A travel companion and I hired him recently for our trip to Patagonia, AZ. I couldn't be more pleased. I'm far from an expert while my travel companion is very experienced, and Matt was able to bridge the differences in our skill levels. He is patient and friendly, willing to go at the pace his clients set. He was polite and helpful to people who collected around us without letting it distract him from our goals. Matt is excellent with bird calls, so he was able to keep alerting us to new and unusual species. Since my companion and I are also interested in the general environment the birds live in, Matt also talked about reptiles and amphibians, as well as butterflies and the history of the area. Matt's rate is more than reasonable, and, given his extensive experience, capable communication skills, and breadth of general knowledge, I recommend his services whole-heartedly.

Living in Tucson it takes just under two hours to drive from where we are to get to Patagonia State Park. The Ranger station opens at 8 AM and it was $20 to Park for the day. Due to mismatch schedules, we went on a Monday and in Tucson. It was in 105F and the escape from the heat was a great plus. Around the lake is an area for swimmers and Kayak launching in a separate space in a different area to launch boats for people going fishing. There are multiple campsites available for tent, camping and RV camping. In addition to dry cabins in Rose with A shared restroom area and showers available. There are multiple picnic areas and a large ramada available for the swimmers and kayakers. They were a generous number of restrooms available where we were. When we arrived employees were cleaning the restrooms and trash was being dumped. In coming on a Monday, the grounds were tidy. If you're bringing children to like Patagonia, they want them wearing life fest and they have a limited number of free life fess available for people that are gonna be in boats or kayaks. We had everything we needed to have a wonderful experience. We took advantage of the picnic tables to inflate our Kayak and it didn't ever feel like a crowded experience. We were able to have a peaceful three hours of enjoyment.

Prices were high in the market concession, and I didn't see any pricing. They charged $8 for a 19.9 oz of Coconut Water, which is at least a 100% markup. I was impressed that they offered free WiFi down by the lakefront, unfortunately it wasn't working.

The AAC put up our archaeological field school for two summers and we couldn't have asked for better hosts. In addition to becoming our temporary lab, the AAC does a whole lot to support the Arivaca community and beyond. They even starting a crop circle to grow seeds of Native American crops that were destroyed by drought in 2012. They run a preschool and an exercise/pilates group. In the back, they have a room where a massage therapist has appointments. They have leased their space to artists and activists and more. They have two guest rooms they rent to visitors which are colorful, clean, and welcoming. And they're constantly thinking of ways to expand. Jill in particular has this phenomenal can-do, no-BS attitude that immediately puts me at ease and assures me that everything that needs to get done, will get done, and in the best way possible. This woman is so resourceful it's inspiring. If you need a place to stay while in Arivaca, definitely give them a go. And if you need to know ANYTHING at all about the area, ask. They know and passionately love this area inside and out.

The town was founded in 1878 and has been the home of a hardy, friendly group sense. In the past, accommodations were limited to campers. If you're like me, the thought of sharing a sleeping bag with the local "critters" or sharing a bathroom at an rv park isn't the most appealing way to spend vacation. I'll admit it, I'm a wimp. My idea of roughing it is no HBO. As you can imagine, I was thrilled to learn that there's a nice place to lay your head with comfy beds, fresh linens and free Wi-Fi. There's no TV, but I was happy to trade it for wonderful companions and a beautiful view. The Arivaca Action Center has two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The rooms are tastefully appointed and feature beautiful antique furnishings. Guests can hide in their rooms or enjoy the shared kitchen and living room with locals and visitors. While we were there we got to know an incredible group of graduate students who worked in the desert all day then came to the action center to make dinner, watch movies and hang out on the large front porch during the evening. Once they headed to their camp, the entire place was ours - plenty of couch space to lounge on and a nice, bug table for eating or doing some work. Jill, who runs the center is a lovely, generous woman who makes guests feel like extended family. If you're looking to get away from it all, treat yourself to some time in this remote, wonderful town and enjoy a great stay at the Action Center.

We were a little early so we wandered around and went in to the gift shop and then in to Stables Ranch Grille for an adult beverage to get the afternoon going. The interior of the restaurant and bar is warm and inviting and full of history. My Sonoran Blood Orange cocktail was just what the doctor ordered. The massage experience felt luxurious and healing. Fluffy robes, slippers, a relaxing private waiting area as well as an outdoor seating area with a hot tub for spa clients. The women's locker room has a dry sauna and a steam room. Lockers, showers, a full array of complimentary products to make one beautiful and clean again after any treatment. I would love to come back and stay at one of the casitas and do all of this over again. The grounds are absolutely beautiful.

We were blown away. It was SPOTLESS, the staff was so welcoming, and they were able to accommodate our MANY needs. The rooms are HUGE and they have a great breakfast/ common area. We stayed there 8 days, and we were sad to leave. Anna was extremely helpful and even has helped me on a few things that I needed 2 weeks after we checked out.
