This dentist has truly saved me during several dental emergencies. A few years ago, I cracked a tooth and he was able to get me in the very same day. Today, I had another emergency--a failed crown that caused an infection--and when I called at noon, he fit me in for a 2 p.m. appointment. That level of care is a huge relief, especially compared to my old dentist, who often booked appointments a month out. For someone like me, that just doesn't work. I also appreciate that he's willing to treat multiple teeth in one visit rather than stretching things out unnecessarily. Because of Lyme disease and the medications I've had to take, my enamel is badly damaged--similar to what some chemotherapy patients experience. I need a dentist who is kind, understanding, and doesn't judge my situation. He has been exactly that, even years ago when I needed an urgent repair on a cracked tooth. He ripped part of my husband's gum out & left it hanging, & a woman was bawling her eyes out when I first walked in to his office. Ya he doesn't have the newest equipment or hot dental hygienist (shit, he doesn't have any helpers) and he was able to pull multiple teeth and get me fitted for my partial within an hour. I want to start by saying that I drove 4 1/2 hours to be seen by the specific dentist because of the service that I knew I would receive . I caller the day before my appointment because my wisdom tooth had a cavity that was really causing me a lot of pain and Dr. Kashfi was kind enough to see me the very next morning . This is the fourth wisdom tooth that I have taken out and it was the most pain-free experience possible. I do not like the dentist nor do I l like needles, but Dr. Kashfi really made this a relaxing and pleasant experience. I was so anxious that I started to humming "guantanamera" and he started humming along with me, which made the whole experience that much more pain-free, because I was just distracted by the fact that my doctor was singing Guantanamera with me. Dr. Kashfi also fixed a filling that had become loose due to my incessant grinding, and I was out and on my way within 30 minutes! The whole process felt extremely thorough and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I recommend him to my family and friends, and I recommend him to you as well. He is truly a gem of a dentist that is worth a 4 1/2 hour drive while in pain, because of the quality work that he does in his attentive, bedside manner. read more

This place so SO SCARY. I work for California Department of Health, and can say this place needs to be shut down. Chamber of horrors. UNSAFE PRACTICE! Only Dr. Kashfi staffs the office. Answers the phone, does a brief intake. Has one room, so you can see the patient in front of you , and Dr. Kashfi has him wait while he does intake. He insisted on taking exrays ( I brought film from ones taken two weeks before. ) The X-ray machine was filthy, no covers on anything. Peeling paint and mold in the exam room. Nasy, clogged looking Hepa machine. Not running. I did not witness the tools for the cleaning come out of a sterile plastic bag. Who knows how they were cleaned. He did not wash his hands. He did wear gloves, but left the room to do something, and came back with the same gloves on. I would NOT take my dog to him. Don't go and save yourself . I will be reporting his practice, and hopefully he will be shut down, but I happen to know he is one of the few dentists who will work with people on Cen-cal insurance. It was just him alone when I came in. He's friendly. Before he took my X-rays, he had put his hands in my mouth to examine. Then he grabbed the weighted vest for the X-rays when it dropped on the floor...with the same hands he just put in my mouth and then continued to examine with the same gloves. I got a cleaning done. Very little pain, thankfully! He helped fill some little cavities, very little pain too. Also, he saw that I mentioned a tooth that I wanted removed and he asked me if I wanted it removed, the same day as it's my first time with him! I took the opportunity and said yes! He injected numbing things and didn't really hurt much! After the cleaning and everything else, he pulled my tooth out. Pain level? Like a 2! Very minimal! Thankfully the numbing stuff worked! The only thing I can say that I didn't like was there wasn't like a thorough list of after care (mostly of what to eat/not eat) and if I can brush my teeth or not, that I can't have hot/warm foods and that's about it. I had to ask or look that stuff up myself afterwards or ask my husband. I did get a prescription of amoxicillin and if I have pain, just take ibuprofen. And I like how he mentioned to use a tea bag instead of gauze to help heal! And I like how I can call him directly! What I liked -he's nice, personable and you can reach to him directly thru phone -his work was done well with not much pain -got a lot of things done covered by medi cal -he made me feel comfortable What I didn't like -he used the same gloves to examine my mouth to pick something up off the ground and then used the same hands -I didn't get a full after-care list from him as I had to ask the questions myself/look them up Final recommendation? Took my daughter in for an emergency visit today with Dr Kashfi. I called his office and Dr. Kashfi answered directly and after I explained what was going on he got us in within a couple hours. He suggested wonderful books for my daughter to read and made us feel comfortable. He also explained my daughters treatment very thoroughly & took care of the problem in one seating. There were so many red flags; and a part of me DID know, but I just kept thinking, "No, it's fine. Medicare would never send me to someone incompetent or dangerous." I called to get a crown out on a molar I had