Dr Pelikan is an all star fantastic doctor. Smart and compassionate. One of the best ive ever known. The office in St. Charles has awesome staff. The hazelwood office is a hot mess at best filled with angry, rude unhelpful office staff. The office manager is among the worst and refuses to recognize how abrasive, rude, unprofessional and hateful her staff can be. I have had to ask them to not let one of the nurses anywhere near my care team or medical info. She uses a nickname and without knowing her full name, you can't file a complaint with the Profesional regulatory agency for r nurses. While the doctor himself has been great, Esse's office and receptionists have been the worst I've EVER delt with! They're always rude, when you can reach them. Getting an appointment is nearly impossible unless you want to wait 2-6 weeks. And on to billing, what an indescribable fiasco, the "front office" manager will reject an appointment request if your outstanding bill exceeds $200, even if you've been making agree-upon payments. read more

My mom has been a patient of Esse Health for 20+ years. When she called concerned about her shortness of breath and chest tightness on Friday, after explaining she is still not better after 21 days, she was refused an in person visit and was told a nurse practitioner (Bethany) would see her Monday as a virtual visit. She did not feel like it was urgent enough to call 911, but was very worried and asked me to bring my stethoscope over after work to listen to her lungs. I sent her to urgent care for a chest X-ray to rule out pneumonia. The phone triage nurse and the nurse practitioner Bethany disregarded my mom's legitimate concerns, did not even recommend urgent care or the emergency room, or even send her over for a chest X-ray. It is impossible to assess lung sounds via telephone/computer screen. Their treatment of my mom was careless, unsafe and unprofessional. If I could give less than one star I would. read more

If I could provide an arctic -0 for this office, I would. Foremost, I absolutely LOVE my doctor for over 20 years, and I think it's a shame that the same cannot be said about the front office. Furthermore, I'm appalled to know that - if I were an elderly patient without the tenacity to follow-up the way I was able to, I'd possibly not get the medical care I desperately need. The office manager, a natalie weaver-simms, does NOT bother to return repeated phone calls. Excuse me, but without patients, YOU ma'am, would not have this type of job. I have had the unpleasant experience of having to deal with this person twice - if you don't have the tolerance to deal with people - then try another career. In essence, the office repeatedly denied my appointment due to an outstanding balance that was THEIR FAULT. They had my name spelled incorrectly, and did not have the decency to apologize for their error. I have reached out to corporate, and I will be relentless until they also reply. I have the utmost respect for over-worked healthcare workers that deal with the public and try to remain professional and sympathetic. However, there are bad apples in any barrel, and some of the office staff at this location lack are rotten. 100% terrible. I never even got to see Dr. Erin Fick. They wanted me to fill out typical intake paperwork. It seemed like an excessive amount and the front page had questions about LGBTQ identities using outdated terminology, creating a bad impression. I am disabled and suffer chronic hand pain so the paperwork would have been extremely painful if not impossible. I signed the form so they would get my medical records from my previous doctor and anything else that needed an actual signature. In the room I had a brief polite exchange with the MA about the forms. I said she would soon have my entire record. She said one minute and left. Another woman came in and told me to leave and they were not willing to have me as a patient. I explained my disability. She said I had to leave. I asked if I could verbally provide the information. She said no, leave, Dr. Fick doesn't allow this. I asked if I could fill out the forms despite the pain. She said no because I was rude to the MA. I was NOT rude to the MA. I just wasn't compliant. There was no argument even. Once she saw I didn't fill out the forms and I said she would receive my whole record, she simply left. This was ridiculous. I don't know Dr. Fick but the ableist staff in her office mistreated me in her name. It's pathetic that a place devoted to health care can't and won't accommodate a disability. read more
