I went to see a second movie here and it smelled the same. That would be my biggest downfall. Maybe I'd go back - but this seems more like the "dollar theaters" back home (where you legit pay like $2 to see a movie) I'd like to check out some other theaters to see if they are nicer - cleaner/bigger, and maybe better/cleaner concessions areas.

Whilst that was a nice gesture at the time 6 months later we return to use our complimentary tickets only to be told by the manager Caitlin that they were no longer valid. Never mind that Hoyts didn't have anything showing we wanted to watch until now. We feel it was a very mean act to not let us use the tickets. At the time of receiving the tickets we were not told of an expiry date. We purchased the original movie seats on a gift voucher that didn't expire until 2025. We will not return to Hoyts again. Very poor customer service.

What many people don't realise is that the same people that operate the South Bank cinemas have a few other locations; Hawthorne, Balmoral and Victoria Point. Victoria Point in particular is my favourite, mainly because it's closer to where I live, but also because there is ample free parking and it's a lot quieter than its city based counterparts. Victoria Point also offers a Deluxe Cinema option, which costs an incredibly cheap $12.50. It's not quite as superior as Gold Class in other movie complexes, but it's still a step up from the regular cinemas. The chairs are more plush and in groups of two. You can also order food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages, to be brought to you during the movie. My only complaint is that the chairs do not recline, one of my favourite aspects of Gold Class. However, if you want a bit of a treat you won't find much better than this at such a super low price. And if you're seeing a movie suitable for children, it's a great way to avoid noisy kids or bravado teenagers. Take note that opening hours depend on session times, but the general rule is that doors open 15 minutes before the start of the first session each day, and close about 15 minutes after the start of the final session of the day. On Mondays there are no late-night sessions.

The hyperplex cinemas are not like your average cinema as they are owned by the Hyperdome shopping centre. The tickets are about average priced. Gold glass tickets are a set price no discounts just because you are a student or anything. I do love the fact that if you buy you tickets online you can print them yourself without having to line up with everybody else. I would avoid the cinemas during school holidays as they can get packed full of children. They do have mothers in pram showings and day out with the girls, where you can do group booking. For these special events they are limited shows, like in not every movie out is offered.
