5 stars because I love trams and funiculars. 5 stars because it is a public monument of the republic. 5 stars because our AirBnB apartment window overlooked it. 5 stars because it took us down to where we could catch the 15E to go to Belem. 6 stars because it took us back UP the street to our abode. 50 meters up after a day of walking around. I know how to drive it. I just need to steal the 2 keys.

Place your Lisbon card as shown, and look for the green light (upper right)

It gets the job done. This is the ferry terminal for Almada, across the Tagus River from Lisbon. I…read morehad one arrival followed a few hours later by one departure. There are ticketing kiosks which is useful because my 24 hour pass from the Lisbon network didn't work here. Cheap enough for an 8 minute ride - less than €2 each way. They have clearly visible signs showing not only how long until the next ferry departs but also what percent full it is. Helpful info! There is a small convenience store and some other retail. The station was under major renovations when I was here in January 2022. Easy connection to the trams and buses which took me most of the way to the Christ statue. I returned with a walk along the waterfront after dinner at Ponto Final and that five star review is coming soon. Inside the waiting area, some seating and some vending machines. The "boarding" sound goes and everyone starts moving for the ferry. It's an easy walk for a shop that does this a dozen times a day back and forth across the river. Overall, as pleasant an experience as one can have on mass transit.

After walking for what seemed like an eternity down from the Cristo Rei statue and realizing that…read morethe Porto Final Restaurant was closed, I was happy to see that the ferry was at least running very reliably back and forth from Casilhas to Cais do Sodre. Inside the terminal in Casilhas we bought one way tickets and they were €1.30 per person. The trip across the river was fast and smooth, a perfect ending to our day of walking in Cascais and visiting the Cristo Rei statue.

I want to avoid the long queue at Estaçao São Bento in Porto and buy our tickets online from Porto to Tua. Cannot. Annoying. 02OCT2017 A 1:08 hour ride from Aveiro to Porto on an Urbano. €3.95 per person. Like a subway car. Crowded. Stops at almost every station. 29SEP2017 A very pleasant ride on a Regional from Coimbra to Aveiro. Decent seats. Stops at every station. €5.25 per person, 1 hour. 26SEP2017 We took the Alfa Pendular, second class, from Lisboa to Coimbra. I bought our tickets online, in advance, and got a discounted price. + On time. + Comfortable ride. + Decent seats. + Ticket verification was easy. E-tickets all the way! + Inexpensive at €8/person. 0 Wi-Fi, but weak. - Exterior of cars are covered in grime. - Interior fittings are worn. It appears they have done nothing since the carriages left the factory. - Roadbed has some rough spots. Needs maintenance.
