To enter it was $6 but they only accepted American express as far as credit cards go (so have some cash). The design rooms give a good description and idea of Puerto Rican design in the 50s. The whole museum shouldn't take more than 30 minutes and it's about a 15 minute walk to Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico. Not sure if there was parking but we ended up finding street parking relatively close.

I…read morewandered in here when I was walking around old San Juan taking photos in the area and a tropical rainstorm suddenly hit. I took refuge from the rain here but it was a great experience. The docent gave me a one on one tour and explained more about Doña Fela (who I only knew about from the parking garage of the same name) and her politics and role in founding the Head Start program. The whole tour also helped me understand more about Puerto Rican politics in general. Very convenitnlocation to drop in near El Convento and El Paseo del Morro.

The atmosphere is like no other and the love and pride for Puerto Rico is unmatched. The live music stages are set up on various streets, the food and alcohol are a plenty and the celebration is REAL! Wear your walking shoes because there is so much to see, hear, drink and eat. This year broke records of over 1million people in the streets of Old San Juan over the 4 days. It is a culture to embrace. I am so grateful, and happy, that I had a chance to experience this non-stop four day party in…read morewonderful Old San Juan, Puerto Rico last year. It was an experience my gal and I will never forget. It's basically four days and nights of their island version of Mardi Gras! While we were there the weather was absolutely perfect. Warm sunny days to explore, shop, walk the streets of pastel colored buildings and houses, visit historic sights, and do the touristy thing. Even paid a trip to the Bacardi rum distillery, and bartended a bit while enjoying some libations. Oh yeah! The eats? OMG - the Mofongo here is insanely good! So much delicious food. I am now a Mofongo addict. We had a chance to dine at many of the small cafes, and always tried to eat where the locals went. Then, awesome nights under the stars partying our asses off until midnight each evening. Even though we were surrounded on packed cobblestone streets with literally a hundred thousand other party animals each night, we loved it and never felt crowded in and stomped on. The people attending this festival were so friendly and respectful. Even when drinking and dancing to terrific DJ's, salsa bands, and numerous singers along the streets and plazas, if anyone bumped into us or stepped on our feet there was always an "excuse me" or "sorry buddy". Very warm, well behaved, and considerate people. The entertainment that performs at SanSe is top-notch. We did so much dancing that we slept so well when we plopped into bed afterwards. It was a fun way to get exhausted, then happily do it all over again the next day! The best part of the festival was wandering around, walking down some side street, and happening upon another party. Just some people playing instruments, the locals in lawn chairs, and breakout dancing in celebration. Anybody walking by was invited to join in. Loved it! Oh, and there were so many stands set up to try their street foods, and island cuisine mainstays. Bars were everywhere serving up ridiculously cheap beer and mixed drinks. Booze stands would pop up everywhere, including doorways to buildings were there should not be one. $2 beers. $3-5 large mixed drinks. It was easy on the wallet, and those drinks were not weak at all. I have to say, we felt pretty safe the whole time. The police force was out in full force, and they look like the types you don't mess around with. Very well organized event. We had booked this trip at last minute, as JetBlue had a getaway travel package that was hard to pass up. It was a no-brainer. Definitely, one of the best vacations we have ever been on. Hands down. Then, we all know what happened when hurricane Maria hit. Poor PR, and it's people, were destroyed. There is still widespread damage, a lot of the island has no power, and most services are not functional. Even to this day a year later. We hope and pray for PR, as we want to go back in support, and experience the culture, friendliness, and warmth that we were surrounded with. My heart goes out to the people there. Yes, we will party with you all again at San Sebastian. We can't wait to go back in the future and dance the nights away. Plus, I need my Mofongo! Long live SanSe!

Now I would recommend this place to my friends. The $5 ticket is too much for such a small place. However followed a guided tour (free), I spent more than one hour their to learn the history of sailing from Columbus to modern standards after the tragedy of the titanic. Also the collection of ship-in-bottle the walls of life-belts are wonderful. The people there are professional and very friendly. They also provided me other interesting places to go in PR.

This little museum is full of ship artifacts and the largest collection of life preservers in the…read moreworld (according to Guinness). For $5, the original collector of the artifacts or one of several employees will walk you around, giving you the history of each item (took us about 45 minutes). Items include a piece of the Titanic, letters from the king and queen of Spain, old Spanish coins, a ship-in-a-bottle collection, a few objects recovered from shipwrecks, and a variety of other items. It is also a welcome respite from the San Juan heat, with fully contained and highly effective air conditioning!

The art was both evocative and polarizing with exhibits about identity and the ever lasting effects of colonization. The lower level seemed to be mostly a student gallery. Carmen Justino, the gallery director, greeted us warmly and gave us an impromptu tour of the gallery and referred us to Ambiente Moderno so we could see their extensive inventory of original work by CImenza. Mostly modern art with some small folk art style pieces that are quite affordable ($30-$50). The gallery owner also directed us to a local furniture store, Ambiente Moderno, where more of the artists's works are displayed. The gallery itself is relatively small and I didn't love how many paintings were obscured by others that were leaning on the floor. There was also a man working on perhaps putting some of the art in crates in one corner of the gallery and this obstructed our view of some of the art. There are definitely more artworks than there is space in this gallery. The works at Ambiente Moderno are much better displayed, although it is a little strange to walk around a furniture store just to look at art. I'd recommend a stop if you're in the area. Ambiente Moderno is also close by.

Uniqueness: very unique! Handmade items always amaze me and this place surely holds that standard!
