I was referred to Environix by my realtor and very glad for it. Matt Conway was the inspector. He was on-time, professional and very personable to work with. Before he left, he gave me an verbal summary of his results and then followed up within a couple of days with a professional report, complete with photos, charts and recommendations about how to remedy a whole range of issues (mold, humidity, carpeting, staining, etc.) The big surprise was that the mold in my house was within the normal range and did not recommend professional treatment. I can clean it myself with common household cleaners. As I read the one-or-two other reviews that say they had a horrible experience, I wonder if they are actually talking about the same company. Just called Environix about some black mold in our house. I was super worried, because 3 of the 5 of us are currently sick. They said the worries and dangers of black mold are actually a myth. It is no more harmful than any other mold. They said that if you are licking the mold or have a sensitivity to molds, then it can cause harm to you. If that's not the case then they suggested cleaning it up with Borax and water. They did suggest to wear gloves though and to call them if it comes back or gets worse. I contacted Enviornix to evaluate a mold issue in my rental. They came in a timely manner, provided an inspection and gave a report. I was concerned since our tenant kept complaining. Not only were they very professional, they gave feedback on their concerns and what we could do; to remedy the problem. My tenant said that the there was a lack of upkeep and maintenance in our home which led to the mold issues. However, Environix said that mold can be caused by a variety of reasons and due to the lack of cleanliness of the tenant, this was also a cause of the mold in the home. I called Environix to investigate a mold issue in my residential condo unit. I was concerned that there was a leak or some other kind of defect that was causing the mold, or that it was behind the drywall. Tim came to do the inspection and determined that it was just poor ventilation and high humidity, but that there was no moisture in the walls or floors. The cost of the inspection and lab report wasn't necessarily cheap (actually, I have no idea how much these things are supposed to cost), but it was worth it for piece of mind. After the inspection I was provided with a thorough report including photos, which I really appreciated since I wasn't present for the inspection. The report included recommendations to keep the problem from recurring, as well as a quote for remediation. The remediation was pricey, but they were not pushy about it all. This is a scum company. They are shady, greedy, and horrible to work with. We first paid $175 for them to come out and inspect a house we were interested in, because there was staining in the sheathing of the attic. We were told that it was definitely mold. It wouldn't travel inside the house but it would eventually compromise the structural integrity of the wood. We were quoted $6000 - and if you pay with card, it's a couple hundred dollars more. We signed a contract with the sellers to take care of all the ventilation issues and we would pay Environix to spray their special super secret stuff on the attic sheathing once we moved in. Now fast forward and we're in escrow and now Environix is refusing to provide specifications for the work the contractors need to do. Now I was told over the phone by Michael, on a three way call with my real estate agent, that we (or the sellers) were free to do all contractual work and Environix would swoop in and just spray the sheathing and if we followed their estimate, we would have their lifetime guarantee. Liars, liars, liars. They were difficult to work with, stubborn, and unhelpful. The estimate from Environix stated we needed 45' of ducting put in the attic - so the sellers had 45' of ducting put up - and once it was up there they refused to help them set it up correctly by providing specifications. We were told later by a manager it was because they were not customers, and were being hard on them because of that, and Environix is super secret with how they remediate mold. Great. What a shady, disgusting company. They were hurting US, the potential customers. We got a new bid, paying ANOTHER $175 for Michael to come out and the new bid? $5000. Only $1000 less than their original estimate. This is what had been done so far: all ventilation had been fixed to vent to exterior of house, vent caps had been replaced to specific roof cap vents, outlet installed for attic fan (let me mention they would not tell us about this super secret attic fan that we were not allowed to buy and have ready for them), bathroom fans installed and set to run CONSTANTLY, 45' ducting just set inside the attic for them. Baffles were also lifted as per Environix's estimate, insulation moved around soffits and a couple other things I can't remember right now. And to add insult to injury, they said the 45' ducting was useless and needed to be removed so Environix ducting could be installed in there. Really? So after all that was done, they only removed $1000. And, by the way, you better pay cash or check because it's $150 more. Manager was not helpful. Michael never emailed us back, even though our