Luckily I heard of this place. Situated near Llandberis and down a long windy 5 mph road is this gorgeous farm house. Strangely enough their website is poor..yes we know it's a place to stay..but did you know that anyone can pay £8 to use the sauna and pool? Or even better £19.95 to use the pool, sauna AND enjoy a two course meal after? So we arrived around 11am while the kids were off school and was greeted by the lovely receptionist who id spoken to via the phone previously. After checking in, we were provided towels and directions how to reach the pool. The changing rooms were TINY..one small cubicle, a sink and a fold down baby chance unit..stalk like I had to balance on one leg to undress while trying to remove my knickers..without dropping my clothes on the sodden floor!! Annoyance cast aside we went to the sauna while the pool quietened down . Both sauna and pool were not the largest but did the job. After RE dressing we walked into the restaurant where we were informed it was busy. Graciously a waiter led us to a quiet conservatory where we could eat privately. The menu consisted of veggie risottos, steaks, seafood and other posh pub grub. We all chose the eggs Benedict with smoked haddock for starters, for mains I had the seafood tagliatelle , while my mom and sis chose the fish and chips. The starter arrived promptly, well seasoned cooked and perfect presentation...but we were left for awhile afterwards , no one checked about our situation or our meal.. Mains arrived in good proportion, however mine was very weighed down with mayonnaise like sauce..the girls enjoyed their hand cooked chips and lightly battered fish . Overall for £20 each for a swim, sauna, and two course meal I find this ideal. But why not advertise this on their website?? Also they need to increase their changing room size..and slightly modernise it all.

In general the building seems well maintained, but some of the public areas were being patched and re-painted whilst I was there. My room was spacious and comfortable with free DVD movie rental which is a nice touch. The cooked breakfast was better than most, although 3 staff members were chatting loudly by the entrance which is unacceptable at the level they are trying to pitch, although the rest of the time they were generally very good. Bar snacks are good, but the food and drinks are relatively expensive: expect dinner in the restaurant to cost £30+ per head. Overall though I'd return: especially if I wanted a quiet nice weekend away with a friend. It is a lovely quiet, calm rural location.

We were warmly greeted at the door...our luggage was swept away and we were promptly shown to our rooms! We stayed in the main house which had many little sitting rooms to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of tea! The gardens are extensive and beautiful...there was so much to explore. Rose gardens, dahlia gardens, herb gardens, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, croquet lawns, stone walls, cottages, wrought iron gates, arched door ways each one leading to something new to please the eye! After walking through the formal gardens we took a path through the trees. This lead us to an opening that had an unobstructed view of Conwy Castle...stunning! I loved that they kept all of the historical charm and added modern amenities! We had a comfortable stay and were lacking nothing! Dinner in the dining room was one of the highlights to our whole trip through the UK! The food was amazing, the service top-notch and the setting beautifully formal yet comfortable enough for us to thoroughly enjoy each other's company! Was so neat to have walked through the herb gardens that provided such amazing flavours to the food that was served! This was the only night spent in the beautiful country of Wales as we were travelling through to Ireland the next day! We wished we could have stayed a few days longer but it will be a sweet memory of a beautiful Estate Manor! We dream of going back for a family Christmas or New Year's Eve celebration!

I stayed in the main home which resembles a castle with all it's nooks, hidden halls, tapestries and dark wooden fixtures. Lots of comfy libraries, reading areas, tea rooms, bar areas, .... to explore and enjoy. My room was comfortable with an oversized mattress, vanity and writing area. The bathroom is small but efficient. The windows overlook fields of sheep which "baaaa" throughout the night. To some this might be an annoyance but I thought it added depth to the overall experience. (For anyone visiting this place, you must remember this is a historic home and will not meet all your modern day standards of comfort. How can it, if is wants to stay true to its history.) Cottages are also available to stay on the many acres of land. Barns, Dairies, Granaries etc were converted into charming cottages with small kitchens, living rooms and resting areas. Outstanding gardens, walking paths, and fields are located on property and if you get tired exploring, there is a fantastic spa along with hot tubs, saunas, and an oversized, indoor, heated pool for all guests to use during their stay.

The bathroom was well equipped with a good choice of bathing products (just in case you forgot your own). We only booked short notice, so the cottage was not available on the last night, so we switched to the B&B. The room was large and the equipped with the usual : Sky TV, Tea Making, etc. The beds were comfortable. The owners , Tim & Kerry are very friendly and Tim cooks a fab English Breakfast! Will definitely be returning next time we visit North Wales.

