The location of…read morethis restaurant is very convenient if you're in the Polanco neighborhood, which was why we chose it (sheer laziness), but it turned out to be a great choice overall. Cambalache is an Argentine steakhouse, which is reflected in the style of grilling their meats (over an open flame, which can be viewed at the back of the restaurant), and the service of the meat itself (a La plancha, at the table). We chose the ribeye (600-700g) to share. It was perfectly cooked to medium temperature, and sliced for us tableside. A beautiful cut of meat, and very flavorful. The side dishes were tasty, too (the soufflé potatoes are a signature, and they're fun to try/share). Speaking of tableside prep, I highly recommend saving room for the strawberries Romanoff - our server spent about 20 minutes whipping a combination of vanilla Haagen Dazs, Grand Marnier, cream, and fresh-sliced strawberries into a fluffy concoction that was divinely yummy. Our youngest diner insisted on coming back to Cambalache a second time, a week later, just to have it again. It's not on the regular postre menu, so be sure to ask your server about it.

A very unpleasant experience, I came to this restaurant, the environment is okay, the waiter recommended me ribs, not the traditional meaning of steak, all have 6 big black bones, at this moment, I feel like an animal, the ribs are hard to gnaw and chew. Not for romantic couples. The worst part was that the ribs were too burnt and badly grilled. There was some black carbon on the surface of the bone and it felt like I was eating ashes. I already reacted to the waiter, Mass Fuego, comidasido. After eating it, I went to the restroom to get diarrhea myself before I even went to check out.

I ordered the grilled octopus with rosemary potatoes. Everything was delicious. The potatoes were…read moreslightly dry and could have been cooked a little longer. Nevertheless, I ate everything on my plate. Also, we ordered meat empanada and corn empanada---both are delicious. Prices are a little steep $40 USD for 2. Temperature of the food could have been warmer/hotter. Nothing came out piping hot. My favorite was actually the chimichurri made with spinach, cilantro, oregano, garlic etc. The salsa was too "pica" for me. Sesame sticks (served with bread) have that awesome 'crunch' I like so much. I poured the chimichurri on the grilled octopus ---that hit the spot! Also, those who are checking in on Yelp! should beware that this restaurant will NOT honor the Yelp 15% discount. We showed the waiter and the manager the yelp offer. Both are unaware of the offer. EVEN if you show them the yelp offer, they refuse to honor any discount!!!! We tried to argue with them. The manager first told us he would honor the offer, then 5 minutes later he came back to our table to tell us that he would not honor it after we had already ordered. The restaurant isn't very accommodating. I appreciated the quietness of the ambiance. I got tired of going to other restaurants where it was so loud with a dozen kids screaming and running around along with loud music. They don't speak much English. So it helps to speak Spanish or have someone with you who is fluent. The menus are 100% Spanish as they don't offer an English version. Come if you want a quiet place, don't mind spending a bit more, and don't mind paying full price. The food quality is very good and fresh. grilled meats are their signature items.
