I attended C2 Education in Germantown for several years and had a very disappointing experience. I attended for their PSAT, SAT, and college essay help, and unfortunately did not get much out of it, and I feel bad for my parents who wasted thousands of dollars. The only good thing I have to say is that majority of the tutors themselves are very kind and are aware of C2's broken system. However, the center's manager, Angela Kim, profits off of deceiving parents and shoving $20,000 non-refundable contracts in their faces. She also claims to be a "certified college counselor" when she is just a salesperson and gives bad college advice. C2's business model is based on manipulation and guilt tripping parents and students to buy hundreds of tutoring hours and spend 6 hours a day at C2 for an unreasonably high price. They give middle schoolers SATs and when they score low relative to an 11th grader (simply because they haven't learned the concepts in school), they show this to naive parents as a justification of calling their child stupid and in desperate need of their tutoring services. When students or parents are on the fence about buying so many hours during their post-diagnostic test sales pitch, they say stuff like "well if you actually wanted to work hard and be a good student you would come here and study" which is incredibly manipulative. They also call students "severely behind in math" for taking calculus their senior year of high school instead of freshman, sophomore, or junior year, which is absolutely untrue. They will downright try to tell you that your child will be unsuccessful without their tutoring services. They also will lie about your results on diagnostic tests. I took a diagnostic SAT at C2 and scored over 100 points lower than when I had just taken the real SAT recently. When I reviewed it later with the tutor, I noticed they had marked almost every answer wrong for the writing section. This was very confusing for me because I usually score near perfect on SAT writing. When I checked the answer key, I was very confident I had actually marked all the right answers. When I requested to see my bubble sheet they claimed to have discarded it. I conclude that they either had a broken scanner or did this on purpose because if diagnostic scores were too high they couldn't convince parents to sign up for their services. Attending C2 also did not help my SAT score at all, and I continuously scored the same over months despite regularly going there. However, as soon as I quit and switched to free online resources and $20 Amazon books I was able to get a 1500+ score with ~800 on math with no problem. The C2 test prep books and diagnostic tests are nothing like the real tests, and every student and tutor knows it. The management claims "exact questions" from the C2 tests show up on the real test but that is not true at all. Regarding college essays, I had a very mixed experience. One tutor gave me good feedback and was careful not to change the main points and my personal voice from the essays. However, another one demanded full editing access to my original personal essay document and went ahead and deleted half of it without my consent simply because he couldn't relate to it. He also openly ridiculed my essay and mocked the experiences that I had talked about in it. Overall I would not have come here for essays either and got significantly better feedback from an English teacher at my school for all my essays. I urge you to send your child to a more affordable tutoring place or a private tutor that genuinely wants your child to grow and succeed, rather than here where they are trying to unethically fool you into spending more money (which actually all goes to corporate instead of the tutors). I promise you will get quicker and better results, your bank account will thank you, and your child will develop a passion for learning instead a dread for it.

(Montgomery College Rockville Part 1 of 2) 10/16/19…read more Montgomery College in Rockville Maryland. My old stomping ground and where I found a major I really liked. A major I never aquire, because I got burned out. I tried two different to continue my education ang graduate from college, but I guess as of now...2019...its not likely to happen. Let's take a step back and I will tell you what happened with me over the years at Montgomery College. In 1996-1997 I was attending Marshall University. Yeah, the same University where the movie We Are Marshall was filmed. I had come to Montgomery College to repair my grade point average. At Marshall the College life had gotten good, but I wasn't prefirming well in all of my classes. History is just one example. The teacher...no...professor, had her whole class sign in using one's social security number as way of attendance. I put my name down instead of my social security number. What the hell kind of system is that? Off topic for a moment. I once applied to work at a Fed Ex in Rockville. It was a group interview and at the end of the group interview they had people put their social security number down on paper. The paper was passed all the way down to me. I put my name down and passed it on. A few others followed my lead. Needless to say, we weren't hired, had a list of social security numbers in my head,....but I digress. I saw every student get 20 to 30 pages of reading every night. If you fell behind you were shit out of luck. The game of catch up was a very popular game in her class. I did what I could, but failed and ended up dropping her class. I ended up dropping a four hour algebra class that met twice a week too. Needless to say, I need my GPA at a higher level and once I enrolled in Montgomery College, I kicked some major ass. I had a new game plan and I liked the size of these college. The campus was pretty much all in one place without having to travel long distances to get to classes. Upon regestiering, I saw the line seemed pretty long, but it moved fairly quickly. It was then I notice a sign with a picture on the wall. The sign said "And you think you have it bad." The picture showed lines of students out of the building going all the way towards the security office and beyond. Now adays there should be a line since online enrollment is the new way to do things. Paying for books was expensive and the return of unwanted books was highway robbery. This is the way colleges are and this is not going to change. Now if you didn't know, there are three Montgomery Colleges. In no particular order, Rockville Montgomery College, Germantown and Takoma/Silver Spring campuses. Since I now lived in the Rockville area, I sometimes walked, drove or took the bus depending on my mood. This is a day/night campus, but you didn't live on campus like other colleges do. During the Spring semester of 97, I took several classes to help get my grade point average up. By the end of it all, there I got ready to take a test where if you don't pass, you don't pass the class. I believe they called it the competency exam. I had A's in the class, but failed the test. I appealed their fail grade, but lost. I was bummed out, but knew I could pass on the next try. I was taking classes that were beyond the normal, but it helped me out a great deal later on. Yeah, once I got over taking English 001 and 002 I learned a great deal and more importantly, had fun. Between classes after finishing homework, I stumbled upon an arcade inside the Student Center. I don't know if the students center still has this arcade and pool, but it was a way to unwind. I believe there was a small copy center there too...I may be have been something else though. I noticed the last time I was in Maryland, Montgomery College has been broadcasting the school's mascot. A large Raven and the Color of Montgomery seems to be my favorite color purple. When I went to this school, I never saw much of the mascot or the new colored clothing. Guess not enough merchandise is being sold and Montgomery College is trying to change that with better clothes. I will check this out for myself next week. This is one of three Montgomery College campuses and is the one I've personally spent the most time taking classes over my tenure, which has been far from linear. There is parking that surrounds the circular campus, mostly lots, but there is a garage as well. The facilities are fairly nice and it's my preferred campus with Germantown taking a close second. There are busses that run through the campus all day and into the evening.

