It seems simple, however, this is not the case with all estate sale companies. They have a good, positive attitude. We attend Emerald sales at least 2 weekends a month and shopping with them is fun and fair. Emerald is considered a favorite by most resellers and regular estate sale customers. They conduct most of the very large mansion sales in McClean and other affluent areas. Inventory is displayed beautifully and in a way that makes it easy for everyone to shop in an organized manner. Sales are run well BUT after two a few wasted time weeks of discussions & near to no help I cancelled a contract with Kathy to hold a sale. TL;DR Poor up-front communications, hiding the fact that they went on vacation while our auction…read morewas active, suboptimal policies only on our auction it seemed (red letters on our auction, unlike others, saying things like DO NOT BID IF YOU CANNOT COME DURING THIS WINDOW OF TIME), over-promising and under-delivering, once auction started they stopped communicating altogether and just sent the payout and moved on. They also listed items that were literally part of the house, which we luckily got them to remove in time. The positives: I will mention they did it at short notice, and they waved the $3500 fee to do an online auction. They combined our auction with other auctions to increase the bulk of the auction. Those things we appreciated. And, in person, his wife was nice and I tried to keep things moving to respect her time. But, the actual sale execution had some flaws. The situation: Needed to clear out an estate to sell a house, but was left with too much furniture. Most of the other stuff got donated (and was literally trash). Many other estate-sale people turned us down. The experience started when we discovered "ezAuctions" was out of business. Then our agent mentioned "ezDownsizing" .. In this estate there was a $20000 bedroom set (retail, 1980s, vintage Ralph Lauren), where just one of the pieces had recently sold on ebay for $8000. Most of the other stuff we knew was not that valuable. I was very skeptical. Guy on the phone who called us back (Clay? Brian? No idea...he was The Husband) .. very pushy, said we had only 1 day to "fit it in", and also said exactly what we wanted to hear. "You've got an auction with $6000-8000 dollars easy, maybe even up to $12000 but I don't like giving numbers" ... well, he was way off. The entire auction netted $4k, and we got 60% of that, minus some odd fees that they tacked on that had to do with "no sale items" which I still to this day do not know what we paid for but it added up to another $108 we owed them. His wife arrived and asked us "not to be there" when they took pictures. I get it, people probably tell meaningless stories about the items. It's probably super annoying. Still, it meant they made mistakes by listing parts of the house that were not to be sold at auction, like the whole house central vacuum, and light fixtures. Probable reasons it didn't do well: house was far away from any nearby town and had a Friday afternoon 2 hour window for pickup. This was a bad oversight. Needed a Saturday pickup window. Also, they went on vacation while doing the auction. They stopped responding to our texts and messages. If you just want stuff "gone gone gone" this is a company that will do that for you. If you want to get some value out of it, consider other options. I had been given a 50% off rental for a truck and should have driven it to Everything-But-The-House in Columbus, where the auctions are taken care of in a warehouse and the commissions are way less. (its a sliding scale where higher priced items have less commission!) 40% commission across the board: meaning on anything that sells for more than $1. And yeah, things sold for $1. There's no way to do "reserve" In Pittsburgh, there is a similar service called Hostettlers Auctions (or something like that). I think they use the exact same software. One thing about the Pittsburgh auction house (unrelated company) is that in the fine print they say they actually bid-up on items that are not selling for much. For example I bought through them 10 radios and in the last moments they "bid up" the radios to get more value out of me. I didn't love that they did that, but now that I've been on the other side, I would have appreciated it if they had that sort of service. I had put some stuff into the sale as well, and after I gave them $4000 worth of functional equipment and got $125, I regretted it. I should have also taken my stuff to Columbus instead of to them. What a waste. Even though I explained everything worked and came with spare parts to replace everything that could possibly break in my 3D printing lot, for whatever reason they wrote "UNTESTED MAY NOT WORK" on my auction listings and there was nothing I could do or say to stop it. Just some tidbits: $1200 worth of Snapper XD pro-grade lawn care equipment sold for $17 $2000 worth of 3D printing equipment sold for $200 $20000 Ralph Lauren Safari 3-piece bedroom set sold for slightly less than $2500 (mahogany matching bed, wardrobe, 21-drawer chest) $3600 curved glass antique vintage tiger maple china cabinet sold for $131 .. I had removed the shelves and for some reason they wrote on the listing "May have to take back off to put shelves back in" but that's definitely not the case. Again, no way to correct it. May have affected sale.

