The attendant behind the counter was an older gentleman but he mumbled and with a thick Irish accent he was very hard to understand, especially getting off of a 10 hour flight. He mumbled something and gave us the car as to get us out of there super fast. Now we know why. He gave us a plug in hybrid; which has to be plugged in for it to charge and use otherwise you are just running on fuel. Yes the vehicle trickle charges the batteries but not enough to use the hybrid feature. Our trip was planned to drive all the way around the country. We did and the price of fuel alone was crazy. I called the rental company and told them that someone had taken out the charging cable and that I was not able to charge the vehicle. The so called customer service started arguing with me trying to tell me that the vehicle is a hybrid and that it charges on its own. I am from the crazy state where these cars are made. I know the difference between a full electric, to a hybrid to a plug in hybrid to the gas. She continued to argue the point. So that is their tactic, is to argue with the customer while they are on an expensive vacation, so that they hang up. That is exactly what happen, she was no help on confrontational. She should not be in customer service .....or maybe that is exactly why she is there. During the whole trip I tried to call and get someone who knows anything about cars but NOPE! The customer reps I spoke with were the same as the first one. I'm pretty sure the put them in those positions on purpose. There is no way to get a hold of corporate when you are in another country. I called when we got home and sent email because Hertz will not call you back. Their emails are sent out by the same people they have as customer service reps. ONCE THEY HAVE YOUR MONEY, THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO. BEWARE WHEN RENTING FROM HERTZ. BECAUSE THE FINAL BILL HERTZ THE WALLET! I WON'T EVER RENT FROM hurtz ever again, if you heed my warning just as the many others have written, you will go to another rental company!

We rented a GPS through Hertz that was broken-- it would randomly shut down at major intersections, rebooting to a screen that said "Hertz: Never Lost." (Haha- see attached pic) After a few times of this happening, we decided to navigate by physical maps and WiFi service (when we had it), figuring it was fun to explore the old fashioned way. When we returned the car, we pointed out the broken GPS and asked for a refund. We were told to email customer service, which we did, along with pictures of the GPS shutting down while driving. A month later, Hertz customer service emailed us back saying that the unit was not actually faulty (?) and we should have told them about it while we were on the road (we were never near a city, so it would not have been possible to switch out the units on our drive anyway). They did not give us a refund, and borderline called me a liar about the whole deal-- which is way more annoying than having to pay for a broken GPS! Go with another car rental at the Dublin airport. Hertz's equipment and their customer service are broken. The guy at the Hertz desk at the airport when we first got our car was super nice though! That's why 2 Stars- 1 extra for him.

This is…read moreespecially true for our family, as we are all lingerers with vastly different interests and needs, and the tight schedule of a tour company just doesn't work well for us. On our recent trip to the Emerald Isle, we learned a few things about how to do a rent stress-free car rental, and I wanted to share them below. 1. BEFORE YOU RENT: Insurance rules in Ireland are quite complex and onerous, so it is best to rent an inexpensive car from an inexpensive local firm (like Sixt) and insure it in every way possible, versus get a more expensive car and skimp on insurance, or depend on your credit card to cover you. Our rental was less than 70€ a day (for an automatic four door five-seater hatchback with adequate trunk space) and after insurance, it was about 130€ a day. American rental car agencies were charging about 120€ (before insurance) so I paid only a few € extra for peace of mind! 2. ONCE YOU ARRIVE: Carefully listen to the advice the rental car agent gives you, get a physical map, and make sure you have their emergency contact info. Read the contract carefully, and ask questions shamelessly till you're satisfied. They expect it. Buy more insurance if you've forgotten anything or in case not everything is available online. 3. BEFORE YOU DRIVE AWAY: Always take a picture of any scratches, dents and other damage before you drive the rental car off the parking lot; then compare it to the damage already described on the contract. 4. DRIVING AND PARKING: I had reviewed the "driving in Ireland" tips inside the car rental facility. These were a very good reminder; though I was taught to drive on the left side, I was a bit out of practice. Have your co-passengers help you if you're drifting or making mistakes, especially in the urban areas (country driving in Ireland is a pleasure)! Park away from other cars - less chance of dings that way, and don't leave any valuables in plain sight. 5. WHEN YOU RETURN: Fill up the tank as close to the facility as possible. The Sixt car rental facility in Dun Laoghaire is conveniently located right next to a petrol station. Also take a picture of the car after you return it to the parking lot. While they have a drop box, get there after opening hours and give the keys to a person, and note their name. If you do these things, you should ge able to have a fun and enjoyable driving holiday in Ireland. Sláinte!

