Butler's is our family favorite. It is only about a 35 minutes drive from DC and you are out in the "farm". Great family fun to bring the kids. Over the years, we've done apple, strawberry, and blueberry picking here, but the fall pumpkin festival is the best. There are tons of activities for the little ones - hayrides, a corn maze, farm animals, and more. Tubby's BBQ is on-site if you need lunch. The line can be long, but it moves quickly. It is on the pricier side, but well worth it. The farm is beautiful, the experience is fun, and it's a wonderful way to get the kids outdoors. read more

My friends and I had a beautiful triple date during their fair. This place is great for dates, families, friends, and has lots of fun activities for kids. Although the Apple selections were few, we did gather some pink lady apples, which were a huge hit! Sadly, the Gala apples were not doing well this season so we didn't get to pick any of those. They have a great place to order some fresh cider and yummy apple cider donuts. Food is also sold there and I heard that it's delicious. Stopped by here for some apples and fresh produce. They had a great variety of different apples as well as plenty of baked goods. They had some samples out too so you can try before you buy. Also appreciated some of the fresh veggies - we grabbed a bag of discounted jalapeños for poppers and they were fresh, spicy and delicious! This has always been my favorite orchard to do apple picking, pick up some donuts and apple cider and do some fun fall activities. Technically, my friends and I came here towards the end of summer. They still had some apples to pick and no pumpkins, which was fine for us. They had some great apples for baking. We had a lunch there with some average food and did some activities around the orchard. Their market in particular is great! They have so many good deals on veggies and other goods. We went to Butler's Orchard for their Pumpkin Festival and had the most amazing afternoon. What a fun day for kids. The Pumpkin Festival cost $20 per person (even kids 2 and up have to pay) to enter, and everything to eat cost money so it does get expensive. We spent about $200 over 2 hrs here, just with lunch and few things to take home. It was so fun though. There were tons of things for my toddler to do from play equipment, a corn pool, corn maze, giant trampoline bouncy pad, animals, hay rides, face painting and more. We had BBQ food for lunch which was fresh and super tasty. I got their fresh made on the spot kettle corn which was probably the best kettle corn I've ever had! At the end of the day, we went raspberry picking. You can also pick your own apples and pumpkins too. Everything is an extra cost. Picking raspberries cost $6 for the container, you also have to pay an entrance fee to go pick them too if you didn't already pay for the pumpkin festival wrist bands... worth it though! I've been to Butler's Orchard several times and they always have fun activities for family and kids throughout the year, or even for dates or gatherings. This is my second time strawberry picking here. Today they had festivities to celebrate their 75th anniversary. No reservations needed this weekend, but usually you'll need to reserve in advance. We got two 6 quart containers for $6 each and I donned my strawberry shirt and earrings for the occasion and photo ops! It did get very hot and I recommend long pants because the leaves got itchy around the legs! No admission fees and very reasonable prices, plus tons of free activities and play areas for kids! The staff were also great and friendly. In the fall, they open up the fields for bonfires at night and you can bring your own food and drinks and they'll include firewood that'll burn for about 2 hours. After a wild day at homecoming, this was a very welcoming change of pace, and the weather was nice to match! I met some friends for the last day of the pumpkin festival... and believe it or not, this was my first time ever going to Butler's Orchard. Whenever anyone mentions apple picking, usually this spot comes up. So I followed the signs (and saw where people were pointing), and made my way to a parking space on the grass. I do like that you show your ticket and grab a wristband before even going inside... this meant I also had a map. So I studied that for a few minutes and then went inside. The main mission: apple cider donuts. I waited about 5 minutes in line -- shout out to the person who pointed out that we didn't have to wait in the extra long line... that was for all food, not just donuts. I grabbed myself a half dozen, and sheesh... okay, i like Fall again. I forgot how delicious these donuts are... and they were still warm. The rest of my time at Butler's was spent sipping cider, eating BBQ (that was a wonderful pit turkey sandwich), and just watching everything going on. The pumpkin picking, mazes, goats, corn pool, and everything else going on made for a really cool space. It was my first time going to Butler's, but it won't be my last. Pumpkin patch to hay rides, petting zoo to all of the delicious foods they have, this place is a top pic for being in the area for fall. I cant wait to go back next year. My first fall activity of the season was a success! Me and my co workers came on a Saturday afternoon. They are very popular so I highly recommend buying your tickets online atleast a day or a few days ahead of time. For the weekends it is $20 to buy a ticket online. Then when you come you get a wristband. Parking is free and depending on what you want to do, you can park near the market or the pumpkin festival. Very family friendly but prepare to spend money on food or desserts. I spent around $15 on an apple cider slushie, 1 apple cider donut, & a chicken tender basket with fries. Overall I had a great time and there's so much you can do here from the market, to a petting zoo, to a corn maze, to hay rides to picking strawberries. I would definitely come back !! read more