However, I just have to give a warning for those of you out there who are HEALTHCARE professionals looking for a renewal class. DO NOT take this class at this school, especially with the instructor Cathy!! I am sure outside of class that Cathy is a nice enough lady, but she was the worst instructor I had ever had and I have been taking CPR for HC professionals for years in various locations. Her teaching style leaves a lot to be desired as she uses public humiliation to get her point across. Case in point, she makes every participant demonstrate in front of everyone until she is satisfied with your technique. And if you can't get it right, she will chastise you in front of your peers. Furthermore, her class is INCREDIBLY too long - we began at 830am sharp and I did not leave her class until after 130pm...and I was one of the first to be done with my written skills test. I am just sorry for those who took longer to complete the test! Adding to the incredibly long class, she took 45 minutes in the beginning of class for housekeeping....."signature here, signature there, wash your hands, let us all introduce us to each other, blah...blah" The class room is also in a very claustrophobic location, the ceiling was so low that I could touch it (I'm 5'4") and it has no windows. We also had no breaks aside from one 5 minute break for water and granola bars - which she provided, which was nice of her. But to top it off, she did not have us watch the usual video from the American Heart Association as she claimed the "machine was broken." When one of my fellow students offered up his laptop to show the DVD, she refused. I think she just wanted to hear herself drone on and on. This class took up almost my entire Saturday and went at a snail's pace for all of us who have taken the class before (i.e. renewers). I can't recommend this class as it was not a good example of a AHA sponsored class that usually takes 3 hours, tops! Avoid if possible.

I would recommend taking at least one class at JASW if you're looking around the area for Japanese…read morelanguage classes. The class will depend greatly on the teacher and the students in the class. Since this is not a class for credit, the class is more informal and goes at the pace of the students. Classes are in English and mostly go over the previous day's workbook and then the grammar for that week. There aren't any tests and there isn't really any kanji or vocabulary drilling (there is a separate Kanji class I think). After the semester, Sensei will give out a survey/comment form. I asked her to conduct class in Japanese and to do listening comprehension and she actually did those things next semester. Then I had another teacher that would just go off on tangents and not talk about anything in the book, instead focusing on topics the students seemed interested in on that day. There are some students that take the class seriously, and some that don't care at all and don't prepare/come/come late. The worst are those that try to argue with the teacher, but those types of students will always exist. Since there is no testing requirement for the class, anyone can place themselves in any class they see fit which is the cause of the lack of consistency in classes. JASW is a good place to start if you don't want the pressure of a traditional classroom and the classes are *very* affordable, especially if you're a JASW member (hence the 4 stars instead of 3 stars). Don't expect to learn too much unless you challenge yourself outside of class since there are no metrics or tests to evaluate progress. It's also located in a very convenient area (bonus!)

The class numbers were small, 5-6 people, and most of the people taking it with me had lived in Japan for a year or more. I thought that the course material was challenging, but it is up to you to put time into it in order to learn, as there aren't tests or vocab/grammar drills. All of the teachers I've had assigned homework, were available by email outside of class, and seemed competent. Yeah, there are a few people who didn't show up or do homework, but I don't think they really interrupted the flow of the class too much.