email stated we wanted everything in writing from now on, and he kept calling us instead. Let me also mention they NEVER itemized their estimates. Never. Even when we asked. And the original $6000 estimate had about a 10 item list of things NOT quoted. They were extremely nice at first, so don't let that fool you. When we started doing things according to what THEY wanted, they completely changed their tune. And then, it's too late because you've already spent so much money to do things according to THEIR estimate. They completely took advantage of us. If only we got everything in writing instead of believing Michael when he said we could do everything but the spraying ourselves. This company is evil and dishonest. I was hesitant to spend $250 on an inspection because I had heard about bait and switch tactics from other consultants. However, it was well worth it and the recommendations were exactly what I was looking for and were not expensive. The technician was professional and arrived on time and quickly assessed the moisture problem. He confirmed it was due to leaky plumbing under the floor slab that I was in the process of having a plumber fix. He also recommended that I install Panasonic fans to add needed ventilation in the bathroom. I work in engineering so am familiar with these fans and know they're the best solution. I rent the downstairs to tenants and he recommended installing an automatic timer in the garage so that they turned on regularly which was a great idea. He also recommended having the porous travertine tile sealed which I did and it made a difference. All great recommendations and not very expensive. Also good for peace of mind to know that I didn't have a bigger problem than just the leaky pipes. No more mildew smell now!! read more

I had a roof leak that resulted in an odd smell in one room. After having the a new roof put on, I wanted to make sure that everything looked good in the attic as far as any mold growth. I thought I was getting new tile and sinks in my bathroom; the project turned into something way more than I bargained for. After several new contractors I was interviewing expressed concern about one of the old floor layers containing asbestos, I contacted Environix about having the flooring tested. I was in a bit of a time crunch and juggling several people's schedules, but Tyler came out promptly, took samples of the flooring, explained that the drywall of the same era might have the same problem and took samples of that too. I received all of the results and a full report in 2 days; one of the tests was inconclusive and needed the more detailed (and expensive) testing, but this was explained and the decision was left to me on how much testing I needed for my project. Best of all, since some of the tests showed that there was asbestos present, the office manager immediately sent me the contact info for a professional removal crew that was able to quickly get me into their schedule. Overall, asbestos removal turned out to be a bright spot in a stressful project! read more

We were very pleased with Environix and are happy to recommend them. Everyone we dealt with was professional and courteous and our issue was resolved in a timely manner. We discovered mold in our attic that had grown due to improper venting of our kitchen range and bathroom fan. They were able to do the remediation without removing and replacing the insulation, which made their bid a fraction of the price of other bids we received. They didn't up-sell us on services that were unnecessary, and the report from Tim was very helpful in explaining what we had to do so that the problem didn't come back. I had to install 5 new roof vents prior to the remediation in order to receive the warranty. Tim detailed exactly what type of vent was necessary and where they needed to be installed. He even answered a phone call in the evening when I was at Home Depot and wasn't sure which vents I needed to get. They have roofing people that they sub-contract, but they were also fine with me doing that part of the job myself. The technician who did the remediation work was professional and friendly and cleaned everything up. The attic looks amazing. If I could rate them 10 stars, I would. I was in a crisis situation with our house falling out of escrow due to a toilet tank leak two years ago that was identified within 4 1/2 hours of starting. The remediation company did everything to repair and remediate the damage, restoring the impacted areas to as good as new. The speed of the repair meant that there was no opportunity for mold to develop. The buyer, unconvinced, rescinded her offer and we out of escrow, putting our close on a new home in CA in jeopardy with 2 leaks to go. I found Environix early Tuesday morning, and despite being last minute, they fit me in for an appt the following morning, David Mallory was the technician performed the testing. He was thorough, courtious, patient with my questions. He offerred/recommended testing the full house, since it wouldn't cost any more and we would then have the results for the full house. David agreed to talk to my buyer and explain what he did and what he found. The buyer was much calmer after she talked with him, and came over to see the areas he tested. She then elected to rescind her rescission. David was simply