I was in the neighborhood and decided to visit this spot. I saw they were having an Apple Festival, but I just wanted to visit their store (it was my first time in the store even though I have been to Butler's Orchard many times in the past). They have so many things inside that makes you want to try a little of everything. Near the back I noticed crates of apples with samples for each - I like that. I tried some of the samples but not all of them. Here are the ones I liked: Honeycrisp, Ludacrisp, Snapdragon, and FyreFly. Love the names and I enjoyed the crisp tastes as well. I purchased just a few as these were premium apples. I definitely could not leave without getting some of their apple cider donuts (I have had them before, so I know how good they are). I knew they would not last for the week - once you had one yourself, you will understand. I saw other things that I wanted to try, but held off until my next trip to the store. There's always something to pick at this farm. A few days ago, the blackberries were perfect for picking. They have parking at area that you want to visit so you don't have to walk so much. I got a small container to pick blackberries and it was perfect amount for me. Definitely stop by the store before you go. I got a big bag of kettle corn, Virgina peanuts, honey sticks, Doc Waters cider. They have so many cute things at the store too! They also have chickens, roosters, sheep, donkey, pigs, and goats to hang out with. The goats have holes in the fence if you want to pet them. A very cool farm! read more

Apple picking is a pretty fun family activity and Butler's has a nice variety of apples from which to pick...but they're expensive! To pick a peck of apples will cost you $28.00 plus $4.00 per person to pick them. So for a family of 3, a peck of pick-your-own apples cost ($40.00). However, if you go to their own farm store (which is nice and filled with things they grow...and things they don't), a peck of pre-picked apples will cost $17.99 ($18.00)! More reasonably, a bag of "kettle corn" will cost $8.00, and a jar of apricot preserve costs $6.99 ($7.00). We left there with a smile because they do have some "included" activities, like a few old-fashion slides (with burlap bags) and two small "tractor pulls" which were fun. Again, picking apples is fun, getting taken for a ride (not a hay ride either), is less fun! read more

I enjoyed visiting Butler's Orchard Pumpkin Festival with my family. The baby changing house was a big help super convenient for parents! The festival is quite spread out, which is nice for exploring, but it's also very hilly, so be prepared for some walking. They have a really good pumpkin selection, which made picking one extra fun. I loved the crab corn soup. The apple cider donut was a bit dry, though, and the apple cider drinks were on the small side for the price. I'm in my 40s now, and Butler's Orchard has been part of my life since I was a kid. I've brought my own children here when they were younger, and it holds so many special memories for our family. No matter how many times I've visited over the years, it always feels like a tradition worth keeping. This year, I had their peach blueberry pie for the very first time--and it was hands down the best pie I've ever had (sorry, Mom!). I didn't want to take home a whole pie, and Joseph at the market helped make it happen. He was so kind and accommodating, and honestly, it's hard to describe exactly--but his kindness really stuck with me. That kind of genuine, thoughtful service goes a long way in my book. The Cutest Fall Festival Butlers orchard continues to impress me with their yearly improvements and attractions. At $19.95 a pop it is well worth the trip if you don't mind driving a bit. I visited in Spring 2022 and since they've updated their location to add: New castle like play areas (pictured) which was previous just a train that kids could go in and out of. A corn pool An additional jump pad for kids 40" and under. A cider bar w/alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages Despite the amount or cars you see in the parking lot it there's never a sense of overcrowding or waiting for attractions. My kids probably have maxed out here but for kids 8 and under this is the perfect place. read more

There are so many fun things to do that even though there were so many people there , we didn't have to wait in too many lines (other than for food). My daughter and I visited on Memorial Day when the hours were 8:30-2pm. I booked a couple of days prior online, which was good because no walk-ins were available. For $6 you get a quart size basket. If you find you have an abundance of berries, you can purchase additional baskets at the field. A tractor runs quite frequently between the fields and parking area. The additional activities are FREE which is a great advantage when compared to other farms with similar offerings and admission prices. The newest playground area has 8-9 slides. It's brand new and looks it. Other opportunities are pedal carts, farm animals, a pirate ship and a castle, a long wooden train, a large tractor with three slides, 3-4 slides requiring a burlap sack, a spider web, tractor pull, and mini diggers. The mini diggers do cost extra and goat feed is $2. The food offerings looked better than expected-specials today were a turkey Ruben and hot honey fried chicken. You can also bring outside food. There are tons of tables for picnics or eating from their food hut. The playgrounds are open even when there's no pick your own. If we lived closer I'd definitely consider purchasing a season pass. read more