The owners, as well as the staff, have been incredibly friendly and kind to us. The items are priced fairly and on occasion they will be willing to work with you (depends on the item and the day). We usually go the first day to buy our must haves and then come back on the last day for deeper discounts. I realize its a difficult job, however, everyone on the staff have been so kind to us. They always say thank you for your business when we leave. Because they are all so positive, we come back week after week. Not all estate sales companies are like this, so we appreciate them, too. I know other regular estate sale shoppers attend their sales consistently due to their professionalism. Thank you to the team for making estate sales enjoyable and affordable.

I went to one of their estate sales today all the way north and no body acknowledged me when I…read morewalked into the home. No biggie they all looked busy since it was the last day in the last two hours of the estate sale. I had to ask for help the two times I had questions and only the young girl answered me. Definitely not the rude male that was taking payment in the living room. I found an item (bread machine) in the kitchen for $20 (1/2 off since it was the last day so technically $10) and put it down in the holding area. Then looked in the basement. Among the rubble of frames, some broken and some not, that was being discarded I found three framed 1992 pictures of flowers on a pink background. I thought they matched and they looked cute. So I grabbed them. I took them upstairs and went to pay. Someone had just paid and I put my heavy items in front of the rude male. It looked like he already had an attitude. But I stated I was ready to pay. The frames had no price but the bread machine did. So this rude male made up a number of $40, and at half that would be $20. I was dumbfounded since the big bread machine was $20 so why would three measly frames be $20. It was not mathing. So I asked why is it that much if they weren't displayed but were on the floor among the broken pieces. In turn he said. They're all different prices. Mind you it didn't even have a price. So he just made up a number out of thin air. I tried to reason with him and ask for a lower price. But because, according to him, I didn't say please, I was not haggling and therefore the price was firm. Keep in mind it was the last day in the last hour and they needed to sell items. So he then yelled and slammed his hand on the bread machine and yelled at me to take it or leave it. I replied to not yell at me. He then started berating me and egging me on trying to stay at $40. He came down to $15 total and I said. Fine. That works. So at 50% off that's $7.50. He said no. That's at the half price. I was again dumbfounded. And embarrassed that I was yelled at in front of the entire room of other customers. Not only did the rude male yell at me but then the other employees took the items and put them elsewhere and he yelled at me to leave and he wouldn't sell me anything. All because I stood up for myself after he slammed his hand on the bread machine and yelled at me and I called him out for the rude behavior. He even tried arguing with me and egging me on with a back to back arguing match. Does he not like women? Does he not like people of color? Does he not like to work at the company? I'm not sure who the owner is but yelling at your customers is not the way to handle anything no matter how flustered an employee gets. If they cannot control their emotions they should not be working for the customer.

The invoice and the emails gave pickup dates but no address to pick it up. It also said I would be getting an email notifying me of the pickup address. I never received such email. I will add none of their emails went to my spam. I got all of them in my inbox, just none of them had the pickup address or specific times. When I emailed and inquired about why I wasn't getting the information I was met with a rude reply, quote "not our problem" in addition to more. Nothing a professional company should say to a customer. I will never deal with this company again

WOW!!!!! I literally had asked for clarification because I was thoroughly confused and she went off the deep end - then proceeded to hang up on me - TWICE! I called back in disbelief and a guy answered - I tried to apologize and explain to him - he gets super nasty telling me I'm bothering them and because I've called back three times now (she hung up on me twice at this point) that "you keeping me on the phone is costing me money and I don't know what you want or why you keep calling!" UNBELIEVABLE. APPARENTLY - they ONLY restore furniture but who in the heck knows - I couldn't even get what they actually did do out of either of them and both made it clear that "there's a virus out there," so CALL OR ENTER AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION. I'm more furious that I'm such a supporter of small local businesses and they acted this way. Oh btw - their location is like an abandoned run down hazard which is why I've passed by it many times and never thought it was open for business. I will never do business with them - whenever I find out exactly whatever it is they do.

Everyone in line commented about it. They had a signup sheet, but had apparently left it out over night, so when I got there very early, I was already number 13. Fair enough. And that's usually good enough to get into a first group. But waiting for each group of four to complete their shopping was too much to ask; I had already wasted enough time and gas to be there. I have seen a single person handle a sale in a packed house better. This house was not so full as to be impassable for a much larger group. Doubt me?