exceptional. He represents the organization with incredible knowledge, patience, and kindness. David's colleague Kathy was equally as impressive, courtious, and finding a way to get the air samples processed by Wed evening so we could imform the buyer. Although the transfer to and backlog at the lab meant they couldn't expedite the work as quickly as they were hoping, Kathy called me back to apologize and commit to communicating the results the next morning. David did indeed call with the results early the following morning, and we had the report we needed for the buyer later that evening. My entire experience dealing with Environix was exceptional. Their people, their timeliness, their communication were all well above the expectation I had going in, I am now a fan, and would, unequivocally recommend their services. They deserve an award for Best Service Company Puget Sound. Their staff not only did the job I hired them to do, they recognized the stress and urgency of the system and went above and beyond for my case. These people are very hard to work with. The first time out the gentleman was nice. When I asked for further testing they refused to do it saying mold is mold which I have found is not true. Tim Klassen within 10 minutes seeing the house and wanted to show it to his wife and then did not arrive that day. He was in my driveway with her the next day as I just got home never giving even a hours notice. He said he would let me know what they decided but as yet I have never had a call from him and it has been three months I have found the firm to be rude and uncooperative by the most part. There appears to be no communication within the firm. In the reviews I have found the answer to black mold that they want to charge me $3000 to remediate. I had asked for further testing and they refused saying it was a waste of money. When I said it was my money, they still refused. It was tested and so that I had further communication with the firm as what I wanted them to do. It had to be the whole $3000 or the highway. This is a firm that I would not ever deal with again. I was told by the office manager that she wouldn't honor the quote, after I had passed it on to my client with no markup. The folks at Environix are real pros who are willing to go the extra mile for their customers. We hired Environix on a recommendation from our realtor to investigate water intrusion from a siding issue in our building. Their head office was very flexible on working with us to set a time and date for the inspection that would fit our work schedules. The inspector, Dan Ventura, was very thorough and knowledgable, and made sure to explain all the steps of the inspection and what he found out along the way in easy-to-understand terms. In addition to water intrusion from the outside, Dan also analyzed air circulation and moisture levels inside our home. Based on these findings, he suggested installing a new set of powerful, energy efficient vents to keep the air moving and avoid issues. The vent installation was also done by Environix at a quick turnaround and friendly service, again with flexible and quick scheduling. And when we needed the vents serviced, Environix came by on the next day to fix the issue; and the technician, Tim, also volunteered to climb on a ladder and patch up the hole in a siding until the siding company can take care of it. Environix did a fantastic job on our attic mold problem, which was caused by a contractor's mistakes. We found the price to be absolutely in line with what other mold companies are charging in the area, if not better, and the amount of professionalism was astounding. the consultants were ALWAYS available (Dan Ventura was amazing - available at all times via cell phone and was always willing to provide advice and answers) and were thorough in their approach to solving our issues. The job in our attic took 2 weeks to complete and even after that there were continued issues due to problems with furnace exhaust that we had uncovered later (thank goodness again to Environix for noticing the problem otherwise we could have continued for who knows how long with that danger). Environix never missed a beat and was usually at our house within 12-24 hours of a call to re-investigate so we could get to the bottom of the issue. I bought a house in a competitive bid situation necessitating pre-inspections and acceptance as-is, so I knew from the start that I'd have to deal with some attic mold remediation once we moved in. Not exactly a happy state of affairs, plus added stress at a time that was already very stressful. And yet, working with Environix and the extremely skilled, professional, friendly and helpful people there proved to be a total pleasure. Everyone involved went out of their way to communicate thoroughly and to help in every way possible. Kathy was great in explaining what would be involved and in getting everything set up, and Jodie the project manager was extremely helpful in a series of emails as we worked through a series of little snags (all the house's fault thanks to some work that had been previously) that we encountered. Then there was Josh, the inspector (who ended up having to do some extra work because of aforementioned house oddities) and Jeremy, who handled the remediation work and related. I have an rental house in the Alki area and had tenants who were concerned about mold due to some water seepage months back. I called several companies but Environix stood out: 1) Very friendly and responsive on the first call. Kathy was great and took time to educate me on the mold testing process. 