broken. Dr. Kashfi answered. To my surprise, he made the appt. for me. No receptionist? I missed that appt. I called as soon as I realized I'd missed it and again, Kashfi answered. He told me we could reschedule for the next day. Now, growing up in SB, my dentist was always so busy that if you missed an appt., there was a $100 fee and you'd be lucky to get another one a month later. But here's Kashfi telling me he can get me in tomorrow? He tells me ANY time. Like all day? Yes, any time. Why doesn't he have a SINGLE appt. all day tomorrow? He's one of only a few dentists here who accept Medical. I came in the next day. Yes, there was no receptionist to be seen. But there were also no dental assistants. ANYWHERE. It was just Kashfi. Alone. In his one-roomed dental office. There were papers everywhere, and an old ugly, dusty couch. And the chair. Ok, whatever. I sat down in the chair. He informed me that crowns are not covered by Dentical, and so I'd need to pay for that. I asked if I could call my mom for her help with it, he said sure; she didn't pick up. Then he said well you have a few small cavities forming; why don't we just take care of those while we're waiting for her to get back to you? Now I guess I've been spoiled with the precision and just, GRACE with which I've been handled by my dentists my entire life, because I've never felt like I was being WRENCHED on before. He practically put his foot up on me. I kept gripping the armrests with white knuckles and grimacing. The only way I can really describe it is to say that it was VIOLENT. The whole time he drilled out what I THOUGHT were going to be a few small cavities, but were really literally every other tooth in my mouth. Then, he started preparing the fillings. My uncle has been a dentist in Redlands my whole life, and so I actually know a few things about fillings. I requested that he use porcelain fillings, to which he replied after some thought, "Oh, well you see, I'm just very concerned that because of the rather large surface area of some of these, that porcelain just won't hold up, and I'm afraid that it will crack." That sounded like bulls*it. I just thought at the time, ok he's the dentist. He must know best. No, no, Dentical would never send me to someone that would be dishonest. So he proceeded to do the fillings instead with Silver Amalgum. You know, the dark-looking fillings that have Mercury in them? Ya, in the visible teeth up front, too. My uncle being a dentist, I know this: when doing a filling, after drilling out the cavity, one absolutely MUST dry and isolate said tooth, which is usually done by placing tightly-wound gauze rolls around it and then hitting it with air until completely dry, the gauze rolls keeping any saliva clear of the tooth. This never happened. For any of the fillings. He simply filled all the holes he drilled out with silver amalgum. I know that porcelain is expensive. It's more expensive than silver amalgum. Dentical covers the use of porcelain for fillings. Do you want to know what I suspect? Kashfi DID bill Medical/Dentical for each filling he did in porcelain. He just filled each hole he made with silver amalgum instead, so that he could keep the difference. I believe Kashfi is scamming Dentical. read more

[continued] I've since asked my dentist uncle as well as other dentists (whom I've had to see to try to fix what is now permanent damage to my teeth), and they all agree: the whole, oh-the-surface-area-is-too-great-and-porcelain-will-crack-and-silver-amalgum-won't, line? Total bullshit. Completely untrue. And Kashfi's negligence regarding drying all of the teeth? Each and every one of his unnecessary fillings fell out of my teeth. All of them. Which left big gaping holes, which then caused all of those teeth to collapse into dust due to the integrity of their structure(s) being compromised with the lack of support from the lost fillings. This is what I am telling you. Kashfi permanently destroyed my mouth, my smile, my confidence, and my ability to eat or just exist without being in pain. And he chose to give me black fillings all over my mouth so that he could scam Medical/Dentical for a quick buck on the side. I know he did. There is no other explanation for the lies and refusal to use porcelain. I am going to be pursuing having his license taken away from him. The lengthy and painful process I've had to pursue since the wrecking of my teeth, of dentist after dentist 4after dental department at university, and the over a year I had to endure of WAITING, near death from abcessed teeth the entire time, due to Covid-19 closures. I nearly died. Taking antibiotics continuously has caused my body, my metabolism, and my immune system now, too, irreparable damage as well. I don't mind getting shots, getting my teeth fixed, but I don't like metal objects in my mouth. Uncomfortable. I went see Dr. Kashfi about 9 weeks ago, with complaints of a tooth ache. He pulled the tooth, also the one next it, it was bad also. I knew I had to face getting dentures, I've been putting it off for a long time. So, after looking at my teeth, Dr. Kashfi put in a request for that procedure (I had 5 front teeth, upper that needed work). It was denied. Instead they wanted 5 root canals and 5 porcelain caps. WOW ! The shots worked great, no pain, plenty of novacaine. He did 5 root canals in about a week, took impressions, they were sent to the lab, 3 weeks later, the caps arrived. Horrible service. I went in to get a filling fixed and ended up with a tooth taken out. If you are considering a new dentist then go somewhere else. He filled teeth that didn't need to be filled. He drilled into older fillings and refilled them without any numbing medicine. He also drilled into a tooth on the opposite side of my mouth of which he had numbed and walked away, then he came back with something and stuck it in my tooth. The numbing medicine was barely working half of the time so I was crying for the entire procedure and told him it was hurting but he just kept on telling me to keep my mouth open. He got my blood all over the place including inside of the hood of my jacket. Definitely recommend going somewhere else. read more

