Folks sit in silence, and speak as (and if) they are so led. Meetings can thus be deep. There is no designted leader of the Sunday morning meetings, and no need for one. There is singing, prayer, discourse, silence, chatting, you name it, going on before and after, many times. The Meeting House is large and historic, can host many event, and is even for rent. There are grounds, and in back is an old (still used) cemetery. Attendees are united in spirit, including Christians, Jewish, atheists, and others who seek to share spirituality, and to find more of their own. It's an uplifting of belonging and seeking. It's different.

BUT, after having been to a few family weddings at this particular meetinghouse, I feel like I can combine my love of family tradition and my love of Yelp and write this review. Before I begin, I must ask you to do away with your assumptions that all Quakers wear large black hats, white knee socks and speak in 'thee' and 'thou' because we don't. It's an old New England tradition, and there aren't many if us, so when we do get together for a meeting, it's special. What's even more special is when we get married. Even more special that that? Doing it in a meetinghouse that's older than all of us combined. THAT'S cool. And that's what this meetinghouse is. It's gorgeous, it's special and it's rare. No air conditioning, no fans. Windows and high ceilings, yes.Very little electricity. It's actually impressive that there is even running water! But I love it, I do. The space is sparse, it's lovely and it's so beautifully traditional it breaks my heart every time I'm here. Tucked away off Main Street, this is a treasure you'd never even know existed unless you were told. The pews are strait, wooden and uncomfortable and there's no opulence to speak of, but that's also what makes this a special place. I'm far from religious. I'm far from speaking in 'thee' and thou' but I can appreciate tradition and a family history, so I'll forever hold this beautiful place close to my heart.

Although there were some positives like the staff being nice and sitting next to me since I'm…read morenervous at new places, I mostly disliked this church. A dog barked once which isn't too big of a deal and, most annoyingly, is a kid was screaming through the whole service and running up on stage and in the chapel. I was there and I have absolutely no idea what the priest said. A couple walked out after 20 minutes and I was tempted to do the same but it took me half an hour to get there so I didn't want the trip to be for nothing. This was my first time and I'm most likely not going back.

It has been a good 20 years at least since I've been there, A lot of things have changed with time, many losses, the biggest of these being my pastor Brother Reynolds, and of course his beautiful wife on the organ every Sunday.
