When I arrived the chairs had been stacked, likely for cleaning duties. I picked up a coffee and a tahini maple brownie to go. When I had each of these the following day, recognizing the time lapse may interfer with the quality and therefore my experience, both were delicious. At first I wasn't all too impressed with the brownie. I didnt get any hint of tahini and the sweetness was a lot. I heated up the coffee and was prepared to have it black, an unusual occurrence, yet sipping at it to make room in my mug for my oat milk, it had a very mild flavour. It wasn't acidic, which some coffees with notes of citrus tend to create. It was smooth, made all the more better with a peice of the brownie in my mouth at the same time. Mind blown and magickal. So at first, not impressed with the brownie, yet having it in a new way, wow! Definitely a pairing for the win! Loved the ambiance, they had a cozy lil table and chairs in the window, surrounded by plants that made it look and feel like aspace in your living room. Also a hexagonal shelf with even more plants next to the bar, on way to the washroom. The art on the walls, amaze-balls! Really, quite beautiful. Lovely the owner is supportive of local talent. They have a shop attached, with second hand finds and teasures. I took a peak, yet didnt stay long. Its nifty and a concept that would be a first for me. The best part is the little park across..and sometimes they block the street and have picnic tables. There are not a lot of ice cream places with seating outside in the Whitby/Oshawa area (which is strange) so having the park is a nice option. Parking lot beside requires payment..even in the evenings. Pay the buck for the hour because they will ticket you.

The festival is right next door to the general store. I had a fantastic time picking up shortbread, sugar cookies, and butter tarts. Some of my highlights from the festival include the following - Vegan chocolate chip shortbread by Eat By Shortbread (accepts credit cards) - Cute starfish and cloud sugar cookies by Brianna's Sweet Treats - Raspberry coconut butter tarts sold at Enniskillen General Store The raspberry coconut butter tarts are amazing! If you are a coconut fan who loves a yummy raspberry filling that has the right balance of tartness and sweetness, this tart is for you. It is incredibly delicious and fresh. I was devastated when I couldn't remember the business that makes these tarts. I contacted Enniskillen General Store on Facebook and got a quick response. The store sell these tarts year-round. Yay! I went into the store and it sells Kawartha ice cream, which is my favourite ice cream ever. I didn't get any, but I will next time I am there, along with stocking up on more butter tarts. It's a wonderful area. It did get busy during the Butter Tart Festival. I parked on the side of the road and got my exercise walking over to butter tart heaven. I highly recommend going to this festival. Yes, there are lots of butter tarts and other delicious goodies waiting for you. (174)

I made a stop in Peterborough on my way home from Montreal a few weeks ago. I had dinner with a…read moredear friend at The Food Forrest. We like to have dessert and chat some more somewhere else. It is becoming a ritual. She suggested going to Silver Bean Cafe, which is next to Millenium Park. I was game. She said either we could walk over there or drive. I went with the latter, as it was a hot day. I drove us in my rental car over to the cafe. Parking is limited steps away from the cafe. I backed into a spot and we walked over. Thankfully, it wasn't all that busy on a Thursday evening. The way ordering goes is that you go into the cafe to place your order. You then sit outside on the patio with an animal marker and your order come to you. Yay! My friend got a vegan chocolate walnut cookie and an iced coffee. I got a large strawberry lemonade. I saw the person at the counter give a penguin marker to place on his table. I would have loved that one! Instead, we got a dinosaur marker, which made both of us smile. We frankly had way too much fun playing with it on the patio while we waited for our order. A nice man came over several minutes later with our order. The vegan chocolate walnut cookie was massive! I got to have some of it. It was delicious and chocolaty. I am pleased that there are vegan options at this cafe. My large strawberry lemonade was gigantic. It tasted so good. It wasn't insanely sweet. It was perfect, with the sweet strawberry taste meshing nicely with the tart lemon. I loved it. The patio is lovely. We spent a good couple of hours chatting away. You get a lovely view of the Otonabee River in the heart of downtown Peterborough. It's beautiful and the breeze was much needed! I would come back here for more desserts and sips. They make their coffee with Balzac beans and while I love Balzac's, I found the latte underwhelming and expensive. It was just not pulled properly. The smoothie was pretty good. It has a nice vibe and is small and cozy, suitable for a quick bite but I would say not for large groups to gather or for one to stay and study there. They also have a few baked goods like cookies but no sandwiches or hearty items when I went. Wished they had more to eat. Might visit again and try their frozen yogurt.
