EWC in Horsham is my go-to location for waxing. I've been a customer here for about 2 years. I'm in and out within 10-15 minutes regardless of the service. They do a really good job of keeping their clients on schedule. The girls at the front desk are pleasant and promptly greet you when you walk in. I normally see Alison for my wax appointments, but yesterday I had an appointment with Sally and she was wonderful. She made conversation with me to keep me calm while she waxed because I had a lot of hair that needed to be removed. She gave me tips on what to do to prevent my hair from growing back longer and thicker. When you go to pay, the girls at the front always ask, "How was everything for you today?". It's nice to know that if I had a concern it would be addressed. They ask if you'd like to schedule your next appointment and provide you with an appointment reminder card. I love that the wax employees are consistent. For 5 years I remained with one person in particular . Her name is Lynn. Very thorough , professional and sweet and most of all consistent. I've been a client at EWC for a year and a half now, and my best experience has been with Kate at the Horsham location. I don't love getting Brazilians but like the end result. It was so nice to find someone like Kate who made the experience easy! She was super personable yet professional. She did an excellent job! (Coming from someone who's gotten a LOT of brazillians) Getting a Brazilian can be uncomfortable and painful but Kate is super gentle and efficient. She's the best! I recently called this establishment to ask about some of the services as I had heard nice things about this company, and the young lady I spoke to the first time was pretty helpful when we spoke she answered my question. I later realized I had more questions and called back the lady I spoke to when I called back the second time was incredibly rude. I don't know crawled up her back end to make her have that attitude but that Jasmine or Yasmin lady (I'm not sure which is correct as she did not seem to want to be bothered to assist me on the phone and rushed me off) needs to check her attitude at the door. All I wanted to know was if I needed an appointment and if there was any maintenance I needed to attend to prior to going as this WAS going to be my first time going there and getting the services I wanted. I usually go to Zara for the brows but was considering getting some landscaping done as well for the first time. Honestly if this is how you treat new clientele I don't think I'll ever be going. -10/10 save for the first young lady. Guess I'll be saving up for laser removals instead. This probably won't go far, I can't imagine I'm the first person to have had a negative experience with them but here's to hoping there's some type of resolution. read more

Warning: I write long reviews. I give as much detail and opinion as I wish someone else would give for me. First let me say that this is my first ever leg and bikini wax. I've done my eyebrows and upper lip for years at different places (hair salon, nail salon..where ever) but figured with this type of job I should do a little research. I'm one of those girls that gets the terrible in-grown hairs. Sooo embarrassing and unsightly. I also have more than I think is fair for a female. Why I waited so long to do this I have no idea. About the European Wax Center: I made an appt. It was easy to do and the girl on the phone was very sweet to the newbie. Took the time to explain things to me that a first timer might not know. Easy to find. It's in a nice strip mall type establishment. Lot's of businesses around it. (treat yourself with coldstone creamery when you're done lol) Inside of center is clean, neat and new. Cute little decor, more modern with sleek lines and minimalist type style. Staff looked put together. This is important to me. I think that having a staff dressed neatly and put together shows an attention to detail. I don't mind tattoos or piercings (I'm an old fogy.. really.. very conservative) as long as you have a good presentable appearance and manner. Every person I met in the center was just that. Back to the room and down to business. Verify what I'm having done, the fact that I'm a newbie. Shuck the clothes on the bottom end (leave your modesty at the door) and climb on the table. Room seemed clean and organized. Paper on the table, just like your doctors office. Stephanie was a dear, she kept up a running chatter for me as she got to business. She was very quick (which I appreciate). Didn't try to "hold my hand" or give me a moment to rest, she just kept going and kept talking and when needed, even gave me some encouragement, "You're doing really well. Just a few more." lol It wasn't too bad until... those last 3 or 4 strips *cough* That had a suck factor rating of about 12 (out of 10). The result: Stephanie explained that while every hair is not gone this is normal for the first timer. She encouraged me NOT TO SHAVE and to come back in 3 to 4 weeks..no longer! She also did the obligatory push for the center's product. I don't mind this, it's expected. She didn't go over the top with the pitch. Upon examination at home I was a little disappointed but figured I'd see how things began to grow back. 2 weeks later.. I LOVE the result! No in-grown hairs! The hair is soft as it comes back, not prickly like when I would shave. Yes I have hairs that were left by the wax but not many, I could wear shorts if I really wanted to. Final Opinion: Totally worth the pain. I'm not saying discomfort, it really was beyond that for me near the end. BUT, I'll do it again because I can see how this is going to pay off. This winter I'm going to get my underarms done and my lower legs as well. This is something I should have done years ago! I definitely will be heading back to this business. UPDATE: 6/13/2011 Just went for follow up bikini with the in-house sadist role played by Stephanie once more.... Well... they didn't lie, it doesn't hurt as bad as it did the first time. Perhaps it was because I knew what was coming? Perhaps I simply traumatized my hair follicles into releasing with less of a fight. I don't know, I don't care, all that matters is I feel like I can manage this level of discomfort without embarrassing myself. I did end up getting some ingrown follicles but only after about 3 1/2 weeks of grow back. I still prefer this result to shaving! Again.. must do! No idea why I waited so long. read more