Butler's Orchard knows what they are doing when it comes to fall activities. There were so many activities for kids! My toddler especially loved to feed the farm animals and jump on the hill top hops. They have some of your classic fall activities such as hayrides and a corn maze. In the fall they have both apple picking and pumpkin picking. During other seasons they have a variety of other produce to pick. I saw some signs for berry picking for example. For the adults they have cider in the back end on the grounds. It was $9 a glass, on the pricey end. I was a but disappointed they were out of half their ciders when I stopped by their stand. I still enjoy the cider I tried though. There are plenty of places to get food while you are there but you can bring in food if you want as well. If you are coming for the fall festival (this includes picking apples or pumpkins) buy your tickets in advance. They have a limit on how many people they let in. I'm glad they do though cus it was already packed so I can't imagine how crowded it would get if they left the gates open for everyone. On your way out make sure to stop at the marketplace they have lots of goodies to bring home! Highly recommend to anyone with children! read more

I've had the pleasure of visiting Butler's Orchard for their fall festival three times, and their Sunflower festival once. All were loads of fun! The fall festival has pumpkin picking, apple cider doughnuts, a corn maze, a pumpkin cannon, slides, and more. There's certainly more to do if you are child, but it's still a blast as an adult, and I loved getting to pick my own pumpkin. The Sunflower festival was also fun; it was such an experience just to stand in a sunflower field, let along get to pick your own flowers. I also picked some cherry or grape tomatoes, which was fun--I had only every picked fruit before (well, other fruits--I guess tomatoes are a fruit), so this was a nice change of pace. They also had peppers and other vegetables. The farm store is can't miss, with frozen apple cider slushees in the fall, all the pies, and plenty of other local produce, jams, sauces, and treats. I've never had a bad time at Butler's Orchard, even the years I had to brave the fall festival in the pouring rain (because you need to buy tickets in advance--I do wish they would let you trade your tickets for another day when there's inclement weather). read more

I've been to Butler's Orchard a couple times (three years ago and this past weekend) and thought it was just OK. For $19.50, the attractions were mediocre at best. There is a small corn maze, a couple slides made out of vent tubes looking structure, a hayride with no good sites, some farm animals, and maybe a few others. The festival is definitely more for kids and less for the adults, but I know other orchards in the area at least give you a free pumpkin with the entry fee. Nothing here. A few of us got a pack of six cider donuts for $8, which is a pretty good deal. However, the cider donuts lacked the slight chewiness we were hoping for and the cinnamon sugar was inconsistently topped on each donut (some were much sweeter than others). I got the Maryland crab soup here for $5, which was surprisingly hearty with a bit of a spice kick that I enjoyed. My friend got a beer for $9 that didn't have a strong cider flavor, and he didn't think it was worth it. I don't think Butler's Orchard is worth the drive if you don't live nearby. There is a store before the orchard area if you wanna just stop by and grab some fall themed goods (like boysenberry jam!) if you aren't interested in the attractions. read more

Came on a Saturday to try and get to the fall festival. We showed up to the Butlers Orchard sign at around 2:45. We did not park until 4:15. If you do come, definitely account for insane traffic. There is nobody waving people through or anything to help move things along. As for the orchard itself, it was incredible! We got ourselves a couple beautiful pumpkins from the pumpkin patch. We ran out of time to pick apples which was right next to the pumpkin patch because of the traffic, but as of October 5th, it looked stocked with apples. The festival itself is definitely geared towards children. We enjoyed a trip through the corn maze as well as some nice farm animals. The real star of the show was the apple cider donuts and apple cider! I think I ate 8 within 24 hours. We also grabbed some kettle corn which was tasty. The cider was unfortunately a wasp magnet. We had to abandon our cup after a few sips because we were getting swarmed. read more

I've been to Butler's Orchard a couple of times now - both to enjoy the campsite/bonfire areas with a group of friends. There are two locations within the facility that are available for rent for a 3 hour period. The Butler's Orchard staff sets up the bonfire area with a warmly lit fire and a limited supply of wood to keep the fire going. Each area also has one to two tables to hold anything you and your guests bring to enjoy. The park allows visitors to bring in food or alcohol to these spaces; this makes an evening at Butler's Orchard a really fun idea for groups of 10 or more to get together for a bonfire potluck. Find your way around the orchard can be tough; I wish they would add clearer signs to help get your to your campsites. On both occasions, I found myself lost and in the wrong area of the Orchard. read more

