Sintra is very much a tourism destination so you can expect taxis and tuk tuks waiting when you arrive. Or just walk and wing it like I did. The station has an automated ticket kiosk and terminal but hopefully, you bought a round trip when you left Lisbon so you don't have to deal with that. For my departure, I scanned my Viagem card, read the departure board and get on my train in less than a minute. But it's worth going inside the station, as it's beautifully covered in tiles and includes a tourist office. It also has a ticket office and a ticket machine. The people around us were too busy to help us. Finally, we went to the cafe to ask for help. The owner sold us a one day pass rather than a round trip pass... Since we had the more expensive pass (double the price rather than round trip tickets) we decided to make an extra stop at Belem to get our $$ worth. Then when we got back, we found these two tourist girls also struggling to buy their train tickets, so we gave them ours as we were trying to pay it forward. Glad the tickets can get more use. I do not think they were trying to rip us off, but there was a language barrier. We appreciated the help. Price - Bought a one day pass. I think we paid approximately $8 US for each ticket. On the green line, the next station is Baixa-Chiado towards Telheiras. The metro station is completely handicapped accessible with lifts and escalators between the street level and platform level. There are automated ticket vending machines for the metro. I was here to catch the ferry, which of course is at street level. Separate vending machines for ferry tickets and a clear display indicating not only how long until the next ferry departs, the gate (there are three gates) and what percentage full. Purchasing the ferry ticket was easy (only €1.80 including the €0.50 for a new Viagem card) and quick. I was able to buy my ticket at 16:35, scan it and still board the 16:40 ferry to Cacilhas. Tram 28 is one of the more touristy things to do when visiting Lisbon, the old 1930s-style trams…read morehave become a symbol of the city, and the route between Martim Moniz and Campo Ourique connects some of the city's most iconic neighbourhoods, like Alfama, Baixa, and Chiado. I rode the tram in both directions, the route is 7 km long and takes under an hour, obviously, this can be dependent on traffic. The trams are old and can get very full at the best of times, let alone peak service and rush hour, as tourists and commuters both use the service, so do plan ahead. When I ended up getting on the tram at Martim Moniz, there was a very long line and it took the fourth tram (they were all lined up one after another) to actually get on service, for my return journey, it became so uncomfortable due to the number of people standing and the constant stopping for traffic. (The trams can run on the same roads as the cars, so you're competing with road traffic as well as pedestrians and traffic lights). PRO TIP: Purchase a 24-hour transport pass from a Metro station, this allows you 24 hours of travel hopping on and off Lisbon's transport system, which means you can also use your ticket for Tram 28, which you use for the subway. If you don't have the ticket, you'll have to pay 3 euros cash on board for a one-way journey. If you're planning to travel in both directions, be prepared to disembark the tram and wait as all passengers must get off at the terminus station, and it's to the back of the queue if you want to reboard. The journey was pretty cool, it allowed me to see sights around the city. As you passed through Lisbon's hills and narrow streets, it allowed you to see a narrative of the city that you wouldn't get on the trams or the subway, you could see the tram being photographed by passers-by throughout the route. 4* - A great way to see so much of Lisbon in little time, and it works out excellent value with the 24-hour public transportation ticket, although do avoid using the service at peak times, as it just gets so busy and so uncomfortable, and I ended up having to depart the tram earlier than I would have liked on my return journey just to get some fresh air. On a personal milestone, this marks review number #4200 for me and is a nice way to mark the occasion.

The tram can get quite packed at times, however if you start early in the day it is a fun way to get around Lisbon and in some of the tight spots that a bus can't go. We've ended up riding 28E a couple of times to expedite moving around the city. We've found that 24E and 18E actually are better routes for most of the places/restaurants that we frequent. Riding the tram is a great way to see parts of Lisbon you might otherwise miss.

