Everest Montanha is a gem of a restaurant that offers high-quality, authentic Nepali dishes right in Lisbon.
It is located on a side street which might be easy to walk past, but this place deserves all of the accolades and compliments! Inside, it may seem like a quiet, peaceful restaurant with dinner lighting, wooden furniture and Nepali decorations, but it's definitely providing a top tier food experience. It is run by a Nepali family who are bringing the best Nepali dishes for us to try here in Portugal. They are also very sweet, patient, attentive and showed so much appreciation as well.
As an Indian, I didn't know what to expect with the spice level of the food and if it would be toned down. However, I was very impressed! Each spicy dish brings out the heat and you can also choose your preference for how you prefer your spice level.
We started with onion bhaji as an appetizer which was on the house and it blew me away! It has a crunchy texture, which doesn't shy away with the slices of onion and the spices that add up to a salty, spicy and delicious bite! I highly recommend dipping it into the chutneys offered - there are 3 kinds, which consist of tamarind, chili, and mint. Just a heads up, the chili-based chutney was very spicy but perfect for the heat lovers!
We also tried the chicken momos, which are paired with a lentil-based sauce. These were filled to the brim with the meat, which was seasoned perfectly, and the dough was the right texture and consistency.
For our main course, we tried the matar paneer, which is peas with house made paneer cheese in a deliciously spicy sauce, and the Himalayan shahi korma which has tender pieces of lamb that are stewed in a flavorful sauce of dried fruit, cream, tomato, cashew and cilantro. These curries come with basmati rice on the side as well. This was my first time trying these Nepali dishes and I was blown away by how delicious they are! You can taste the various spices, ginger, garlic which all marry well together.
Overall, Everest Montanha deserves all the love and support so come and check it out if you want an amazing meal in Lisbon! read more
