My highest recommendation! Dr. Wallace and his staff were outstanding. Dr. Wallace performed a double extraction of my #8 and #9 incisors, along with a bone graft and implants. The procedure is quite involved, yet was painless, but most importantly the quality of the repair and implants were flawless. Postoperative pain was especially minimal, and within 24 hours I was pain free and I was back to my daily activities at 100%. And I especially appreciated that Dr. Wallace called me the next morning after surgery to check in with me; to make sure my needs were taken care and to answer any questions I had post-surgery. read more

One of my molars needed to be extracted asap, as it was starting to infect the surrounded teeth and jawbone. I went to my general dentist because I had minor discomfort in my front lower teeth and I felt that they were loosening a bit. When I was told I needed all four of my teeth extracted followed by two implants and a bridge I was shocked. I realized that would entail cutting my gums down to the bone and then having metal pegs screwed into my jaw bone. In the past extraction of my 4 wisdom teeth and one other molar was followed by painful dry socket in each case so I was apprehensive to say the least. I was referred to Dr. Eric Wallace who evaluated me, answered all of my questions and scheduled me for surgery. He is also certified in anesthesia and used "twilight sleep" for the procedure. I remember him saying that I would feel a little sleepy and the next thing I remembered was him telling me that the procedure went well and to go over to my regular dentist for my temporary bridge. I literally had no pain and in fact had no memory of the procedure. Subsequently, I had no bleeding or swelling. I took ibuprofen and Tylenol when I got home and that was the last analgesic I needed. Two weeks later everything looked great and he took the time to show me how to care for my temporary bridge. I look forward to my final appointment in 4 months to get my permanent implants and bridge. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Wallace to anyone needing oral surgery. read more

Dr Wallace is probably as good as an oral surgeon can be. He installed an implant in my jawbone that had that at first failed due my chewing on it. Even though the failure was my fault, he cheerfully replaced it at no extra charge, and it turned out to be successful. He is very professional and his staff are very competent and helpful. I am so happy that Dr. Wallace's office was listed on my insurance. I couldn't have had a better experience and I feel like most people don't say that when you get your wisdom teeth pulled. Honestly, I wish I could see Dr. Wallace for routine appointments like cleanings and such because I have yet to find a dentist who displays the amount of care and professionalism as Dr. Wallace. I am deathly afraid of needles. Seriously. I will cry and cry, push and shove once a needle comes near me. He was extremely patient and empathetic when it came to my fear. He offered to write me a prescription for a low dose anxiety med to take the night before my procedure and although I declined the offer, the fact that he offered made me feel as if he truly understood my fear and wanted to help me the best he could. During my consultation he got some x-rays (if I recall correctly, he had very advanced x-ray machines) and talked to me about the procedure and was so incredibly patient in answering all my questions. I never once felt rushed or as if someone had an appointment after me, which I'm sure there was. I was only seeing him for two of my wisdom teeth because I had gotten the other two removed previously but I had a far better experience with Dr. Wallace. I learned way more about wisdom teeth and everything you could possibly know about the procedure which put me at ease. The day of my procedure, I was shaking and terrified of the thought of the IV. He sat me down and gave me some gas (I think, that day is a little foggy). After I was feeling more relaxed, he told me he was going to put the IV in my arm and asked me to tell him something (lol, I have no clue what he asked me to tell him, but it was probably a story or counting something). I was balling and I mean balling. There were a few other people in the room and they were holding my hands and telling me that everything was going to be ok (which does very little for my fear but so happy they did it). He then waited for me to relax a little and put the IV in only when I was ready. I appreciate his patience so so much. I can't even begin to tell you how thankful I am for such an understanding oral surgeon. I woke up, disoriented and still crying about the needle. He helped my roommate take me out to my car and told her everything she needed to know and some rules for her. It's now been a year since I got my wisdom teeth out and I'm still so happy with my care. I experienced very little pain and although I had some side effects to the medication I was prescribed, I was able to make an appointment the next day to go and see Dr. Wallace and was assured that everything looked normal and slight pain and side effects can be expected. I am only here for school but if I ever need dental surgery, I would probably make the drive to Dr. Wallace's office. The receptionists are very helpful and were able to answer any questions I had regarding billing and insurance stuff. The office is small but has its charm. Almost every guest that I had seen come out of a surgery while waiting for an appointment was treated with great care by the doctor. I loved that every time I went to that office, I spoke to Dr. Wallace himself and not an assistant or someone else. It made my surgery very personable and made me more comfortable. Great front office, great oral surgeon. I had an extraction with NO PAIN. I'm serious about that. I'm not even sure how that's even possible, but that was my experience. And in speaking to friends who went to Dr. Wallace, they had the similarly positive experiences. Let's face it...none of us want to have something yanked out of our faces. But, if you need to have that done, Dr. Wallace seems to be the best oral surgeon in SB. Dr. Wallace's office staff was friendly, helpful and efficient with dealing with my dental insurance and my consultation and actual extraction with Dr. Wallace was more than I'd expected or hoped for; the consultation put my fears to rest and the extraction was painless and fast. I had a SEVERELY infected back molar. (Think gross youtube videos w/pus). I called Dr. Wallace's office to see how quick I could get this nastiness out of my head & his front office staff quickly connected to me to Dr. Wallace himself where he proceeded to find out my situation & then since I didn't have a regular dentist, refer me to a dentist who he highly recommended to start the process & they work in tandem to deal w/my situation. She was great, Dr Wallace's office got me in for an emergency pre-op session (which is necessary b/c it's friggin surgery & you don't just go in cutting into people's jaws w/o Xrays & a plan). After the preop appointment and scans, surgery was scheduled--this happened quickly. Since there was significant infection I was prepping myself for a painful recovery, expecting I'd need massive amounts of pain killers, the strength and amounts of which would eventually land me onto an episode of Intervention. So equipped w/ prescribed meds I had the surgery, all went well, I was put on more antibiotics and sent on my way. Dr. called me that night to check on me, I didn't need to use any happy drugs yet, the next day woke up, felt a bit sore but no chipmunk cheeks, no throbbing pain, no pain actually. I took a Motrin to be on the safe side, 24 hours later, still no need for the class A painkillers. I got through the end of infected molar surgery with needing only 1 Motrin. WOW--I use more Motrin just trying to get rid of headaches from driving on Southern CA freeways! Again, I'm someone who swells easily and is a wuss about pain, I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed w/ this result. Fast forward 1 week and I was taking some preventative oral rinse to also aid in killing germs. I developed some white patches which I was guessing to be oral thrush (gross I know) so I called Dr Wallace's office in mild panic for direction (yeah I'm one of those kinda patients) and it turned out he was on vacation. So panic elevated slightly until not more than 1 hour later I get a call from Dr. Wallace himself. Dude is on vacation & he's returning calls! I'm told to stop the oral rinse, I get a prescription to knock out the thrush, all is good in my world. I'm writing this review b/c I saw a few yelpers that suggested Dr. Wallace was uncaring or not good, lengthy appointments etc. And I can't speak for their experiences or if they were even his clients. All I can say is I'm a dental phobic client who is sensitive to pain & who swells easily, who when I had my wisdom teeth taken out decades ago, had needed major pain meds & was out of it for a week vs my experience w/ Dr Wallace which was excellent outcome from a nasty situation, who seemed very much in control of his tools, has a great skill set, great/friendly staff, clean and chill office setting, etc. An aside...Dr Wallace is one of the few oral surgeons in Southern California who work with zirconia implants. So if you don't want/can't have titanium metal in your mouth, this is someone who does biocompatible implants. He also did implant surgery on me and everything was smooth sailing. Covid-19 has hit my pocketbook greatly, so I can't yet follow up on needed work, yet, but when I can have more implants done, I will travel to SB from LA to have him work on me. read more