My bikini area has never been smoother, hairless, and happy. Okay, the last one isn't all thanks to the wax center, but you know what I mean. I love this place. Why? Oh... let's see: 1) Affordable! - your first trip will be so freaking cheap if your license has a PA address. My first full bikini wax was like $14 bucks. Last time, I got a full bikini, eyebrow, and lip wax and it was $60. Most salons charge at least $60 just for the bikini wax. 2) Tips are easy! - you can put tips on the CC. This is awesome when I don't have any cash on me. 3) Honest - during my first visit, I was originally supposed to get the brazilian, because that's what I always got at other salons/spas. Well, half way through the wax, the specialist asked me to flip over and spread my ass cheeks. What? Come again? But I have no shame, so I obliged. She inspected briefly and said I had no hair there (woohoo!) so she was going to chance my service to a full bikini so I don't get charged extra. Wow! Not only did I save money, I also learned that I have a hairless butt. Sweet. 4) Walk-Ins accepted - I walked in during my lunch break. I expected to wait a long time or be turned away. Instead, I was told the next available slot was in 30 minutes. So I grabbed lunch next door and came back, and we were ready to rock and roll. 5) Hard wax - I prefer their hard/blue wax over the regular wax. It's less painful, and also allows for multiple applications for that pesky hair. It doesn't burn your or rip off any precious skin. It should be noted, this wax does not use any strips and the wax is literally pull off by hand. But not as bad as it sounds. The only negative thing I have to say is that the center is FREEZING. It's frill-free in general- you get bottomless while your wax specialist gets everything ready. But the AC is on full blast and it really does not feel good when you're spreading your legs for a stranger. read more

After I moved to Pennsylvania, I could not find anyone who used hard wax. (Hard wax= wax that adheres to the skin and hardens and then is peeled off with out the aid of a cloth strip) I prefer hard wax to regular wax because I consider it to be less painful. I had to settle, but not for long because I found European Wax Center! As an African-American woman I am skeptical of visiting any type of establishment that has the word "European" in it. It makes me feel that maybe they will not know how to work with my hair/skin type. If waxing is done incorrectly on dark skin it can result in scarring. So, I went in a skeptic and emerged a hairless believer! I go to Danielle and she gets down to business. You enter the back and go into one of the treatment rooms, which are nicely appointed, but COLD! You take off your clothes (don't be shy, they do not leave the room while you do this), lay on the table, and she gets to work. She tries to take your mind off of the pain by asking you questions, which is appreciated. She is quick and efficient and I can always get my bikini area and underarms done in about 20! She also does a through check for ingrown hairs and takes care of those too! I always go during my lunch hour and I am grateful for the get down to business attitude that the center has. I am sometimes annoyed at the sales pitch the cashiers give you about booking appointments ahead of time to save money, but that is the only complaint I have. Is it painful? Of course it is! I went to EWC and had the worst experience. First off...my tech rushed through my service. She was trying to talk to me but you can tell she wasn't really listening. Those poor girls are rushed to do 15 min or less Brazillains..and although I enjoy the fact that I won't be in there for an hour I don't like the feeling of being rushed through a service. She left hair behind and this is not the first time it has happened with EWC. I recently found out those girls only make 5% of what we pay for the service and have to push product sales to make a decent paycheck. Shame on EWC for that crappy franchise pay model. I can now why techs are always leaving. They should really give those girls more time to do a better wax job too. read more

Pros: clean and sleek facility, friendly professional staff, ability to see me within 10 mins even though I walked in without an appointment, great location -- close to shopping/restaurants/major highways, great 1st timer rate of 1/2 off a Brazilian wax! The only con I can think of, and that others have commented on, is that the wax does not always take each and every last hair off. This is likely due to how long a client has gone between waxes, and maybe technician experience. Either way, if you see something, say something. It's that easy folks. Like most businesses they want to please and retain customers, but customers need to *communicate* their needs too. It's a two way street. When I mentioned the stray hairs (there were only 3 or 4 max) left behind the technician did not hesitate to clean them up promptly, and with a smile at that. I was skeptical going to a "chain" waxing place but given many positive reviews decided to give them a try. Not disappointed in the slightest. Quite the opposite, very pleasantly surprised. I made an appointment online. Very easy. Showed up on time and was taken right back. The place is nice, clean, slightly industrial with their many rooms. My technician didn't beat around the bush, no pun intended. She told me to strip in the corner and leave my clothes on the table, which I did find a bit odd because she was there mixing the wax. I guess since she was about to see the whole thing in a minute anyway it didn't matter at this point. I got a Brazilian. She was quick and efficient. The blue hard wax I was told doesn't hurt as much. I am not sure I would agree. It hurts. Quite a bit actually, but, as expected. Overall I thought it was good. It was my first wax in years and she did a great job, even using tweezers when needed. I would definitely go back again. Inhale...then exhale... and then rip! Ever dread going for the wax job, but you know the longer you wait the more painful it's going to be? I always have a bit of butterflies in my tummy, but I have less anxiety from this experience. The whole thing was professional from the beginning to the end, but not to make you feel uncomfortable at all. Your technician introduces themselves, leads you to the room, asks a few questions and then gets to ripping. That's the way I like it! Talking to the technician gets me through it also! I need the distraction, but I find myself not needing it as much this time. My technician was great and conversational, so it became a more enjoyable experience. (I really don't believe I'm stating this, but it was). The wax itself was not traumatically hot at all, just warm enough to tolerate to the skin. They use no strips when they rip. I only had minimal pain at the sensitive spots, I didn't have to scream. In fact, I dont' think I've heard anyone screaming or crying from other rooms. Even if she did one rip and took me for a surprise, I wouldn't even notice it. The prices are very good, actually less than where I am. So, I'll definitely come back for routinely.
