Enjoyed my meal here. It's a Hare Krishna place, which means it's low-cost Indian-inspired food,…read morecooked for the masses and served buffet-style. Lots of curries and things like that. You pay one flat fee and it's all-you-can-eat. Govinda's is a bit more special than most Hare Krishna places, though, in that it's a little bit better quality and has way more of a range of options. It has one bar devoted to salads and their dressings (fresh green mixed salads, couscous salads, quinoa salads, etc.) and one bar devoted to hot foods (pasta, several types of curries, samosas and other fried snacks, and a sweet dessert). Govinda's is also one of the only vegetarian places in Surfers Paradise, and as it is 100% vegan, you don't have to worry about sneaky dairy or egg ingredients when you order. The downside of all this is it is more expensive than most Hare Krishna places -- the ones in other cities tend to be in the $9-12 range (even as low as $6.50 here in Melbourne). We paid $16.90 each here at Govinda's! We were hungry so it was worth it -- we filled our plates once at the salad bar, then went back and filled our plates again at the hot cooked food bar, and then finally a third time for dessert. Some of the options were better than others. I really loved the satay peanut sauce at the salad bar -- I drenched my quinoa salad and green salad in it. Delicious stuff. I also enjoyed the lentil curry, and the fried pakora was super yum. I wasn't as wild about the pasta -- it was very plain. But in general, everything was tasty. The dessert was halwa (semolina pudding with sweet sauce) -- not very pretty to look at, but tasty. If you don't want to spring for the all-you-can-eat, you can also order individual plates of things, but it didn't look like it was as good a value for your money. You can also order at an extra cost any desserts from their display case and any extra drinks as well. (Free tap water otherwise.) Service was a bit blunt as it often is in this type of place. But not too bad. Atmosphere-wise, very similar to lots of Hare Krishna places, although this one had very little religious messaging on the walls, very unobtrusive -- most people would never guess it was a Hare Krishna place. Nice enough seating and decor, and very clean. I loved all the colorful throw pillows against the benches. Definitely recommend if you're in Surfers looking for a healthy, filling meal that won't break the bank.

Burnt ! Successfully put my kids off of pizza. ( probably a good thing )…read more I am a bit fond of the occasional bit of charred food and flavours but this was black underneath and around the edges, Burnt it was and burnt garlic smells like a burnt tyres and tastes awful. I asked the server "does it not look a bit on the burnt side" and he replied "Thats not burnt, its just the way it's cooked" I almost laughed especially as I have been eating pizza for over 40 years and this chap was about 18 years old. I will give it another try in 5 years maybe in that time they figure out the difference between charred and charcoal. In the meantime avoid if you like your food without charcoal.

Delicious. Delicious. Delicious…read more Milk&Honey was recommended to us by a friend who grew up in the area. I think it is byron shires' best kept secret. Admittedly I have never been to Italy but this was definitely the best pizza I have ever had of my life. I would like to mention that I have been a dedicated Friday night pizza eater for many years now and when we go out to dinner, pizza is a always a strong contender (even though it feels like sacrilege to not have it on a Friday) and thought I had found the perfect pizza. Until now. I again broke my Friday night pizza ritual and was not disappointed. We had the margarita (with olives because. Olives.) and the pumpkin with ricotta. I preferred the margarita more, simply because that tomato sauce was the kind of flavour that gives your mouth all the right feels. ALL OF THEM. More importantly the base was perfectly wood fired, thin (but not too thin), and light. A perfect canvas for deliciousness to have a party on, and then party it's way into my mouth (aka held the toppings with dignity and grace). The staff were chilled, helpful and lovely. Unfortunately no BYO, but for a limited wine list (and a handful of beers), it does not disappoint. I had the Nebbiolo- 2011 Quealy Pyrenees, Vic, which matched really well and was in itself delicious. Highly, highly recommend Milk&Honey. A lovely space. Great for all kinds- couples, travellers, families, larger groups etc. Tasteful and tasty.

Pretty darn nasty. I've had Sumo Salad elsewhere and found their salads to be fresh and tasty and…read morethus I'm giving this location 2 stars, solely on the merit of the other locations. We purchased a premade chicken and avocado salad quite early in the day, so I'd like to think it had been fresh made that morning - definitely not the case. It was soggy, mushy, overdressed. The lettuce was entirely wilted and drowning in dressing. It was gross. The packaging they used also piled everything and compressed it, so it made the whole thing a gigantic blob of a mess. They present their salads in flat appealing trays, so they should have containers that mimic this. Instead everything was mushed together into one gloppy, wet, yucky experience. Do not order a premade lettuce based salad here. I wouldn't recommend any premade salad unless you like your food very heavily dressed. I'd stick with the make your own variety.

Very speedy service and good value for money. My personal favourite is the Beef and Haloumi Salad - because who doesn't love "healthy" cheese! They make a great Caesar Salad as well with lots of chicken and egg. They can sometimes put on quite a lot of dressing, but they are always happy to serve it on the side in a separate container so you can control the amount yourself. I do recommend to everyone who enjoys healthy options.
