We love the Perkins park! The kids playground area is great for my 3 year old. It's much smaller than the play area at the highland park but I'd rather it that way. It's easier to keep an eye on your kids and the park is never over crowded. My son loves bringing his trucks into the sand area and I can sit and relax right next to him on the benches. There are restrooms right next to the playground/baseball fields. The walking trails are wide enough for multiple people to be walking, running and biking without bumping into each other- unlike highland. Overall great place and wish there were more like it in Baton Rouge. read more

I guess "community park" means something specific in south Louisiana because it has a very similar flat, green and circular layout in the "community park" in Lafayette. Overall it seems like a pleasant place, it's fairly bustling on a Saturday afternoon so it seems like a good place to play. read more

This park has quite a bit to offer. When is the last time you saw a public velodrome? It also has a very cool looking skate park, rock climbing structure, and a bmx course. We were just there to walk the dogs and they have a nice long sidewalk trail for that. They also have a large football stadium and baseball fields. Highly recommended. read more

I feel so proud as a resident of EBRPar to say that BREC is our park system. Sometimes, you pay taxes into things and never understand where your money must be going. This is never the case with BREC. The parks are clean, we'll run and kept up, the employees there are different themes and classes offered at each park and this park is no different. In fact, I think it is the best park if you have children old enough to skateboard or bike all the way up to teens. I can't think of many things for little children to do there. This park is for people who like to be active and take risks but with the utmost safety precautions in place. There are softball fields, a running track, a beautiful lake, a skate park, a BMX Racetrack, a velodrome, a gym with basketball courts and a fully staffed rock wall. There is plenty of parking, the bathrooms are clean and stocked, there are Coke machines. On the other side there is plenty of grass to run, picnic tables, a place to BBQ and a covered area that you can book through BREC for a private party. I would, do, and will recommend this park. read more

I'm really digging this park. It is close to my home, and it has a nice mostly paved path that goes around the park. I like riding my bike on it, but people also walk, run, or skateboard around it. I still miss the more woodsy parks I was used to in Mississippi, but this is as close as I've gotten to that type of feeling here in Baton Rouge. It's definitely a quieter experience than riding my bike by LSU Lakes (horrible) or always having to go to the levee trail. read more

I was passing thru in my 25' RV and took a break here as there are a ton of parking. YRMV during busy season. It is a huge park with many different activity areas. I used it to stretch my legs and walk my dog. There are plenty of spots to sit and watch the skateboards. It just rained so some areas and 1-2 paths were waterlogged and blocked. I will visit again when I am passing thru. read more

This is a great park. At the front there is a skateboard and bike park with ramps. It is well lit too at night. Then they have a rock climbing wall for those who want to give that a try. There are two playgrounds, one for bigger kids and one for the small children. They have some pavilions for picnics and birthday parties. There is also a baseball field. This park is hands-down incredible. There really aren't enough positive words for it. It has everything you could possibly need at a park: miles of walking trails, a picturesque lake and gazebo, a really cool, modern jungle gym... oh, and also a huge skate park, a bmx track, a velodrome and an excellent climbing wall. This summer the climbing wall is open on Wednesday evenings, in addition to the weekends, which makes me a happy happy camper while I'm traveling here. This is an excellent Skate boarding, BMX bikes and scooters flying everywhere! Allowing the beginner to the most advanced multiple opportunities for fun. Early morning to late afternoon is probably your best time to come. Although word on the street is it's busy when your off of school. Mid day and weekends are pretty crowded! Older kids look out for younger kids! Great environment for everyone! We came back the day after and did the BMX bike track only. I just want to say that the guys working as staff on the track here are excellent!!! They go out of their way to assist all! They will do simple repairs on your bike and have you back out on the track in seconds! I just watched this one little guy take a tumble and one of the staff guys that works on the BMX track walked out to him, knelt down to his level, checked out his leg and gave him a pep talk! He got him back on his bike and the little guy dried his eyes and he was on his way! It was the sweetest thing to watch! read more

This park is a great place to go for a run. There is a paved path that goes all around the park. That will bring you about 1.5 to 2 miles. Additionally, another path that is part paved and part not shoots out west from the south end of the park. You can add in about 1.5 to 2.5 miles here depending on what you want to do with it. The park seems very safe, and there are always smiling people around. It includes a playground and bike track in addition to the indoor area and stadium. This is somewhere that I will continue to come back to get some exercise in, as it is both pretty and useful. read more

My daughter and I are really taking a liking to this place. She has met other girls around her age, it is safe for her to bike ride and we scaled the triangular rope structure quite a few times that I can confidently say we are getting very decent at it. There is a bit of profanity by the younger crowd that is skateboarding, but besides that nuisance it is not that bad of a place. I recommend this park to parents with small children as well as a great place for teenagers to blow some steam off. read more

Our 8 year old LOVES the Extreme Skate Park! Baton Rouge has great parks all over the city but this one is definitely in the top 10! The last time we went out there, a family had driven in from NOLA because there is nothing like it there! Pack up your bikes, skateboards, razors and more for hours of fun! Helmets and pads are also a good idea. This park is a great place for kids to learn technique. It tends to get crowded later in the day and the evenings are not great for younger children. read more

Hands down, one of the best community parks I've ever been to! It's not huge, but it's gorgeous, so well maintained, safe, and there's tons to do. There's a large skate park where all ages (literally) can come skate, bike, rollerblade, etc. There's a BMX track, beach volleyball, playground, a walking path, lots of grass, a rock climbing tower, and even a velodrome. This park is my favorite in Baton Rouge to come spend a Saturday or Sunday walking around and people watching. read more

This is such a gorgeous park and a great way to see your tax payer money at work! I grew up near Kenilworth, and it's been wonderful to see the updates that this park has undergone over the years. I love how they've kept it up and added fun new additions, like the rock wall. I usually just take my dogs for a walk here, and it's always very well kept - well-maintained landscape, no trash, etc. BREC is doing a wonderful job! Nice walking paths, rock wall, skate and bmx parks, plus more! My husband took me to a little trail in the far left corner that runs along the creek and it was beautiful. This is a spectacular park! So much to do here and the scenery is great! Every time I come, I find a new route, a new place to read and relax, or watch the pups! My favorite spot is by the lake, where the sand is. Great place for picnics, letting little tikes build sand castles, or feed the ducks. I saw some folks attach a hammock and nap in the trees. Some teens brought a cooler and fishing rods, up to the dock area. Others brought their cameras for great family photos. There is only fun times to be had here in this picturesque park! read more

Walking trail, bike trail, a skateboard park, a pond for fishing, BMX track, picnic areas, playgrounds for the kids, baseball fields. I also love that it's dog friendly. This park is directly connected to my apartment complex via a coded gate, which is very convenient. I go here multiple times a week to rub with my dog. They have well paved paths that easily fit myself and my dog with room for others to pass going the opposite direction (I hate when someone has to get off and run in the grass). The paved track connects to a large path that goes all the way behind Pennington, with beautiful views of tress and a small river. There's also trails throught he woods that my dog and I like to explore on occasion. There's a fishing pond that they stock every few years with trout, make sure to follow the BREC Facebook page to find out when. Theres a large BMX park that always seems to have kids riding in it, as well as a skate park. There's plenty of people around so I've never felt uncomfortable going there, even when it's getting dark. This park is one of the biggest reasons I chose my apartment complex. read more
