So this past month while on a fishing trip up in Northern Minnesota there was an unfortunate…read moreaccident where I needed to go to the ER in Grand Rapids MN. This review is about the ER and not getting into all the gory details. Upon entering the ER (thank goodness it was not busy) I was impressed at how pleasant and caring the admitting nurse was. Taking my information and insurance all the time showing care and compassion. It wasn't but a few minutes before I was in a room with a couple more nurses taking more info and accessing the problem. They were wonderful. Soon after that I was seen by the ER doctor and told we'll get you fixed up and back on the lake fishing in no time. He had his intern come in and together they decided what needed to be done. She was fantastic. (I'm so mad I didn't get her name) Telling me what was going to happen every step of the way. The most painful part was the Lidocaine shots. Ouch! While I didn't scream, she did say you can hear most patients yelling all the way in the waiting room! So while she was sewing up my arm my buddies told her I was a professional fisherman (not true lol) and that I wanted the stitches in the shape of a fish! Lol. We had her in stitches (lol, pun intended). But when she asked how this happened, I told her the guys were trying to knock me outta the fishing competition! (Lol again not true). She had me sewn up, patched up and out the door as good as new. An absolutely wonderful experience for a bad situation. While I hope no one ever needs to go to the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital ER, know that you will be well taken care of. I couldn't really take a lot of photos due to rules and regulations.

I felt that I needed to take time out to post a recognition for an RT named Miles; he gave the most outstanding care and bed side manner to my mom - It's so rare to have such hospitality and comfort in an unfamiliar environment. I pray not; but If she ever ends up back in this hospital- I hope that he is present.

Out of everyone who has helped my father it has truly been these ladies in this department. They make sheets of vitals and communicate to the doctors and even make appointments. I feel comfortable while you are helping my dad with his work outs. Thank you ladies. For the rest of the place, I would not recommend it to absolutely anyone! My father has heart failure, he has had 3 angiograms since February and got stents placed. He's had a heart attack. Now he is getting a pacemaker. We unfortunately have had to rely on Grand Itasca for most of his care because of the distance factor. Got a call from Cardiology and Kristina Conner had to reschedule his appointment. The day of the new appointment they called and requested we came in earlier and if we didn't the appointment would be canceled all together because she has something else to do. Shouldn't others who have an appointment take priority..? So we took the appointment even though we had other things planned prior but they didn't really give us an option. The appointment was intended to be longer so we could learn what was going on. Basically she didn't explain anything about the heart failure and we were just as lost as we were walking in. Prescribed medications that were far too expensive and before we could ask our questions she was checked out and ready to go. I emailed her and it definitely took longer than the "72 hour reply" rule they have in place and no it wasn't over the weekend and it wasn't even her responding nor did the questions even ever get answered. Tanna D., The Admission Financial Representative has been on her personal cell phone each time I have approached the desk in our last 3 visits to the emergency room. She doesn't care about the patients needs at all and she would rather be involved in drama. She TELLS you things and you can tell her the truth and correct her then she denies what you're saying. She stated "your dog is a therapy dog for your anxiety and he cannot come in". I told her "he's a service dog, clearly labeled "Service Dog In Training" and he is for my PTSD and Panic Disorder". She literally said "no he's not, he's a therapy dog for your anxiety". WHAT?!?! You can't tell people things when you don't know the answer and you have to listen to people when they tell you actual facts? Did you spend money on his training and do all of the work? No. I was freaking out because my dad was having a heart attack and she made the situation SO much worse. Even if she said he couldn't come in she could have been kinder considering the situation at hand and maybe asked if I was alright. Training service animals have all the right to be there as much as any person does. Jared A., The Security Guard is all high and mighty like he's better than you. Puffing up his chest and having his hands in his vest making it very uncomfortable to be around him. Seriously triggering that he talks down to you. My father was literally having a heart attack and he wanted to print something off and come give it to me and it didn't pertain to anything about my dad. LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE WHEN THEY'VE DONE NOTHING WRONG AND THEIR LOVED ONE IS IN THE ER HAVING A HEART ATTACK. He was not right, I read the paperwork, so it made no difference in what he was trying to say. I just can't believe he was following me around like a puppy just to make a point when I just wanted to see my dad at which could have been last moments with him. It was very sickening how he handled this situation and should not be the one handling people with how aggressive and unknowledgeable he is. July 7th at the ER they placed him in a waiting area for the ambulance to come pick him up. He had a BP 171/83 and a heart rate of 58 and I pushed the button to call the nurse and she said she would turn the machine off to make it stop beeping and that he's fine. Didn't even come in the room to check on him.
