Birmingham Martial Arts was doing one hour sessions at Shain Park in Downtown Birmingham during the…read moresummer of 2020, so we checked it out. The manager came right over and introduced herself and our son joined the session. She was friendly and she informed us about the outdoor classes due to COVID-19 and we signed our son up on the spot. After about four sessions I noticed that our son was spending an accumulated forty-five minutes waiting in line to do the movements that the instructors were having him do. For $110 per month I was hoping for him to be much more active. The pillars listed on their website are self-esteem, discipline, focus, respect, & fitness. There wasn't enough activity for them to hit the pillar of fitness. So, we canceled the membership. They had too many kids and not enough instructors. They did other things like playing dodgeball and carrying punching bags to and from a marker, which were good activities, but I can't get over the lack of activity for most of the sixty-minute sessions. The owner had a group of teenagers and he was doing synchronized kicks and punches with them during these one hour sessions and that looked awesome. But, the kids in my son's group were getting the shaft. I understand the importance of teaching good technique, which the instructors were doing well, but if you have young kids who have trouble doing jumping jacks with good form then it is likely that they won't be able to do kicks and punches with good form. It would have been much better to have them do five-minute routines that included various movements like punches, kicks, squats, burpees, push-ups, lunges, etc. I gave three stars because the manager was kind and personable and the instruction was good and they refunded us the $110 for the next month after we had cancelled during the previous month. But, for my money I would rather have my son do something where he is almost constantly moving.

Tony is fantastic and very patient with the students. He makes the classes both fun and challenging. The class is also a great cardio work out for our active boys, and at the same time teaches respect and discipline. We highly recommend BMA!

I Guru Bruce Jenkins (Moroland Martial Arts) have been helping Master Gerry Tablada teach Arnis at…read morethe Great Lakes TKD school for two years now and have been watching the instructor(s) teach the Wednesday night TKD kids class and I personally feel this is a great school for Adults or kids to learn TKD Martial Arts or you can learn Arnis(Filipino Martial Arts, Silat, small circle Jujitsu, etc.). If you have any questions about this school, we encourage you to come down to the school and watch a class or two to see for yourself. The TKD staff, Master Gerry and Guru Bruce , are happy to answer any questions you have about the TKD programs or the Arnis programs. The TKD school is family friendly school. It is a clean safe place for adults and kids to learn martial arts. TKD: This is one of the top TKD schools in the Macomb Area and Beyond. Arnis/Silat/Kali, etc. : This is the only school in the Detriot area with two Masters of Filipino Martial Arts teaching at the same school. Both are highly ranked instructors in the Presas Arnis, FMA, Kali, Ecsrima, Balintawak, etc, systems as well as multiple styles of silat(kuntao, betawi. Serak,etc.). These are adult only classes. There are quarterly seminars and workshops for additional in depth training on specific topics. Regards, Guru Bruce Jenkins Grand Technical Advisor Moroland Martial Arts

Weird I called his phone number he left and my husband called and there was no return phone call. Also no response to the Better Business Bureau. Kind of funny they fraudulently charged my credit card but if Bill really wanted to contact us and resolve this issue I guess he couldnt look at his computer to get our phone number. Stranger I had several calls to his employee Kelly and Bill was totally unaware ! This place is a joke. Also as interested as he claims to Bill never attended any of my daughters classes even to monitor his "teachers ". Don't waste your money and protect your credit card !!!!!
