I've stayed at the Sonoran Desert Inn several times for retreats and each stay has been a treat…read more I won't lie, I was a little traumatized when I noticed there were no TVs in the rooms the first time I stayed there lol but being forced to unplug was actually wonderful. The setting itself is really lovely; an old school with an interior courtyard, turned into simple but warm rooms to stay at. Every time the rooms have been impeccably clean and I love that you just use a code to get in and out. The javelina pillow on the bed is also so comforting and cute! The gift shop is fantastic if you want to support local makers and get some unique gifts for yourself or others, many with a strong emphasis on the Sonoran Desert. Every gift I've purchased here has been a huge hit with the recipients. And the staff? Lovely. All of them are friendly and attentive, even the 4-legged one! These folks genuinely seem to enjoy where they work and get along with their coworkers. The one hit or miss with this place is the food. I've had some great meals and I've had some lackluster ones. But I appreciate the complimentary daily brewed coffee from Curley's from 7-11am (I think those are the hours!). And if you prefer something a little fancier, then visit Curley's, a 2 minute walk around the corner, and while you're there, treat yourself to one of their delicious pastries.

This is such a unique place to stay. A converted elementary school, I'm sure it's not for everyone…read more I love the courtyard and the pop-up meals in the cafeteria. Curley's coffee is phenomenal! Ajo is such an interesting town and this place is perfect.

I enjoy shopping here, prices and most items are comparable to what you find in the US. With lots…read moreof the same brands you're used to but not all items are brands you'll recognize. The store is smaller then most US locations but it has a good mix of items .. bakery, alcohol, frozen treats, meats, milk, coffee, cleaning supplies, toiletries, furniture, office supplies, housewares & clothing. They do not have the same return policies as in the US so ask prior to buying, clothing can't be returned. You can't use your Sams Credit Card at this location, the cashier said to call, not sure if you need another card or some how authorize use in Mexico. You can pay in dollars (US coins not accepted) or pesos. They do not have empty cardboard boxes or bags at checkout so bring your own. Customer service will vary with every visit, some cashiers are very helpful while others don't even greet you they just wave you over. It might be the language barrier but I speak Spanish & have found it doesn't matter.

Came to grab a quick lunch at their food court, only one worker so our food took over 20min we…read moreordered a chapata which is like a subway(without veggies) only ham, pepperoni, & cheese, not made fresh but frozen then worker microwaved it was not good, the fountain drink only had 3 options orange soda, Lipton or Jamaica and the ice machine had no ice when ask for ice worker said they were completely out of ice...I wouldn't come to their food court again I would come to Sam's just to buy ice for ice chest a 20lb bag of ice cost $2.09 US dollars or about $39 pesos I suggest paying with pesos because they don't take US coins only bills so they would charge you $3.00 US dollars ‍