2) They scheduled it for the next day to fit my travel schedule 3) Josh arrived on time the next day. My tenants were there and Josh did a fantastic (and unexpected) job of explaining how mold grows and walking my tenants through the test process. He put them at ease and was there for over 30 minutes. Very professional and excellent customer service. 4) The report was ready 3 days later as promised and we confirmed that mold was not a concern in the house. This included an air sample. Unfortunately my encounter with Environix has been the worst part of my home tear down and custom build project. The Inspection Coordinator (Brian L) was very professional and responsive which was much appreciated, however; the huge breakdown and lack of professionalism was with management. The specific situation is important, but it was the managements response that was most concerning and warranted this review. We called to schedule a required inspection prior tearing down our house. We noted that our house would not be torn down for a handful of months. We were advised to set up an appointment, it would take a few hours and we would just need to let someone in. Specifically, we were told that we did not need to follow the inspector around. The pricing structure was clear - until the time of testing. We did not realize just how many different test would be required because of our various house materials so the actual price was surprising but again, it was in line with what was initially explained, so no issue there. Post appointment; most of the sample removals were taken in inconspicuous spaces. Understanding there is a chunk of material removed, the inspector tried to find places behind doors or in a small corner so it wouldn't be obvious. Again, we were going to remain living in the house for a several of months (including through the Christmas holiday). There was one removal that was right in the center of our main entrance, a jagged chunk of tile was removed. This is where all the foot traffic was for entering & exiting our home. Not only was this incredibly visible but was a hazardous risk for tripping on. We also had to be careful not to walk in this area without shoes, as well as watch for the dogs safety. Looking for any type of recommendations to find a solution for this we called Environix back. Environix said that they would have the inspector call back to discuss with me directly. After two days; he called my cellphone to talk about the problem area. He then told me that he had no idea that we were going to live there and so he took the samples wherever he wanted. After we went back and forth he then changed the story to align with the fact that he took the samples in hidden spots because he knew we were going to live there; but failed to do so on the tile. He said he didn't on the tile because he noticed a crack so he thought that he would just take it there anyway. The makeup of our entryway is very simple with many different areas; including a entry way table that the sample could have been pulled from underneath. It would have remained entirely hidden. Point being that it was a 15 min call with the inspector essentially arguing over the facts then going back on what he said to agree with most of the story. To be clear, my frustration is not with the inspector; I'd venture to say that he handles a lot of houses any given week and this could have slipped his mind or been an oversight. I had called Environix back to share the experience and the outcome of my call - which went nowhere. Customer Service insisted that they would continue this conversation because we were less than happy with our experience. They also asked that we share photos of the tile and the location. Happily sent over the photos for their review. Management was supposed to get in touch with me directly. Again, no response, so I sent another follow up via e-mail. December 4th I received a call back from the manager. We ran through the timeline of events (she barked them at me) and were in agreement of the situation and the concern of the sample location. Essentially she said, it is what it is and there's nothing they can do about it, "it's too bad" as she put it. I wanted to explore that response because that didn't sit right with me and I told her I don't think that is the correct answer. She was incredibly defensive; and also suggested that if we were going to live there we could have followed the inspector around to make sure we liked where the samples were being taken. She interrupted me a handful of times where I had to explicitly say, "Please let me finish talking". After cutting me off she then came up with the brilliant suggestion to 'put a pretty holiday rug' over the chipped tile. If only a written review could truly emphasize the disrespectful tone she carried, she was crass and clearly has an inability to listen. I truly have never left negative public feedback as there can be many outside factors for sub-par service, however there were many different touchpoints where management could have made things right or at the very least, upheld a professional manor. It is quite unfortunate as our real estate business is often asked for referrals and recommendations (which I also shared with the manager). Not only will I not recommend this company but I strongly suggest that one seeks other alternative(s), even if prices are not comparable. Working with a professional read more