I then stated that I had made the booking through MasterCard. The price for over a week was about $ 360. Reasonable. I got to the office and the girl was very helpful and the car was ready. When the manager came out to finalize the booking that is where the chaos began. He tried to charge my credit card $5800 as a hold for insurance. He stated it was a "hold" only but it came through as a $5800 transaction. Of course the credit card company declined the transaction whereupon I told him to keep his car. I wasted 35 minutes of my time and have no car for my vacation. Absolute "scam". Car rental in Ireland in general is fraught with insurance issues and this is not the only company in Ireland I have had problems with. The manager was about as helpful as an STI and I wouldn't recommend using this company. The reviews here say it all. Caveat emptor.

Their cars are rented out in a dimly lit parking structure, but when you return the car, it's in an open air car park. When we returned the car, the person checking us in did a very cursory look at the car, but then honed in on small 'nick' in the tire (tyre over there), as if he knew what he was looking for. I inspected the car before leaving the airport parking structure, but without getting down to the ground with a flashlight, there's no way I would have seen it. I'm positive that we didn't cause this tire damage since we were on smooth paved roads the entire time of our 4 day rental. I didn't have a choice but to sign off on the forms at the time because we needed to get to our flight. This is a scam! Subsequent web searching (on Yelp and on Trip Advisor) brought up similar issues reported by other renters, specifically with the Enterprise Dublin airport agency. If you must rent from this company, then it behooves you to take pictures of absolutely everything and make sure Enterprise accepts these picture before you drive away. Yes, a lot of extra work, especially when you want to get on with your travel, but could save you $ later. Have a look closer the the Yelp reviews which detail similar issues. Last time we rented in Ireland with Hertz got a tin can of a car, never again. Dooley's gave us a nearly new Ford, 4 doors with manual transmission. From noon Monday through 8am Saturday was about $260 (plus petrol, returned with full tank). We could have used credit card coverage for insurance, but the price was reasonable enough. We booked online before our trip. Irish car hire companies have been know for sleazy sales tactics but seems like they have cleaned up their act. I would rent from Dooley's again. I would award a 5th star if they did not charge for spouse as additional driver. That would differentiate them from the other Irish car hire companies, and would be good for business.

When we were on holiday in Dublin, we took a walk to take in the sights, but my main objective was to find the car park because it was a different type of attraction. Admittedly, my directions were poor and I became frustrated trying to locate it. Hopefully this listing will be of help to others trying to locate it either for its intended use (parking), or to admire the huge street art murals! (Note: in Dublin 8.) The Tivoli Car Park is unique in that it's a beautiful showcase of street art tucked away from the bustle of the city. I love the juxtaposition of urban street art against the backdrop of the surrounding neighborhood, including old architecture. The art was so unique, colorful, and impressive! We spent a good amount of time admiring and photographing the murals. The weather was beautiful, too, which added to the experience. You wouldn't know it existed unless you happened to look for parking in the area, happened to walk by the car park and noticed a mural peeking out, or you intentionally looked for it. It's something to appreciate, and I recommend people take a look while in the area!

These include engine failure, the clutch, tires and electrical system. I paid over $200 for the most comprehensive insurance the agent said they offered and an additional fee for roadside assistance. We spent an entire day stranded in Dundalk, with little or no compassion from management. The tow truck driver claimed "this happens all the time." I've been billed $1,700 for the clutch and $144 for a replacement rental, which I never signed or initialed for.
