I finally made it to Ca' de' Ven, a beloved restaurant in Ravenna, after hearing about it for so many years. This beautiful establishment, with frescoes adorning the ceiling, is located in the heart of Ravenna's historical city center and just steps away from Dante's Tomb/Basilica di San Francesco. It features traditional Emilia-Romagna cuisine and a warm, familial atmosphere throughout -- there's also a huge wine selection with tons of bottles along the walls of the restaurant. Our group ordered traditional specialties of the region to share, including the piadina (flatbread), affettati (cold-cut meats), squacquerone (so creamy and decadent!), caramelized figs, and Sangiovese wine -- everything was delicious, and the warm piadina paired so well with the meats, cheese, and figs. For my main dish, I ordered the tagliata di manzo, which was cooked and seasoned very well -- the beef was so juicy! Ending the meal with some refreshing mandarin sorbetto and an espresso was the perfect conclusion to a fun evening with friends. Looking forward to the next time I can come back here!

This is a large, bustling restaurant and bar in a great location in Ravenna, in the historic center. Menu offered a variety of intriguing options including seasonal specials and dishes that made it clear we were in Emilia Romagna. Since there were three of us we were able to sample a variety of dishes and all were very good to exceptional. To start I had the radicchio salad with crispy bacon, companions had the soft cheese budino with crispy parma ham in wine cream, and the parma ham and parmesan cheese salad. Both the salads were so huge (and wonderfully fresh tasting) they could have been a "light" lunch all on their own! The budino was beautiful and tasty as well. It was hard not to keep munching on the warm piadina bread served to the table as well, but we had to save room for our mains. I absolutely adore venison and can't resist ordering it when I see it on a menu. Here they had it in a stew with polenta. Delicious, much like the way I prepare it at home slow-cooked in wine with fresh herbs like rosemary. One companion, after a week of heavy pasta and rice dishes felt drawn to the grilled chicken. As simple as that sounds, it was terrific. I'd love a place back home that made such a flavorful grilled chicken dish. Third main course was the winner of the day, though - the risotto with sausage and radicchio. Perfectly cooked risotto (according to my native Italian dining companion) and rich with autumn flavors. Needless to say, no room was left for dessert. I would definitely come back here and recommend this restaurant as a great place to sample some of the cuisine of this region of Italy. It's not an intimate or romantic choice, but good for a group, especially if you want to sample a variety of dishes.

This is a beautiful place to have a meal in Ravenna. Really special, BUT... Super touristy, if I'm honest. They have all the basic local items on the menu, and while good... Mostly unremarkable. But if you ARE a tourist, you'll think it's an incredibly pretty restaurant and you'll enjoy a fine meal of pasta con ragu or whatever you decide to order. If you're a diehard foodie, try somewhere else.

We decided to eat at Ca' de Ven for lunch and had the following: - Prosciutto di Parma with Granda and Balsmic vinegar in a salad - Grilled Vegetables - Mushrooms, tomatoes, zucchini, endive, eggplant / Verdure grigliate e crudo - Grilled Octopus with Fava bean puree / Polipo grigliato - Cappelleti with Ragu / Cappelletti al ragu This restaurant has a beautiful and rustic charm just like the city of Ravenna. The food was fabulous. Ravenna was a quieter town than most any of the cities that we visited in Italy and the experience was most memorable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and was very impressed with the interior. This was our first visit to Ravenna and thankful we found this restaurant. It is a local hangout before noon in bar area and shortly thereafter while we were there. We enjoyed a glass of wine prior to being seated. We started with the Rosemary Piadina bread, absolutely delicious (must try - special to this region)! We did have to flag down our waiter a few times; however, very helpful and courteous! My husband had the Taleggio pasta with meat sauce while I enjoyed the fresh caught clams in a pepper, parsley broth - yes, I just wanted to drink the broth! Tip: if we could have done one thing differently we wished we would have ordered the charcuterie as we watched from our table the locals ordering, wow looked incredible!

Touristy (busloads of tourists are dropped here), loud, OKish food. No options for vegetarians. Not ONE.

This wonderful restaurant just steps from the piazza del poppolo is a quiet refined space perfect for a great meal. The interior is housed in an old hat shop where those cabinets now display the wines and provide a very nice backdrop. There is soft piano music playing and the tables are large enough to provide plenty of room for your dishes nor are they packed in. The service is friendly, crisp and professional. The wine list has something for everyone. The bread basket is home made and it shows. We were each given a complementary vegetarian meatball which was very good,We ordered the tortellini with a an aged Parmesan sauce. This is an excellent version of this dish. The tortellini were obviously hand made, cooked perfectly al dente and the flavor worked beautifully with the Parmesan. The veal was perfectly cooked, crispy with the right amount of ham and a nice sauce that fished off the dish. The potatoes were also perfectly cooked and flavored with some rosemary. We tried the tiramisu for dessert. A tiramisu that has been tweaked with a bit more mascarpone and amazing chocolate shavings. Proving a perfect dish can be improved Overall just an excellent experience at a place that hits all the right notes.
