My first time attending the Lotus and Water Lily Festival. There were so many beautiful flowers…read moreeverywhere. It was held at the Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. This Festival is such a beautiful and very scenic time/place with plenty of areas to walk, enjoy the view and for photo ops. There were many activity stations to paint flowers, make flower hats or flower decorations. Both kids and adults partook in the activities. They had an early morning yoga session at the stage area at 8am (bring your own mats!!). There were many other performances including dances and songs. Be sure to check out their web page for the schedule of performances/activities. Signs showing maps, descriptions of the flowers, etc. are around the grounds for visitors. Picnic tables allow visitors to bring their own food/drinks to enjoy while watching any performances. We were here for the Water Lilly and Lotus Festival, held yearly. Of course, we visited on a very hot hot day, so plenty of water, sunscreen, protective clothing and hats are highly recommended! There is a first aid and DC Fire & EMT truck available for any reason. There are enough porta potties available at the entrance of the park as well near the visitor center. There was also a bathroom "trailer" with three stalls, working sinks and the toilets hide any surprises when pushing the handle. Parking is available within the neighborhood streets, most of which are parallel parking.

The weather in 2024 was brutally hot and only a handful of vendors showed up. The festival in 2025 was better though the location along Pennsylvania Ave is so large that this street festival can feel a little empty/tame compared to some others we visited. There is a wide range of vendors from food to shops and community centers. We ordered some dumplings, which were eatable. And an "asian hamburger" from a stand that was seasoned pork on a bao bun. This was actually completely uneatable. Not only did the parents think it was pretty awful, our kids spit it out. The food here is really hit or miss. But the positive of this place is the variety of activities and entertainment. There were craft stations, dragon demos and other events that our kids just loved. My son in particular loved the cosplay competition, which involved people wearing costumes they made at home. I wasn't really into it, but he just loved the spectacle. Overall, this festival is a good one to check out and spend an afternoon. Is it amazing? Not really. But overall a nice festival to mix up the weekend plans.

This year's festival started at 11a and ended at 7p on Pennsylvania Ave. between 3rd and 6th Street and overlooking the National Gallery of Art. I got there around mid afternoon. There were a number of food vendors, so much it was difficult to choose which ones to try first. It was a very hot day, a little too hot for walking around. The lines for most vendors were long. I stood online for about 1/2 hour for sugarcane juice ($8), which I really really wanted. It was a worth the wait, the sugarcane was freshly pressed (not too sweet), cold and refreshing. The lines for food were also very long, there were many things I wanted to try (the thangulu, Ube doughnut, bao buns), but just didn't have the energy to wait on line for a long time in the heat. Each line was over 15 mins. wait. I can only say that is probably a testament to how good the food was. For the food I did get to try, the fried pork belly which was just okay, could have been more crispy and needed more seasoning. The teriyaki chicken wasn't great. It didn't taste like anything special and the chicken was too chewy. I did enjoy the Tiger show dance, and I would have like to try other things, like the henna. Next time I would prepare better and come earlier to hopefully avoid the crowds. Overall, this was a nice experience of Asian heritage and culture through dance, demonstrations, arts & food.

Another Thai New Year in a…read moresleepy place was supposed to be a small celebration of New Year but as soon as I noticed dozens of traffic/parking flow I knew that I am up for something bigger. There were at least 40 if not 50 food booths with the most delicious looking food yet. Almost most of the markets were mom and pop shops and one of them were very friendly makers of Thai doughnuts that we met last week at Lao New Year. The markets and the stage were there as well as huge display for the Buddhist ceremony. It was very hard (even for me) to choose what to eat so my son and I took big portions of mussels pancakes and drunken noodles with shrimp. They were very affordable ($7) and accompanied by Lod Chong, sweet drink made of coconut milk and worm-like green rice flour jelly. At the end we had to take Thai doughnuts - actually they were offered free to us since they met us already and they were glad to see us but I was happy to pay for a tasty doughy treat. The space is sprawling meadow so you do not get a sense of overwhelming crowd. With another Buddhist blessing upon us today, I am closing the tour of many awesome (Asia originated) New Year celebrations in April while moving to another regions of this small world of ours in May.

Not only was there diversity within the items listed above but it brought out a diverse crowd--I'm sure every identity was present at the festival making for good vibes. Food wise, there was a range of vendors that included food from across the Black diaspora (Jamaican, Haitian, Southern soul food), American cuisine, Bar food from H Street bars & restaurants, sushi & other Asian cuisine , among other fun food trucks. The music I experienced spread across multiple genres (African, r&b, reggae, hip hop, country, and pop) and was put forth by live musicians, DJs, and drag queens. Street formers were also off stage entertaining us with their percussion and brass instruments.

H Street Festival is the largest neighborhood festival in Washington, D.C. It started out 12+ years…read moreas a block party. Now it spans 11 blocks and attracts 150,000 people in one day, always a Saturday in September. It usually starts at noon and goes into the evening. Since it's a massive festival almost every business along the H Street corridor is involved (except for Whole Foods and Starbucks). In addition, almost every food vendor and truck sets up shop at the festival. They have all kinds of food and there are many vendors selling arts and crafts (usually around 4th Street). There are also several staging areas, booths giving out water, and even a few stalls from churches. It's always a great time and you'll get a taste for all types of culture in the city. It's AWESOME!

Peruvian festival is a festival of happy and friendly Peruvians and friends of Peru that just…read morecelebrated its 30th anniversary. The parking was good, no entrance fee, a lot of free stuff (ice creams, water, bags, jello's, etc...), plenty of Peruvian food choices. Entertainment was rich and fun as you can tell by the pictures - they even had the horses do the tricks... I had food that I had never tried before: Anticuchos - marinated and grilled calf hearts, was delicious meal, with the taste and texture close to a calf liver. Picarones - Peruvian doughnuts were soft and sweet. I was expecting they will be soggy but they were perfect, melting in mouth. This festival is very colorful, and had all the colors under the sun, not just red and whites (their flag). The festival is family friendly and even had a NPS stand where kids can learn and touch objects. Only problem with that is the lack of alcohol (I would have loved a Peruvian beer) but that is a small price to pay for an excellent Peruvian experience.

This is the 6th annual for Taste Of Peru. It took place at UDC…read more Admission was $17. And there were over 20 vendors selling different Peruvian food. Price ranging from $5-10. Ceviche, empanadas, pisco sour, alfajores, tamales And chicharrón! My favorite was definitely the ceviche from Muella 46 from Lima Peru. They made it fresh in front of you and the onion and lime juice was heavy and on point! I enjoy the food a lot. However, I feel like the admission was a bit of overpriced. Because when you get inside, you still have to buy food individually. Even though the event is called Taste Of Peru, there was no sampling from any vendors. They were all for purchase.

It isn't a massive festival, but has plenty of vendors all from the neighborhood. There were bouncy houses for the kids, a silent disco, cotton candy (always a hit) and so many fun activities. We spent about 4 hours at this festival with our 4 year olds. They had so much fun as did we. There are adult beverages for sale along with so many fun activities. It made us wish we lived in Clarendon!