I had a slow leak in my roof that had existed for quite a while undetected (I only recently bought the house which is a serious "project house" so to speak). Once I discovered the leak, I patched it up myself...and then noticed a significant amount of mold covering about 40 square feet in total in the same general vicinity. I thought that I was going to be looking at a costly mold remediation at best, and an extremely costly mold remediation and significant repair work at worst. Environix came out, I believe Josh was the inspector's name (the business card is at home and I am writing this from work). He did a very thorough investigation of my house, and then shocked me with what he told me: There was little damage due to the roof leak and nothing to worry about as long as I made sure I had patched the roof completely. Furthermore, the mold that was present was not only unrelated to my roof leak, but was from many years ago and was long dormant. With a couple of hours of my own time, I could clean it up myself with no problem whatsoever. No additional professional work was needed. This was great news for me, of course, and I'm happy that I'm not looking at several thousand dollars of work. More importantly, though, I am extremely impressed that Josh was entirely straight forward, and made no effort whatsoever to sell me on services that I simply didn't need. He was very clear with me that it was a simple problem that I could easily fix myself. Furthermore, he also provided me with a few good ideas for things I could do with the house to prevent other types of mold growth as I move forward with the renovations over the next couple of years. I have lived in my apartment for over a year and my children are constantly sick. I hired Environix to perform a mold inspection and take an indoor air quality test. Josh came out and did his thing. He found mold in areas that I didn't know could grow mold for example on the living room door hinges and underneath the toilet in my kid's bathroom. It was pretty nasty stuff. Josh was able to point out minor mold that I could clean up myself. He informed me that the mold is a result of improper ventilation in my unit. He didn't suggest any unnecessary work.. He pointed out that my toilets are leaking into the wall but that is something that the property management has to take care of. He gave me straightforward information and the report on the inspection was clear and understandable. My indoor air quality test came back with extremely low levels. I probably could have been ok without having a mold inspection and test but I chose to do it for peace of mind. Unfortunately for me the previous owner of my house chose this company to do mold remediation work in the attic. When the time to reinspect their work came there were issues with the scheduler, who first scheduled the inspection on the wrong date and then re-scheduled it without confirming with me. On both times the inspector wasted his time coming to my house when I wasn't there but the company chose not to acknowledge their mistake and instead shift the blame to the customer. Their customer service is horrible, they threatened to both hang up on me and then issued a second threat saying that if I did my own inspection "there better be some mold there or we will charge you". If this is what a company does for a simple thing like a scheduling error I can't imagine what happens when bigger things go wrong. Stay away. read more

I called Environix last week and received excellent pre-information on the phone from Kathy. The fees were all spelled out very clearly. Today, the gentleman who did the inspection arrived at the scheduled time at my home. His name was Josh, and boy was he extremely knowledgeable and thorough. He reminded me of a much more personable "Sheldon", yes he was THAT smart and a great teacher! He conducted his examination and then told me about the things we needed to fix, the things that we didn't need to worry about, what was a potential issue, what was not. He answered every question I had, took pictures for his report, and had a fantastic attitude while dealing with someone who was really worried about mold. (me). :) I'm SO glad I checked on Yelp and found Environix. They more than deserve their rating! When we buy a house next spring, we will have an inspection done by them before we buy! We were in the process of buying a bank owned property in Issaquah. Five days before closing, the lender pointed out a finding in the inspection report concerning 'mildew/fungal growth in the master bathroom'. We had a contractor assure us that he could safely remove mold discovered in our bathroom. Long story short, he didn't know what he was doing and the mold spores spread through our house and my family and I had to move out. Environix helped us safely clean up our home so we could move back in. James is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about mold and how to safely remove it.
