I hired Eric D. Mackey-Fitzgerald to be my representation in a custody case for my son in late 2019. Calling Eric was the best decision I could have ever made. He was the first result that came up on my search for an attorney through yelp and I had planned to speak with other attorney's after Eric, but I knew the moment I hung up the phone that Eric had the sharpness, efficiency, knowledge and savvy to help me navigate my case. As a male in a custody battle for a 10 month old, I had very low self-esteem when it came to the eventual outcome for my case. I had a lot of fear and doubt, feeling my ex would ultimately get preferred judgement being the female in my son's life at such an early age. Eric gave me his honest counsel and I could tell back then that he's navigated the OC court system for years and has a lot of experience with similar cases. He kept me informed of what to expect, was very responsive and super efficient. I made my own decisions, but Eric often challenged my initial instincts with his own professional opinions and it always payed off. The most valuable thing Eric ever did for me was challenge me to submit an emergency order for a temporary custody schedule. This was a tactic that Eric recommended, but I originally did not want to pursue. I thought an emergency order may have been overkill given my situation and may have skewed the judge's opinion of me and ultimately not give me the outcome I wanted (50/50 custody of my son). This was my first and only experience petitioning for custody. Eric assured me that he felt we would get the outcome we wanted. My ex had proposed settlement schedules that I was willing to accept that were less than 50/50, but Eric again challenged me to not accept them and let it go to a judge. Putting my trust into Eric, I agreed to submit the emergency order request and have faith in his experience. I have never felt the level of fear that I felt on the day of the emergency order which was a week before Christmas in 2019. The day of the order, I received additional, more generous offers from my ex for a custody schedule that I would have taken in a heart beat if Eric was not there with me. Eric advised me not to accept these proposals and my case ultimately landed in front of a judge. And the judge's order was a 50/50 custody schedule and over a year later was made permanent! Eric pushing for that emergency order spared me from missing out on so much of my son's first years of life! Our original court date was scheduled for late March 2020 and if you don't recall, we entered a global pandemic that month! I can't imagine how far back my original court date would have been pushed had Eric not applied for an early order.
