Enniskillen General Store hosted the Butter Tart Festival back in early July. I had never been to this festival and decided to take the drive over to Enniskillen. The festival is right next door to the general store. I had a fantastic time picking up shortbread, sugar cookies, and butter tarts. Some of my highlights from the festival include the following - Vegan chocolate chip shortbread by Eat By Shortbread (accepts credit cards) - Cute starfish and cloud sugar cookies by Brianna's Sweet Treats - Raspberry coconut butter tarts sold at Enniskillen General Store The raspberry coconut butter tarts are amazing! If you are a coconut fan who loves a yummy raspberry filling that has the right balance of tartness and sweetness, this tart is for you. It is incredibly delicious and fresh. I was devastated when I couldn't remember the business that makes these tarts. I contacted Enniskillen General Store on Facebook and got a quick response. The store sell these tarts year-round. Yay! I went into the store and it sells Kawartha ice cream, which is my favourite ice cream ever. I didn't get any, but I will next time I am there, along with stocking up on more butter tarts. It's a wonderful area. It did get busy during the Butter Tart Festival. I parked on the side of the road and got my exercise walking over to butter tart heaven. This place has been around FOREVER. The perfect place to stop on the way out east. They've always had Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream and they make the BIGGEST cones EVER! It's almost a meal in itself. The prices are absolutely worth it for how much ice cream you get. The service is always great. They have an enthusiastic crew there! The store also has an array of baked goods, drinks and snacks. You've gotta stop there! I wish I lived closer! read more

Excellent ice cream You get a small (baby) for $3.50 which is a large anywhere else for double the price. If your going east towards Oshawa it's a few minutes east of where the 407 ends now. It will be worth your while. It's a General store so it has a little bit of everything but I think the ice cream is the biggest hit. read more

We had ice cream in the middle of winter, outside in the cold, just as the Russians do. I must say it was the best tasting ice cream I have ever had. I tried the key lime pie and blueberry flavours in a small cup. The servings was generous and the service was great. I think it was worth the trip. We will definitely visit in the summer. read more

Great place for ice cream and novelty items. I like that you can also get candies, chocolates and even soft drinks that you can't find any where else. Staff is always friendly and they give giant scoops of ice cream. So many choices of ice cream as well I love Kawartha Dairy ice cream. read more

HIDDEN GEM MUCH? My friend works in Enniskillen sometimes and raved about "the greatest ice cream shop ever" and we finally had some time to try it. It seems we came at a good time (9PM) because I'm told they have really long lines sometimes. There are places to sit inside and outside the store. The store is very... Comfortable. The vibes are good, the staff is friendly, and the ice cream!!!!! There are four coolers of varieties that range from standard cookies n cream to flavours like Irish cream and raspberry lemon-lime sherbet. Ice cream comes in cones or cups in a variety of sizes: teenie ($2.99), baby, big baby ($4.99), and challenge ($8.99 - you are inducted upon a wall of fame). Make no mistake - these sizes are all formidable despite their affordable prices. The teenie is maybe 2 scoops of one flavour, the baby is about 4 scoops of one flavour, the big baby is two babies, and the challenge is about 8 babies. We all came in overconfident and, despite the warnings and arched eyebrows of our helpful scooper, ordered one big baby each... One of us finished. Quantity is there but! Make no mistake - the quality is there as well. The ice cream is delicious and is rich in flavour (fruity flavour taste fresh, chocolates are sweet and flavourful, etc.) I will be coming here again and again and again and again... I think you'd be hard pressed to find a place for ice cream as phenomenal as this one. read more

I got a baby ice cream, which is their smallest option. So much ice cream for the price of one scoop at the other retailers. You literally get 3-4 times as much. Last time I couldnt finish so I popped in the freezer and had the rest the bext day. They've got dozens of flavours to choose from. It's also sweet that this place has been a local fave for years and I can see why! read more

My wife suggested going to this store for ice cream and I must say that I will never go back. The staff sat behind the counter talking to each other ignoring us and when I asked a question the lady was demeaning and condescending. If these millennials can't do the job right without a sense of intolerance and entitlement then I have no time to spend my money there. read more

Really nice and helpful staff who are patient dealing with indecisiveness, even though it's a fast paced evironment! My kids had so much fun with not only the cute names of the ice cream but also the amount you get. Definitely a fun trip to make. We had a lot of fun with the drive over alone, very nice location. Total disappointment from a small community store. Rude beyond words. Reading the other reviews and details makes me think they are staged as they read like an advertisement not a real testimonial. The general public is not that ignorant as to not see that. Is impossible to believe anyone is lining up to deal with the arrogance and sadly I was dealing direct with the owner. Keep driving past this one....there are a lot of small business owners in this area that treat people with respect. Just moved here 3 months ago and this is now on my AVOID LIST. read more