I'm not usually one to write reviews and especially because Dr.Wallace didn't even operate on me, but it was my job to pick up my best friend, from her wisdom teeth surgery (a seemingly easy task) she said she tried to make conversation with Dr.Wallace, he was very short, put her IV in and said "you're going to feel sleepy" the surgery seemed to go alright but once I picked her up, we went straight to the pharmacy to pick up her prescription, the pharmacy told us the pad on which prescription was written is out of date and they turned us away. So I got her into bed and gave her some Advil and called the doctor. The receptionist at the office claimed to call the pharmacy and told me I was all set. I went to pick up the prescription and the pharmacy had no recollection of a phone call and turned us down again. I called the doctors personal phone and he proceeded to make jokes about how awful of a day I signed up for taking care of my best friend. I didn't laugh instead I insisted on getting her prescription since at this point she had fainted and thrown up and was crying from pain. A night goes by of four unsuccessful pharmacy visits, and then my friend talked to the doctor on the phone, he laughed, said "wow day from hell ahah" which we didn't find amusing at all since my best friend is sobbing from pain then he told us 100% we were set at the pharmacy and they had a note in our file and that we should be all set. Yet again, no note and we were turned down. A DAY GOES BY, I walk in to my best friends room she's crying from pain and didn't want to bother me anymore, we tried Walgreens our last resort and they reluctantly listened to our story and saw my friend crying and decided to work with us. Long story short, if you're getting your wisdom teeth out, might want to go somewhere more professional and prepared, it really seemed like the whole process was really unwelcome and they were acting as if they were doing us a favor. read more

I cannot say enough good things about how well my procedure went: an impacted wisdom tooth so complicated that no oral surgeon wanted to touch it for decades. But when it became necessary to intervene, Dr. Wallace was the only surgeon in town who recommended a coronectomy: clearly the right call. The procedure went very well, the aftermath was not nearly as painful as I'd feared and the healing was right on track. I never even needed anything stronger than Alleve. What I appreciated most was the conservative and cautious approach along with his fine analytical mind in the various diagnostic approaches he took over the years. After being painfully mangled by another Oral Surgeon when I had my tooth extracted, there was no way I was going back to him for my implant.
