Being close to Christmas they also still had all of their decorations out which my daughter loved. If you love fire fighting and the history behind it this is a great little stop. It's cool to see the evolution of all the equipment and techniques. They have come a long way over the years but there was some real innovation back in the day that was used to overcome the challenges that firefighters would face on a regular basis. Admission is free, they had suckers and a souvenir hat for kids and small donations are appreciated especially if you enjoyed your visit.

Our guide Ms. Coughlin, was great at telling the story of BFD, from its inception to current day... all of the other volunteers there were also fun to talk with. each had a little different look at the workings of the fire department. the layout of the museum is easy to follow, and guided tour or not there is a wealth of information, and sights. there is some interactivity for kids, and if you knew someone who is BFD, one of the folks here has a story about them. very nice museum to tour on a cold day (they have free coffee) or a place out of the sun on a hot day. admission was free but donations are accepted. a building full of interesting history.

Yelp is here too…read more Along with a large selection of artists/galleries (over 30) mostly from Buffalo but also other parts of NY state. There is photography, including some of the local scenes, paint on canvas, sculpture, media art and more. This is an annual event founded by Fritz Able, to showcase some of the terrific art from the area. They are coming from far and wide o see it. Today I heard people had come from NYC, DC and Miami, and those are just from hearing snippets of chatter. This weekend is your chance to see these artists and galleries under one roof. That roof happens to be the Buffalo Public Library's roof, which is a nice and easy to navigate building. The art starts outside with some colorful circles of art from a NYC based artist who was at UB for her studies some years ago. They lead the way in. There are some lectures at 12 today, which is what the $5 entrance fee is for. Tomorrow no lectures and no fee. There is something here for everyone's taste. And even if you find nothing of interest to your eyes or ears there is bound to be something for your stomach: Delish with coffee and muffins, Sun Burmese with black rice rolls and more, Askers, Nickel City, English Pies and of course some wine and beer for later, it's Buffalo. Come down, ride a bike or take the subway as there is not much parking around here, see what's happening on the local art scene. And pick up a handy Yelp reusable grocery bag just for coming. Admission is free but they also accept donations. When we visited, we started at the Mercantile, then went through the Heritage Building, then the same curator took us through the Warner Museum last. The Warner Museum has a lot to see, including antique musical instruments, antique toys, a football display dedicated to Pop Warner, as well as some of his other belongings, Native American artifacts, as well as vintage household items. We spent about 20 minutes here. The museum is well organized and there's plenty to see in here. I highly recommend making the trip to visit all of the Concord Historical Society buildings.

In years past, there was a silent disco and a photo booth that we had the pleasure of trying out. We still had a great time, with live music and of course many beers to taste test. I tend to lean toward IPAs and this year so did the stands. I was able to try out some porters or stouts and friends said they had a good selection of ciders. Wasn't busy this year-great for me but I assume stressful for those who run the event.

We attended the 1pm to 4pm session, and there was a huge line of people waiting outdoors in the 10 degree temperatures, even after the 1pm opening time. It's a shame they wouldn't allow people to queue up inside, especially since they already had tickets and just wanted to get inside and get warm and start drinking! We had Will Call tickets, and we were able to skip the lines, go to will call, and were allowed to enter right from there. Um... yeah... get Will Call next time and skip the lines. Seems crazy, right? Buy your ticket in advance = wait in line. Wait to get it there at the window = skip. Hmmm. Anyhow- tons and tons of options to drink. I think they said they had appx 150 different beverages to sample! Even my non-beer-drinking pal had their fill of the different delicious ciders they had on top, plenty to choose from and plenty to get a good buzz on. I was happy to see a line of taxis outside waiting for pickup, too - very smart for the organizers to have at the ready at an event like this. We've been to similar events at the Armory and at the ball park - I would have to say out of the 3, my favorite was at the ball park b/c they were more spread out, you had more room to roam, the lines seemed to be shorter too. But, still, a great event, a fantastic way to try so many different amazing beers in one place.

Checkin was a little confusing, not for ticket holders but for the actual volunteers for the event. They did not seem well trained or informed. But ok. Once in its a large space. Music was MUCH too loud for the space. It's a Monday, not Friday. But ok. The restaurants represented were Oliver's Riverside grill M&T executive chef DiCanillos Black Sheep Osteria 166 COPPA Toutant Acqua Lockport country club The Mansion Buffalo Proper Lombardos Barrel and Brine Jaguar at the Bistro Nickel city Cheese Bourbon and Butter Impressive list. Given the list the expectations were pretty high and most delivered very well. The plates were all generous so no issue there. Lockport Country Club represented really well. Of the savory tastes I found them the best, with a close second by Oliver's. Lockport served a version of Asian beef that made me want to join the club. Oliver's did their grilled peaches, which I've had before and always enjoy. Newcomer Barrel and Brine was another close contended with a kimchee laden beef bite. Loved it. On the sweet side Nickel City Cheese knocked it out of the park. Brie ice cream. I hope they start to sell that in the store. By far the best thing served, but I voted savory for my top choice. There were tables, high and low, with chairs if needed to sit at. They filled up quickly once the general crowd came in but it worked out for all. Plenty of garbage cans around. I didn't pay much attention to the auctions or raffle but it seemed like many others did. Paid valet parking or street. I did street so not sure how much valet was. I'm knocking off a star for a few things: It's not a non-profit, I think after this many years it should be. Opened late. Not all restaurants were ready even when it did open. Music too loud. But for the food it's 5 stars. It was just some of the rest of the experience that knocked it down. If it happens again next year you should consider going. Fun way to spend a Mon night.

Carte Blanche - Smoked Corn Ice Cream with Spicy Popcorn, Corn has that natural Sweetness that's brought out with a light hit of Chile packed popcorn Bits. Black & Blue Steak & Crab - Smoked Strip Steak topped with a Bourbon Pickled Cherry Relish and Crispy Sunchokes, the Meat was Tender to the Touch with a light profile of Smoke that balances well with the Cherries that had notes of Caramel (Steakhouse Bite with Manhattan Accompaniments) the Sunchokes with their Potato Chip like Crisp lightened it up a bit.
