My parents were living in the independent villas until recently when the village decided 1 of them could not return from a rehab facility because of the amount of care he needed. That amount of care has been the same for several years now, since before they moved in. We had nurses and family in daily to help; the village doesn't provide or help with any of that need. We had about 1 week to find a new place to live & get them moved. The amount of stress and emotional drain on my parents was very difficult. In the 2 1/2 yrs they lived there the rent was raised 3 times when we were told it wouldn't be raised very often. The amount they charge these older people for what they provide is ridiculous! We couldn't get an electrical issue (ceiling fan) repaired, even though it could have started a fire until we bought our own because they said it was our responsibility, even though it was there when they rented the place. The only benefit of living in the independent living villa is they mow the grass & call once a day to check on them. Other than that they do nothing for the residence. The "transportation" they provide is very limited to small amount of days & hours that you have to get your dr appts to fit into. Do not believe all the promises they make before you sign the lease because none of it is true. The villas are not set up for older people even though it is in a retirement village. Hallways are too narrow and a wheelchair can't even fit out the back door.

Besides her though so many bizarre things happened there that we moved our person out after a year. We discovered that the way they handled OCD was the old school way of taking away privileges and physically moving them if they were stuck. This is known now in the field of psychology as so wrong and only causes the person more intense anxiety. They initially promised weekly counseling which was covered by insurance but they were only taken one time in a year. They have a nursing policy to not notify residents of a Drs. Appt until just before it. Well someone with OCD NEEDS AN HOUR TO PREPARE. SO they would notify then and then physically take them to appts. They did the same with counseling appts but if they encountered any difficulties they would blow off appt and blame resident. The resident wanted to go but wasn't given adequate warning to make it possible. The same procedure was used for shopping trips. A 15 min. Warning was given and if they weren't dressed yet for day etc. they'd just leave without them. If the residents knew the night before even they could put out clothes and plan to be ready. Nope! Too much trouble for them. That's only a bit of the problems we had there. Good Luck!

They hold their employees to a high standard, and treat them well. Great food for residents! So many activities and little excursions for the residents to get out and about in the community too. They go above and beyond to make the residents feel that Stillwater is not a facility, but their home and a community. Beautiful apartments for the residents with a lot of unique safety features. I recently helped tour different assisted livings for my grandmother. I think the highest compliment I can give Stillwater is that not a single one we found was as nice, welcoming, and friendly as this place. Every place we toured, I compared to Stillwater. If Edwardsville was the area we were looking for her to live, without a doubt or any hesitation, I would have her at Stillwater!

From the moment that we first contacted the community we have felt nothing but warmth and compassion. Their staff is always smiling, friendly and helpful. The Community has a warm family feel. The food is EXCELLENT! If you are in the market for an assisted living community you should check this place out. My Mom has a dog and she was able to bring it with her as Stillwater is pet friendly. Mom has commented on several occasions about how she feels safe and pampered. We wish we hadn't waited so long to make the change.

My source tells me (very earnestly), this was because, "The Kitchen doesn't really know what a Cornish game hen is --they are not familiar with it in Alton, IL." So interesting. So, the Kitchen knows enough to "post" it on the menu, but doesn't know what a Cornish game hen is... Hmm. To help out, I am posting photos of Cornish Game hens .. which are quite inexpensive and readily available all over the United States in super markets. No holiday spirit at St. Clare's!

I can't recommend the Meridian Village Reach rehab facility. My wife spent more than a week there…read morerecovering from an emergency partial hip replacement. While she was there, she showed multiple signs of a UTI, possibly from catheterization during her surgery. I mentioned this several times and was ignored until I showed staff positive results from a home UTI test. They then agreed to send out a urine sample for test, but never got back to us with the results. Subsequent testing at BJC confirmed a UTI and my wife was put on antibiotics. Conjecture by a friend is that Meridian didn't want to report an infection to the state and was simply waiting for her to be discharged rather than taking action. Home care would have been better and safer for my wife.

The REACH program at Meridian is awesome, they are so friendly to my grandma who has had to be here…read moretwice now, they offer activities, bring therapy dogs, bring her snacks sometimes, at first she wanted to go home but now she kind of likes it here, she is still wanting to go home but at the same time she is comfortable here, they are quick at bringing her medicine when she isn't feeling good, the only thing I would recommend improving on is the therapy department here, there is a BIG lack of communication and don't always do the best job they either overwork her too much or they don't do enough at times, but other than that I think if you have to stay here for a short time for physical rehab I think it's a good place to go to. I can't vouch for the other living arraignments or their wait time for placement but as far as the REACH program I say excellent! Thank you for helping my grandma during this temporary hard time

I did not receive any support, was thrown under the bus on several occasions, and to top it off, I was denied well earned commission that totaled over $1,200. I found the community to be extremely over priced, it is in no way worth the money. Team members caused a resident to miss her doctors' appointment, the Executive Director did nothing to assistant. Due to employees smoking close to an open door, the hallways smell like smoke. There's a VERY high turn over rate, so they are often short staffed, residents would express their concerns. Several employees are related to the Executive Director, this is not a good thing. The food is subpar, I would not refer anyone there. Try Asbury Village instead. The staff and the community overall is far better than Cedarhurst of Godfrey. The size of apartments are larger, significantly lower in cost, there's lots of tenure, the team is very helpful, knowledgeable, and the meals are amazing!!