I get my teeth cleaned twice a year and I am always happy going to his office. He is the family dentist for my entire family for regular visit and in case of emergency. BEWARE OF THIS GUY!!! I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to this "hack and patch" so called dentist (didn't see any credentials in the office just a nasty green couch, dirty rug that hadn't been cleaned since it was placed on the floor and another so called patient who had so many white flakes on top and in his hair I had to move as far as I could away from him for fear I would catch his head lice while he preceded to tell me about how F'ed up his teeth were while he seemed very proud of). Never ever in my entire life have I seen such a nasty excuse for a medical office, I'd rather have open heart surgery at the County Clinic than let this guy touch my teeth!!! He has absolutely no one for an office staff which not only means there wasn't anybody else answering the phones or greeting people as they came in, there was no dental assistant or hygienist in sight! He didn't even clean teeth before he wanted to rip them out!!! He barley says a word and of course doesn't answer a single question but with his drill ready in hand asks if you want your teeth pulled right then and there but then looks confused when you ask him if some sort of pain medication or even just some Lydacane could be used before drilling away on teeth that we're hurting already hence why the appointment was made in the first place!!! If he had pulled teeth who knows if he would replace the them with dentures or a bridge or SOMETHING because he didn't answer or tell you a thing!!! He literally would walk in and out numerous times with his mask and his gloves still on all while leaving a patient in the chair waiting wondering "WTF is going on am I being PUNKED here?!" He would answer the phone, hand new patients the one single page for a new patient questionnaire (that he didn't even have me finish he just made sure I signed) and would go back to the (utterly horrified) patient in the chair!!! Nothing looked clean or sterile in the least. The walls looked like something funky was going out of them and whenever he'd come at you with some tool the only thought was "is that thing going to GIVE me an infection" especially since all he would do was wash things off in the sink with a tiny bit of water (and I think I tasted vinegar as well) while he used a tiny flash light that looked like the exact same one I bought last week at the dollar store!!! Needless to say the first and last visit to this quack was more uncomfortable and disgusting than anyone could ever imagine!!! I wonder if a horror movie has been made called "the dentist" because if not one needs to be made by just going with a film crew to his office!!! Save your money and don't trust Medi-Cal to be able to provide you with any normal dentists...go online and get Obama Care which I would happily pay for just to never have to deal with another Medi-Cal referred dentist again because of the extreme post traumatic stress I just received from my appointment with the dentist from your worst nightmares!!! Dr. Kashfi's is a one-person office. It's nothing fancy but he is far more reasonable in his charges than other Santa Barbara area dentists. Most local dentists have a sort of unrecognized cartel that has printers printing out charges they then present to you as proper. Dr. Kashfi keeps an unusual office working by himself without assistants. He seems to be a nice guy with the ability to fix problems and cure toothaches then and there. His prices are not by any means cheap, but mine were substantially less than other dentists asked. His work has been quite satisfactory. I would describe his as relatively inexpressive Santa Barbara dentistry. If he asks too much, be friendly and bargain with him. If you need a lot of work, fly to Antigua ($600) and get $2,000 worth of dentistry (at Santa Barbara prices) for $400. :-) Essentially saving $1,000 or perhaps spending a week or two on vacation in Antigua. BTW, the other reviewer here, signing herself as "Margaret R.", appears never to have had any personal contact with the dentist she reviews. She condemns with hearsay. Dr. Kashfi may have grown up in another culture but I have known him and purchased his services for about ten years. First and last time will i ever go to kashfi's unprofessional solo practice. Unsanitary tools and dentist office. There is no receptionist, just Kashfi, i arrived to a dingy dirty/dusty green couch to welcome you. Once called into patients room it resembles a horrifying abortion clinic that you would see in the movies. Room is dirty white, unorganized, stained, and the patient chair looks like it hasnt had any cleaning. As i sat there contemplating what excuse i would say to get myself to walk out of there i found my self getting x rays and thought this is as far as i go. But no, i then was told to walk into another room, still unclean and he took a look inside and gave me my diagnosis. He poked and prodded and i rinsed with what i believe was water from the sink and found myself looking into a cup with a black speck in it. I should have listened to my gut and walked out immediately. From questionable tools, to him answering the phone with no greeting just a "hello", unsanitary room and equipment i would never refer a family member nor friend.
