There is a pier that overlooks the outside of the hatchery. It has gorgeous picturesque views. There is also the inside part of the hatchery where the young salmon are hatched. Last there is a gift shop that also has a tank with some interesting sea creatures as well as a petting tank. You can sample some of the smoked salmon in the gift shop. Overall, it was a unique experience, and we enjoyed it.

The van came and picked us up for the helicopter ride to the dog sledding. It was so easy to arrange this. So easy and it is slightly less than the cruise line. For is it made a difference we paid for 7 people. The helicopter ride was about 15 minutes to the Hebert glacier, the dog sledding was about 44 minutes. It was so beautiful, our guide was great! I would recommend this. I wish I took more photos. This was a total of 2.5 or so.

One of the best experiences of my life!…read more We had to helicopter to the top of a glacier (Hilbert) to get to the dog camp, and as we circled the camp, I could see the dogs. I got so excited I could barely wait for the chopper to land! When they opened the doors to let me out, I forgot to detach my headset, and when I jumped out, the cord pulled me back in. Pretty hilarious! My feet hit the ground, and I was off, and I was so excited that I fell on my face. I got up and ran again, and boom! Down I went I again! When I finally met the guides (all dressed in fur hats, tshirts, and boxer shorts--it was a warm day atop the snowy/icy glacier--60 degrees F!), they were all hugs and smiles and said they'd never seen anyone so excited to be there. It's a pricey trip, and we were nervous that it might be a rip off, but our fears were instantly alloyed. Our guide, a very cute young man from Georgia, introduced to our sled team--twelve dogs in all. We got to spend lots of time with each dog, and most were really playful, and chomping at the bit to get sledding. Our guide took the time to show us all the maneuvers on the sled and how to adjust the ropes, and off we went over the beautiful glacier fields. We also got to talk to Sebastian, the proprietor of the kennels, and it is clear how much he loves the dogs, and how much they love him. The price is worth the scenery alone. Save up for this one and skip the ones where do they "sled rides" in wagons.

Autumn clearly has a passion for whales and gave us enough education to fuel our fire for the animals. Also to mention the wonderful salmon bake! Fresh fish and live music with covered seating and a creekside view. The short hike to the waterfall was fun too! Special shout out to our wonderful bus driver too! She drives the "sunshine" bus and while her name escapes me, her impression does not! She pointed out an eagle's nest, told stories of the legendary wolf Romeo, and gave us a quick but detailed history of the town. Bonus that she's from our neck of the woods!

Issue: i understand the weight balance but my four year old was placed on the outside and it made for a nerve racking trip for me holding on to him for dear life! My issue- our tour guide. Nice and strong but I couldn't understand anything he was telling us because I was in the front and he has a very very thick accent. I feel like my oldest did not get the experience I hoped for because of the language barrier. Aka she didnt learn anything. Overall, it's beautiful and fun. But cold. We did get wet. The hike up the neighborhood streets to get to the trailhead feels harder than the hike itself clocked in at just over an hour, 1.65 mi, ~1400' elevation gain.

Not sure how long or big this trail is we took it up to the cross on top the way up was nice , smooth not too crazy with the climbs. Trail is decent, this time it was a bit muddy but over all not bad. Best part of course are the amazing views, we were lucky to have a decent day yes it was cloudy & did sprinkle a bit but it also cleared up & the views once that fog moves over were very nice. Got to see some wildlife as well , this was a good way to spend a few hours, taking the tram up, nice little hike & then back down on the tram.

This time, we booked an excursion that not only went here, but to a hatchery and glacier gardens. This was our last stop on our excursion and our allotted time here was extremely limited. We did the 1 mile hike to the falls, speed walking the entire way. The trail was mostly flat and people of all ages could easily walk it. We also were able to do another short hike to a photo point where you can see both Mendenhall glacier and Nugget falls. If you're on a cruise, and want to have several experiences at one port, I recommend booking a combo tour such as this. The only downside is the time constraints.

The path there was mostly flat and is a pretty easy hike for inexperienced hikers. It can get crowded on days the cruise ships dock, but it's a must see
