The regulars in the bar area kept trying to get in our party, and congregated outside the door. They were threatening out guests, and even threatened me. When the managers were informed, they did little to help, and my guests had to stand on the door as security. What an absolute joke, nothing but a drug hole, which completely ruins the night.

The alcohol is unbelievably cheap and came in around half to 3/4's the price I would normally pay on a night out! I was let in early to move the tables around, decorate and bring in the food. To hire the room only cost around £50 and it was a fairly big room with a dance floor, bar and we also hired out a live band to play as there is a stage. The bar closed at midnight and we had to be out an hour after that, we had to clean the majority of the rubbish away which is fair enough but they did not mind you leaving the black bags there. I have not gone since but my parents (early 60's) go every week or so and they continue to enjoy it as they have live bands and bingo on throughout the week and weekend.

They run a number of evening events such as line dancing etc, the bar offers very good value for money and this is what makes it a popular choice for parties. They can provide a buffet for an extra cost and you can organise your own DJ or live music, its a great little place with its own car park but is well within walking distance of the centre of Shifnal so is easy to get to.

When we lived in Kingstanding we'd often pop along to the Royal British Legion on College Road…read more It's always been a friendly social club with a nice mix of people so we knew we'd bump into someone we knew, and even if we didn't the regular members are quite happy to have a chat. It's a members club, you can either join for the year or pay 50p admission on the door. We just used to pay the fee whenever we went down, but thinking about it now I reckon we'd have saved a packet if my fella had joined and just signed me in as a guest each time. There's a large car park and the Royal British Legion have recently built some rather nice smoking huts outside complete with benches so on a warm day you can just sit outside rather than popping in and out whenever you want a fag. Inside the club is on two levels with a large seating area downstairs and a snooker room upstairs with two full size tables. You can borrow snooker cues but they are not much cop so most regulars bring their own, there are spaces to lock up your personal cues upstairs and all you need to supply is a padlock. There is a small bar upstairs in the snooker room but it's not open very often so you have to go downstairs for your drinks and carry them back up, I suppose this is not ideal if you have mobility problems but then I suspect the stairs would be too much to cope with anyway. Downstairs is comfortable and laid out like one large lounge rather than a bar, seating is plentiful although this place gets so busy on a weekend that there is sometimes still no room to sit down and you have to grab a seat when you can. This isn't a problem though and is testament to how popular this little social club is. Most of the regulars are older ex-servicemen and the majority are very friendly, don't be alarmed though as very few of them keep on about the war although some are kind of like Uncle Albert from Only Fools and Horses! You can buy a selection of sandwiches, as well as crisps from the Royal British Legion. The sandwiches are homemade before being wrapped in cling film and kept behind the bar so are not always fresh, I think common sense should tell you that if you visit at 8pm these cobs and sandwiches have probably been there all day so will not be at their best. I love their cheese and onion crusty cob which only costs about £1 and is delicious - even if they have no cobs on the day you visit there is an excellent chippy just over the road so grab yourself a meal and eat it at one of the benches on the car park! Sometimes the Royal British Legion will hold a special event which they charge to attend, in the Summer we went to the Family Funday with the kids and it was great. I think it was £1 per person but for that the kids spent literally hours on the bouncy castle and also had a burger and hot dog off the BBQ, there was balloon modelling and face painting too so they had a whale of a time. On a Saturday night there is sometimes a singer on, the girl we saw a few months back was fantastic. She was dressed in a cocktail dress and sang all the old tunes in such a wonderfully nostalgic voice - I saw several elderly people with tears in their eyes that night. To enter the main music venue you have to go around the back (oh-er missus!) and apparently there's a bar next door, that you enter around the front! We didn't visit this part of the bar so I can't comment on it. There's a good size car park at the back, and it's free! It's one of those places where EVERYTHING is sticky (make your own joke there!!) Not just the dance floor but the walls, tables, seats etc. So try not to stay in one place for too long. I guess it's a good excuse to get dancing! They didn't have lots of seats so some people braved sitting on the floor. They may still be there now, stuck forever... They have a great line up of music acts, from tribute bands to proper bands, across lots of different music genres! I went to the Dames of Darkness festival, which was a two day event consisting of 15 female-fronted metal/rock/goth bands from all over the world. Well worth the money. On the Saturday the mike was a bit squeaky (did it need greasing up?!) but the sound was absolutely fine on the Sunday. They serve food all day and was I assured their vegetarian burger was suitable for vegans, but I had my doubts after trying one on the Saturday. The chips were very nice though. On the Sunday I confused the woman behind the bar by asking for chips and a plain bun. I had to explain that I wanted to make myself a chip butty! My friends said the pizza was good, and people seemed to constantly have their lips around pizza and wraps so they must've been tasty! The bar staff were friendly, despite it being very busy. In my tip, I mentioned napkins. People seemed to be constantly walking passed with these stuck to the bottom of their boots, I found it rather amusing! The toilets are upstairs. The stairs are also sticky, making it seem like a mountain hike to get to the top! (there is a disabled toilet downstairs). The ladies toilets stayed fairly clean the whole day/evening and for some reason they reminded me of secondary school toilets. There's plenty of them and I never needed to queue. I'd definitely go back here. It's not an outstanding venue but if a band you like are playing then GO!

Some of the names that have played here are amazing. Then... they let me on the stage. What were they thinking? So, the sound was very good - tending to lean toward a "Rockier" sound due to the dimensions of the room. It is a little bit of a "sticky-floor" type venue, but without a doubt has plenty of guts and integrity in it's credentials. One point that I will speak of was the food that we were served. I am not sure if the band food is from a menu that is on offer at The Robin, but it was first-class and home cooked. I went for the lamb shank and it was fantastic. All in all a great venue with some brilliant acts on the roster. I will look forward to returning whether it be onstage or off.