40 minutes or less from Lisbon's Cais do Sodré, this is the end (or the beginning) of the line. As…read moreterminal railway stations go, it's perfectly OK. There are multiple tracks and you might need to ask someone which is the next train to depart. Or you can just follow everyone who is boarding one or the other. If you miss it, there's another in 30 minutes (off peak) or 12 minutes (peak). But before that, you will need to purchase a ticket to scan at the turnstile. The machine has an "English" button and accepts cards, notes and coins. One-way fare is €2,30 and you should expect a conductor on board checking tickets. It is easy to find your way to the bus stop from here as there are signs and a tunnel. The 403 bus stops here for the ride to Cabo da Roca. Head out and to the left, stay on the sidewalk and follow the coastline to the Cidadela de Cascais or the Farol de Santa Marta. Beyond those, it is a 1.5 km walk to the Boca do Inferno but it's mostly smooth and handicapped accessible. Or you can wait for the M27 bus that goes the long way. The station has some snack shops and quick restaurants but you're also right into downtown, so there is much more nearby including all the tourist shops you can imagine. We booked the small group walking tour on our first morning in Lisbon so that we could get a better understanding of the city and the culture and the history. We were incredibly impressed by Daniel Ribeiro who was our tour guide. His knowledge was really impressive and we learned so much on our three hour plus tour. He took his time and seemed to really enjoy showing us all the city. And best of all, he gave us some fantastic recommendations that we used a lot for the rest of our trip. Next we wanted to explore Sintra and get out of the city for a day. So we also signed up for the day trip to Sintra and Cascais. This was a great way to get to see Sintra and Cascais with an additional stop to see the most western part of Europe. The day itself was a little cloudy but it was April in Portugal. The palace was still incredible and what made it so great was our guide Andres. Unlike more tours where they drop you off and say meet you back in an h our, Andres actually acts as your tour guide through the palace and his knowledge was just so helpful in making us understand the history of it all. It was very appreciated. At the meeting place at the start of the day, there were so many people going on this tour, but we were split up into much smaller groups of like 6 people and each assigned a tour guide. It was all very well organized.

We made five stops despite the rain and somewhat gloomy weather. The whole time, Ana was bubbly, personable and friendly. She clearly loves to tell visitors about the food culture of this part of Lisbon and I had a great time. We walked maybe 1.5 kilometers, slowly and with plenty of stops. Marmalada, bifana, codfish pastéis, chorizo, shrimp in garlic, cheese, bread and more. Port wine, ginjinha (with cherries!), beer, vinho verde and red wine. Lots of food, lots of drink. Very interesting and a great time! Tip: If you start with the Delta Air Lines shopping portal and then go to Viator, you'll earn bonus SkyMiles on your tour purchase! The suite welcome was wonderful with a taste of pastries including pasteis from Portugal. Loved the view of the city from the rooftop and from our balcony. I also enjoyed having a towel warmer in the bathroom and a nicer hair dryer. Walking distance to the whole city and several designers. We had an Aldi and several places to eat snacks right outside the door. Located between ysl and Gucci. Very short walk distance to Massimo dutti, mango and fly London. We had to get extra cute luggage from cavalinho store. Also visit the mundo de sardines to take home some giftable sardines. $6-$22 a pice but the store is a carnival. The night time chocolate was something I looked forward to. They did skip a night. One day the forgot the washcloths. Also to note the bathtubs in the nh hotels are too slippery and hard to get into the shower.

Front desk staff was professional even apologetic for not able to get me in the room right away and I was here early at 10:30 am trying to check in. I booked a standard room and got an upgrade to a suite and it was the first time I ever been to any of their properties!! I have been patronizing Starwoods for years and that never ever happen to me!! The room is just so spacious! Even has a pantry area!! Location is great as it is located right across from Metro Station and Aerobus stop. Numerous shops and cafes in the area. Walkable to the downtown tourist area and it was a comfortable walk going downhill. Thanks so much NH Liberdade for making my last night at Lisboa memorable.
