fail to describe how much I love her, my pet hate has become my pet passion. I think back to my pet hate time and think what the fuss was about. I may not be an avid gardner yet but I am getting there. When you see a location such as this, you really start to appreciate the old lady's passion. Gibbon Bridge has 23 acres of award winning gardens which are overlooked by their restaurant and and if you're lucky enough to be housed in one, some of their bedrooms. On top of that they have a kitchen garden that supplies our chefs with some of the freshest fruit, herbs and vegetables available. Garden of Eden it is not but boy oh boy are they amazing. Without doubt one of the hotel's finest assets. Another one which sneaks under the radar is a bakery, yes a bakery!!! Not many hotels have their own bakeries do they, eh? Well this one does and the stuff is soo good that they supply the hotel and restaurant as well as local business', who all appreciate the inhouse secret recipies. Yummy yummy throw me my baked dummy!! An absolute delight this hotel is. Don't let the fact it is near Preston put you off, if you want to try something different, a romantic week-end away of some sort this is a great location. The most exciting thing is I am sure there are lots more gems like these dotted all around our lovely land just like this one I found. Our dinner was five-stars and the breakfast the next morning was unbelievable. Eggs from next door. Cheese from down the road. Just magnificent. The rooms are small but very well appointed with full ensuite and all brand new. Very comfortable. Quiet, so peaceful at night. And the scenery!!! What views, what beautiful walks. Just amazing. I'm so happy we ventured off the beaten path to find The Plough. And, as ever, the people are everything. And the Plough is very lucky to have such a great team of staff. Can't wait to return!

The trough of bowland or the forest of…read morebowland in Lancashire as its also called, makes a great day out for hikers, dog walkers, families and couples. It is a great untouched peace of the country side with beautiful views. There are a few places where you can stop to park up the car and the roads are great for a country drive. They have many benches and tables scattered about so it is nice to take a picnic and spend the afternoon there. Please remember to take your litter home though if you do.

The trough of bowland is one of, if not the most, beautiful part of Lancashire. It is a MUST for…read moredog walkers, nature enthusiasts or budding photographers. It's a little bit 'out of the way', and will require transport to get to, but once you're there, it's well worth it. I used to go to 'the trough' (as it is affectionately known by our family) most sundays to walk our Old English Sheepdog. I remember spending a lot of time there as I was growing up, making dens and just generally messing around. It's definitely a place to bring the whole family.

On arrival reception had us booked in, and in the room within a few minutes with such a friendly attitude. The room was a wonderful size with a sofa bed, dressing table, plenty of hanging space. Extra bedding if needed. Very comfortable huge bed. TV on the wall. Tea/coffee making facilities. Nice, clean bathroom with some toiletries. Powerful shower, which I love. This hotel doesn't have a 'restaurant' as there is a pub on site but the quaint breakfast room cannot be beaten. Friendly staff who will cook anything special that you may need. Why would you though, everything is there freshly cooked. If ever we are back 'up north' then Premier Inn Chorley North will have us, as visitors, again, Finally, thank you to all the staff for a nice two night stay. See you soon.

A lovely family-owned and run campsite in Barden, near to the Yorkshire town and villages of…read moreSkipton, Grassington and Ilkley which is easy to get to. The site is terraced with hard standing for touring caravans with electrical hook-up and motorhomes whilst tents are happily pitched on the lower grass terraces. There are also static caravans. All units are relatively shielded from wind and rain by trees. There are clean and excellent showering and cleaning facilities with a shop selling fresh eggs, milk,bacon, newspapers and general provisions whilst also providing laundry services. The site is green and refreshing and relatively small with good views and a pleasant atmosphere, being almost hidden from most roads due to clever landscaping - but not once does Howghill lodge look convoluted or fussy and there is no noise from traffic making this the perfect place to get away from it all. Complementary communal fridges near the shop for storing your milk and bacon / chilled items adds a nice little touch and none of mine has ever gone missing! At night time, bats and hooting owls can be heard as you slip off into sleep after a hard days walking/ a few cheeky pints at the local (ish) pub! The site is a stones throw away from Ilkley Moor with a beautiful walk which takes in The Strid, Bolton Abbey, The Valley Of Desolation (sounds like a Radiohead album doesn't it) and Simons Seat, the highest point in Yorkshire I believe, and to the slightly eery Trollers Gill. The walk has everything in it a walker could want, vistas, moors, river-side and waterfalls with maps being available from the campsite I believe and The Cavendish Pavillion cafe at Bolton Abbey. A 15 minute walk away from the campsite to Appletreewick takes you to the The New Inn, an old whitewashed stone walled pub serving local real ales, popular lagers and traditional food. The homemade fish and chips were to die for, with seating outside providing magnificent views on a warm summers night, all at good prices and with a hazy atmosphere as Simons seat overlooks the village. Following the road a 30 minute walk takes you to the Cravens Arms, another beautiful old pub with a reconstructed medieval barn also serving real ales and food before the road takes you to Burnsall. This place is quite magical to me as it reminds me of childhood holidays, and a recent visit cemented my love for the place. Friendly staff and good facilities make this place a great camping site to spend a few days at. Highly recommended as it would provide an ideal spot to tour this part of the dales, its also excellent if you fancy a quick get-away weekend from your 9-5 in leeds.

I think there are 20+ rooms here and the bedroom pleasant, with modern but traditional furnishings. A old-fashioned dial telephone, and bookshelf of authentic old books sat alongside my bose radio. Anyway the views from the outside patio and restaurant are breathtaking, especially at sunset, overlooking the river Hodder and hills of farmland. I think you can fish here for a small fee if staying in the hotel. We ate in the restaurant and the food was great, I had chicken pate, followed by melt in your mouth fillet of beef. There is a wide range of drinks on offer, and the shop Vintners sells plenty of wine, alongside Molton Brown products, which are also used in the rooms. Lovely little place, worth the trek.

The…read morebuilding is very attractive and very clean, conjuring up the feel of an old British inn without even trying. The staff are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The room was very spacious and comfortable, with ours overlooking the cobbled main street down the hill. Our breakfast was excellent, as was all the food. With essentially a gourmet restaurant and a gastropub at the bottom of the stairs, there really was no reason to go elsewhere in the evenings. Seriously, try the 3ft of Cumberland Sausage prepare to head to sausage heaven. Within Haworth, it is perfectly situated. You're a minute's walk away from the Bronte Museum, at the top end of Main Street with its tea rooms and shops and about five minutes walk from the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. If you want to hike on the moors, out to Top Withens and the like, this is a perfect spot. With the free car parking, either on-site or in the nearby Changegate car park (don't forget your permit!), you're also straight onto the main roads out of Haworth. If you're looking for somewhere to stay, this place is fantastic.

They offer free parking which is a huge bonus for this tiny village! The restaurant and food is absolutely delicious! The best food we had in the entire village was here. Breakfast is included and it's again delicious! The view from my window of the countryside was absolutely devine. Though the rooms are small they are very clean, the bathrooms are very clean. My only comments were the kettle in my room was dirty inside so I didn't use it. The toilet paper has no holder so I wasn't sure if I wanted to hold the toilet paper which the previous person was holding. The old fashioned keys require you to lock each time you leave and enter the room. Also there isn't a dedicated space to hold your luggage should you want to visit the town after you check out but luckily we had a car to put our luggage in. Everything else was perfect!
