In Rome, the Hotel Locarno was lovely and quaint. We felt like family from the time we walked in the door. We especially enjoyed the antique elevator and the courtyard where we had breakfast each day. Our guide Francesca was amazing, she shared her wealth of knowledge on the Forum, the Colosseum, the Vatican and the Galleria Borghese. She also offered useful suggestions for sites to explore on our own. Moving to Siena, our driver Simone was a delight, he was so pleasant and willing to share his knowledge of the region. Stefania was perhaps our favorite guide; she really gave us a feel for the area and its unique characteristics. Our day in Chianti was the highlight of our trip. We loved visiting the charming towns in the area and visiting a working vineyard and enjoying the hospitality of the owner. The food and wine were both exceptional. The Hotel Palazzo Ravizza, was comfortable and offered amazing views of the beautiful countryside. In Florence, we were truly amazed by the Uffizi Gallery and Accademia and Elena & Antonio were wonderful guides. The David was stunning. To understand the role the Medici's played in the region really helped us understand their contribution to the Renaissance. We enjoyed a Florentine Bistecca and many delicious meals. We so enjoyed our cooking class at Giglio Cooking. Marcella Ansaldo was an excellent instructor and helped us make some of our favorite Italian dishes. We look forward to purchasing her cook book. Finally, Venice was our favorite stop. We were in awe from the moment we arrived at the train station. The water taxi to our hotel was an amazing introduction to the city. The Hotel Splendid, was just that - Splendid. We loved our room and the staff was delightful. Our guide, Isabella provided both an excellent walking tour and water taxi overview of the city, along with a side tour to Murano. Every part of our trip left us begging for more. We can't wait to go back. We asked that you develop a personalized itinerary for us that balanced tours with down time and offered a broad introduction to the country. She also went over and beyond to help us with a passport issue, although that was not a part of her job. I could tell she wanted us to enjoy our trip, probably even more than we did...lol. Working with Action Travel Center was one of the worst experiences I had ever had. My boyfriend…read moreand I booked a week-long trip to Rivera Maya and worked with Kim to make all the reservations. At her suggestion, we decided to book an upgraded room that included a private pool. After we paid for the vacation in full, we expected to receive the travel documents from Apple Vacations that include all the reservation details. After weeks of asking, we finally received information on Action Travel Center's letterhead that stated, "Jr. Suite w/ private pool". Still, I pushed for the Apple Vacations documents. When we finally received them only a couple of weeks before our trip, a lot of the reservation was incorrect including flight class, departing flight and room category. After days of going back and forth with Kim and being told "But rest assured you will have exactly what you are expecting when you get there", Kim went radio silent and stopped answering our calls and emails. Our flight was corrected but we got to the resort and we did not have a Jr. Suite w/ a private pool. So, we paid Action Travel Center for something that we never received. They knew exactly what was going on and rather than correct the mistake they made, they decided to do nothing about it, kept our money and lied to us trying to make it look like they were correcting the room with the resort and Apple Vacations. We still enjoyed our vacation and were able to get the money they scammed from us back from our credit card company. We will never use their services again and highly discourage other customers from using them as well.
