The "historic" parts are real and well-maintained, including restored buildings. Not much goes on here, but it is great for bike rides or walks. Sadly, the little bridge over Bayou "Bud", which bisects this section of the Park, has been condemned as unsafe for autos. This inhibits access to the Bayou-front and the best picnic areas. Park management is always on-site and is friendly & helpful. Don't expect much excitement here. Great spotless restrooms are in the main office building ! Rick .

I bought some homemade treats and enjoyed the scenery while listening to music. My son had a blast meeting new friends at the park. There is also a pool to enjoy during the summer. I want start by saying this is a beautiful and well maintained State Park - "Louisiana's newest…read morestate park is very interactive with 6 cabins, 95 campsites, 4 picnic pavilion and numerous picnic sites, a visitor center, boat launch, splash park, nature trails, lakes, canoe area" and lot of wildlife roaming around. If you want to take pictures of them you'll need to be ready and alert because they are camera shy - as we crept along the improved roads in stealth mode (our Maverick is a hybrid and when driving slow it's very quiet in electric mode) we saw so much beautiful wildlife but was only able to snap a photo of one lone rabbit. We probably saw a dozen rabbits grazing the wet green grass, a few deer, lots of native birds and a 8 - 10 foot alligator that was crossing the road directly in front of us only to scurry into the swamp like he was being chased by a Cajun Chef looking to prepare a stew. We walked a few trails cautiously after seeing the gator, but the deer flies were active so we abandoned that idea pretty quickly, There is so much to do here and the State has done so many things for visitors to do no matter your age. Being avid RVers we also drove through the camp ground, the sites look level and are gorgeous, most if not have full hookups, it's appears most are gravel but there are a few concrete pads in the mix, of course lots of shade and most are very private. We really enjoyed the few hours we spent here, being this park is very very remote come with everything you need and take out everything you don't need and help keep this park pristine for the wildlife and others to enjoy...

This is a beautiful but very remote Louisiana State Park, admission is free for anyone over the age…read more62 otherwise you'll pay $3.00 per person. There seems to have been a lot of infrastructure improvements over recent years, there are very nice concrete RV Sites with full hookup, the entrance road into the park is a little rough requiring you to mostly travel at idle speeds. There is a large boat launch and parking lot located before you get to the park's entrance so the traffic pattern inside the park is free of boat trailers and tow vehicles. There are plenty of covered pavilions for picnicking and getting out of the sun as well as a nice concrete area at the end of the park designed for fishing and crabbing and it seemed like a lot of the visitors were here for that. There was absolutely no cellular service on most of the drive in and inside the park so plan ahead, maybe your service provider will have better results. I also recommend you fuel up before coming here I did not see any convenient stores or fueling options along the 18 mile drive once we took the exit off LA90. It's a beautiful setting and seems to be a popular area for boating, fishing and camping with a Louisiana vibe...

It's easier to keep an eye on your kids and the park is never over crowded. My son loves bringing his trucks into the sand area and I can sit and relax right next to him on the benches. There are restrooms right next to the playground/baseball fields. The walking trails are wide enough for multiple people to be walking, running and biking without bumping into each other- unlike highland. Overall great place and wish there were more like it in Baton Rouge.

Add the mixture of trees, bushes, and docks, and you have yourself a very nice scenic elegant park. For activities, there's people fishing and kayaking here and walking their dogs. It's pretty close to the LSU campus; it's obvious the student body and school staff enjoy this park as well!