It's a family-owned and managed bed and breakfast and i swear if i'm ever lucky enough to return to Wales, I'm staying here again. I was on a 2-week long trip to Europe and going all over the place and had a huge suitcase with me and i didn't know there was no elevator. I have a bunch of herniated discs in my neck and lower back so I'd asked if anyone could help me with the suitcase and his young daughter said that she'd take care of it for me and i looked and her and said oh gosh no, let's do it together! but then her dad came by and did it himself and insisted on it and not taking a tip and i felt so horrid but so grateful. they also helped with directions and suggestions on where to go and what to see. i didn't have breakfast there but they have a beautiful breakfast area and people there were enjoying their Welsh b'fast. i grabbed some juice and was off to explore this phenomenal and unbelievably friendly town of Llandudno. The room was super clean, the bed was super comfortable, the tv had a million channels including American ones, but who's watching American tv in Wales? not me! the bathroom was excellent. great water pressure, abundance of hot water, the shower area might be small for an american dude but it was perfect for me. the day i left i had to catch an early train to london and the owner's son was SO kind and woke up at 5A.M. just to help me lug that damn suitcase downstairs. WHO DOES THAT???? i insisted on tipping and thanked him profusely. and in case you're wondering, that suitcase finally died in London and i bought a smaller suitcase to fly home with. so don't worry guys, next time i'll handle my suitcase myself ;)

There is no parking, as advertised and I didn't think it would be as much of a problem as it was. In the end only parked 5-10 minute walk away and it was free. The outside of this place is one of the best in Llandudno let alone the street. It looks like it should be some where warmer, there are palm trees and everything is a sandy colour. The room itself is on the top floor, there were sloping ceilings and a very dark corner of the room but it is well decorated as is the bathroom. There is a bath with a shower attachment which cannot be mounted to the wall because of the low ceilings. The bathroom itself is large and airy with good lighting. The only pet peeve I have is it is fitted with a saniflow pipe system, this is when there is a box plumbed into the toilet and all pipes from bath and sink go directly into it and it pumps water out of that part of the house; usually used when there is no existing plumbing. The noise, oh the noise. I'm surprised we didn't have complaints when both of you want a bath and the water has to drain through that motor. The breakfast room was beautifully decorated with bay windows and a filling again like you should be abroad somewhere, the food was delicious and the portions good considering that it was free. Staff were friendly and courteous. I would stay again, but would think hard about it in the busy times for parking. I would also request a room on the lower floors.

For £99 for two we had full use of the gym, pool sauna, steam room, hydrotherapy pool, selected spa treatments and a light bite. Walking from Deganwy train station we soon found this and entered a large reception..she gestured that the spa was down the hallway.. the spa was decorated lovely and the bathrooms had everything you could possibly need. At the counter I stood there for ages, until I spotted a sign signalling for us to head upstairs. There we were handed a sheet to fill in for what treatments we wanted for our 15:00 booking. Before a masseuse could get their hands on us we decided to take advantage of the pool and sauna. the changing room were spacious, offering neat facilities like a swimming costume dryer, hair dryers and plentiful showers and lockers. The swimming area was framed by sun bed loungers overlooking the hydro therapy pool ( a blast of water would pummel you every 8 minutes), a standard pool, wet sauna and a dry sauna. This was a great place to actually meet people! Swimming done, we dried off and got ready for our massage. I had specified my achey areas and my mum had asked for advice on a facial. We lay seated in the chill out room which was dimly lit with fairy lights, soothing music and comfy loungers. We were called in by a therapist who asked me vital questions like had I had a massage before and tested various oils on my skin to ensure I had no allergic reactions. My mum lay beside me opposite me, and I have to say both masseuse were highly attentive and soothed areas I could not imagine. After 50 minutes of bliss we were given a sorbet and led back to the chill out room. The free steak sandwich deal afterwards was pleasant however my mum found a large hair in hers! I would not have paid the £15 quid for it, but as it was free and starving we were uncertain what to do. The waiter service was good but it lacked atmosphere .. Overall, we came here for the spa which I have to say was brilliant so if you are in the area give it a go, and check out the French restaurant opposite the train station on the way back!!

I actually spent my fortieth birthday there on a slightly strange course from which I learned nothing but at least I got a day out of the office and a nice lunch. I've just recently been back as my brother-in-law and his fiance chose the hotel as their wedding venue. They do the complete wedding package in-house so the ceremony, wedding breakfast and night do all took place in the hotel. The grounds are ideal for wedding photos and there is a nice outdoor patio, not too far from the bar, which is a great location to sit around and chat while the photos are being taken. If the weather isn't good enough there's a bright and warm conservatory adjacent to the patio. The food at the wedding breakfast was very good, duck parfait as a starter, roast chicken with boulangere potatoes and veg for the main course and a rich chocolate cheesecake with caramalised bananas for dessert. Everything was well cooked and tasty. Service was very efficient with courses been served quickly but without any feeling of being rushed. The evening buffet consisted of cooked meats, quiches and pasta and rice salads and again was very tasty and a step above those hotels that rely on the freezers in Iceland for their buffet menu. All in all a very well organised and enjoyable day. I can't really comment on the accommodation, although I did get a quick look at the bridal suite (and I assume that not every room has a jacuzzi the bedroom!), but as a conference/training or wedding venue you can't go too far wrong with the Oriel House. The only minor quibble we had was that there was no facility to pay by card at the bar, we had to leave a card behind the bar and set up a tab, but we would have preferred to pay as we went.

Our stay at Castlebank was the highlight of our trip.
