I made my reservation several months ago when invited to a Wedding nearby…read more Before reserving, I read the web site thoroughly and was pleased with what I read hence my booking. On arrival the alarm bells rang and that was just looking at this place from the outside. I was greeted by the very pleasant John and shown to my room. Although clean enough, the room was in a really bad state of repair and the decor was extremely tired to say the least. When I go away, I expect a decent standard of accomodation and this fell way short. I was really annoyed as I had travelled a long way to get here. The Kirk Lea Guest House website is extremely misleading and there are lots of issues within the room I was due to stay in. The window would not close, there was a burn on the polystyrene light fitting and the floor was very uneven. The furniture was very worn and damaged and nothing matched at all, not an attempt to look "shabby chic" I can promise. There have been some attempts to decorate by the current staff who are well aware of the appearance of the place and were very apologetic when I approached them with my impression of the place. They were helpful and could not have done more to assist me in finding a suitable alternative. This review in no way reflects on John and Val who are lovely people and I wish them well for the future!.

We unexpectedly found they had a "beat the…read moreclock" promotion on food - you pay the time of your order e.g order at 6pm and pay £6 for your meal. There were 6 main dishes to choose from: sausages and mash, steak and ale pie, a seafood salad, fish and chips with just peas, pulled pork in a bun, and I forget the other, I think it was vegetarian friendly pasta. I expected the servings to be smaller than usual but fair play to the kitchen, the pie and the sausages were full sized and really very very good for £6 each. We got desserts. The chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream was heavenly. They have a children's menu, with a carbonara, plus others. The menu is 3 courses for £8.95. Our youngest enjoyed his Passat very much. We were very happy all round.

We had several of our meals here, dinner and breakfast, and were never disappointed. Their Ploughman's board was one of my favorite bites here--I'm still dreaming about that yellow/blue cheese which is apparently a local find. They also serve a local cider -- scrumpy style -- which is my fav. They get quite crowded on the weekends so if you're coming for dinner, reserve a table! The staff are super friendly as well as the manager. Also: the Waddie Arms will also sell you bottles of wine off their list should you need to BYOB for another event and you don't have time to drive over to Clitheroe and find a wine shop. If I find my way back up to Waddington on future UK visits, you can surely find me here. It's a local favorite for a reason!

When you've hiked and tromped through the hills and fields of Malham, there is no better reward…read morethan grabbing a bite and a brew from the Lister Arms. Originally built in 1723 as a 4 bedroom house, this pub/ bed & breakfast is a the perfect place to get a 'little more than your average' pub fare after a jaunt through the Yorkshire Dales. I was there this past March and enjoyed the rustic atmosphere, the vast beer selection (including Thwaites and Wainright) and some perfectly prepared steak and kidney pie. The staff is pleasant and the service was good. This is one of the few places in the village to get a beer and a bite... and if you're lucky enough to get here in the spring or summer and walk the hills, it's likely that while your dining at The Lister Arms that the families of ducks outside the window will keep you entertained. They certainly kept my attention.

Of the two pub choices in Malham The Lister Arms is by far the most stylish - a lovely old building…read morewhich has been updated so that it retains much of its original charm. There are three "rooms" in the pub area and a separate dedicated restaurant area. We had taken the precaution of booking a table for two in the restaurant area at 8pm on Wednesday evening which was wise as it was a busy evening. We were given a friendly but somewhat harassed greeting by one of the young waiting staff. After a long day walking we were hungry so we made our choices quickly from the well priced, for Malham, and good looking menu which was made up in the main of "pub classics" Sensing that things might be going slight off the rails in the kitchen we ordered a cold starter of smoked salmon in the hope that this might be served relatively quickly while I had the sirloin steak for my main and B went for the gammon with bubble and squeak. I won't drag this sorry tale out but our starter never did arrive, we were offered two sets of dishes destined for other tables and our main courses took over an hour to arrive. When we finally did get to eat our supper it was tasty and well presented (possibly helped by the fact that we had drunk a bottle of wine while waiting). When the guy behind the bar asked if we had enjoyed the meal I mentioned the problems with service: he shrugged and said it was a busy night in the kitchen due to a large number of "walk in" diners. In my naïveté I thought that a booking system was designed to avoid such difficulties and indicate when the kitchen was at capacity point - not at The Lister Arms unfortunately.
