We told them that we were in a rush to get to the top of the hill before the sunset and I asked the owner to select a wine for us. He picked the most amazing white wine, opened the bottle for us and put plastic cups in a bag and sent us on our way. He was so accommodating. And the price of the wine was excellent. If you ever go to Rome it's worth a trip to this wine shop to stock up on amazing and reasonably priced wine.

And occasionally green and orange?) * * * I am a great person to judge a hard spirits store. I know and love my gin. Italy makes amazing gins. Many enotecas in Rome give gin negligible attention. (Grappa however gets a lot of love everywhere. I love me a good grappa.) Since however weight considerations and U.S. customs rules being what they are, Only two bottles were going back to the States. I went for Italian gin. Once you are committed firmly to a gin plan, The stock of Enoteca Bernabei goes way way up. Bernabei has one of the best stocks of gin in the city. On line, they carry 75 different gins. In the store, they have about 35. Half of those are Italian. 18 different Italian gins are a marvelous choice. (At most other stores, I would be lucky to get 4.) I went with one known commodity and one shot in the dark with an intriguing looking label. Torino's Gin Del Professore comes in four versions. None of these are London Gins. They are all heavily herbal botanicals. I adore the Monsieur form. I was sorely tempted to try one of the other members of the Del Professore family. However, it was hard to say no to the herbal description on the Villa Ascenti gin, also from the Piedmont. I left the store a happy guy. * * * There are all sorts of complaints about Enoteca Bernabei on Yelp from people who tried to buy wine from them over the Internet. I don't buy wine over the internet - so I can not comment on that aspect of their business. But if you go to their physical store, you are in heaven. When in Rome, Shop like the Romans. When not in Rome, Caveat Emptor.