I've been to Butler's Orchard three times -- 2016, 2021, and this year, and it's been a wonderful experience each time! We usually come here for apple picking, which is best done in September, however there were still plenty of good quality gala apples this year when we went on October 1st for the Pumpkin Festival. The Pumpkin Festival is always a huge hit, and there is just too much to do and it is so much fun! Make sure you bring food and water from home because lines for the food stands can get very long. My favorites are the apple cider donuts as well as the apple cider drink, which are absolutely fantastic. Parking is easy and free. The Pumpkin Festival is $15 a person if you buy it in advance online, plus a $1.50 fee for each ticket. I think they raised the price this year, but it felt worthwhile still because there was just so much to do. I think the best age for the Pumpkin Festival would be 2 to 6 years old. The corn maze and hayrides are a lot of fun, so don't miss that. Pumpkin and apple picking are in separate areas that you have to drive to, separate from the pumpkin festival. This has become an annual tradition for my family to visit Butler's Orchard ever since we moved to the DMV, and we love going each year! 5/5 read more

A bit disappointed that this year there's multiple things that cost extra (like the diggers and face paint) the pony rides and pumpkins always cost extra but the cost of the ticket went up, so was surprised that there were so many extra charges. I have been coming here for years. Do I like the entry fee? No, but I ended up getting a season pass. With the season pass, you get 10% off, and you don't need a reservation. I like the flexibility of going at the last minute. During this occasion, I was there to pick strawberries. It is only the start of the season. The website indicated it is good picking. It took me about an hour and half to pick a half flat. The strawberries were mostly small with the occasion of bigger ones. However, the strawberries were sweet and flavorful. I am sure I will be back for more strawberries within a week. read more

This is a popular spot so do plan ahead and get online reservations. I also recommend always coming here during the mornings. The afternoon is hot and it can get packed pretty quick. They have a lot of fields for picking. Check the calendar. I went here for strawberry picking and it was running low when I got here. When they realized there were no more strawberries, they directed everyone to another place to get on a tractor and into another field. I like the second one a lot more because of the views and the experience. The strawberries were not the star of the day. It was more so the experience of going out and doing something with friends. That's what this place offers. They have portable toilets here and a washing hand station and a place with farm animals. You can pet the goats. They are always pretty hungry. Your car should be okay driving around grass and rocks. It can get dusty too. They have a farmers market to buy some fruits and vegetables. But, the bread and butter is the pick your own. read more

Great orchard to visit with kids: reasonably priced, well-organized, and well-designed, with knowledgeable staff -- what's not to love? For strawberry picking, you register ahead of time for a timed entry. It's $4 for each kid/adult over the age of two. You can pre-order the container you'd like. A half-flat resulted in us bringing home around 5 lbs of strawberries. You take a short open-air trolley to the strawberry field where you can pick to your heart's content. The strawberry plants were plentiful and the trolley came by every few minutes. Back at the farm, there's a little stand selling food with seating benches, an area for private birthday parties, a petting zoo with the cleanest animals I think I've ever seen (goats, pigs, sheep, a donkey), and a few cute little wooden/tractor-themed playground structures and slides to entertain the kiddos. We'll definitely be back for other fruit and pumpkins! read more

Wanted to go apple picking with the fam and this was recommended. I made reservations online, which I later realized really isn't needed, as you can pay on site. Also, online they let you know what is best to pick at that time, which I found really helpful. Once inside, you drive your car to the respective location, pick up your bags and get to picking! We specifically went to pick apples and they had many to choose from. I also thought it would be awesome to pick some flowers, but I was less than thrilled about what was found. Had so much fun at Butler's Orchard last weekend. Bought the Pumpkin Festival ticket which included all of the fun activities around the large outdoor space. We got to pet goats, sheep and donkeys and you could feed the animals if you wanted to buy some food pellets from the market. We got lunch from Tubby's BBQ and the prices were so much better than I was expecting! For a pulled pork sandwich, Italian sausage with peppers, hot fresh French fries, slice of pumpkin pie, iced tea and lemonade, our total was only $30! Totally worth it as everything was delicious. We went on the hayride and got some Cider from Doc Waters Cidery. Got to watch the pumpkin launcher for a while and then pick our own pumpkins in the pumpkin patch. Only $.75/per lb is a great price! Close to the end of the season and they still have a great large selection of pumpkins. Overall I give this place 5 stars and highly recommend anyone with kids to head over there during the Fall. read more

The multiple slides had my kid captives. The food was good, I grabbed an Italian sausage to snack on. We went to the pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin to take home. My favorite part of the trip was the apple orchard. The weather was perfect for picking apples and it's such a fun activity to do with children. I have grown up going to Butler's and it is always a good time. This year I paid to go to the festival part of Butler's for the first time and although it is cute, i did not feel $19.50 was a totally justified price. It is very kid friendly which is great so i can see it being more worth it for families. However, my two friends and I are 23 and had a good time but were slightly disappointed that the hayride did not take us somewhere to get pumpkins, since I thought that's how it was in the past but maybe that is another area. Food was very affordable. There is a lot of space and feel that for that price more might be included, he seems like some of the attractions (like shooting a pumpkin out of a canon) would be extra. Will always have love for Butler's and still think it is a great fall activity. read more
