This was my first time here. What a great little festival,…read moresomething to do. Traffic was not the best getting into the parking lot. Very slow moving and took about 10-20 extra minutes waiting in line. I like that the school was using their parking space for fundraising for the sports clubs so you know the cost of parking is going to a good cause. The festival itself was decent. It had a lot of food vendors and a crap load of local shops/vendors (added photos of some hand made items). It actually took a while to look at everything! There was a handful of rides for the kids too. I do wish there was more corn themed food options like elote, or grilled corn, or other food dishes using corn in more creative ways. There was only 4 corn things (that I saw): corn on the cob, corn ice cream, kettle corn and a stand to buy a fresh bunch of corn. Corn on the cob 10/10. Delicious, sweet corn, dipped in butter (pretty sure it's unsalted butter). They had tall stand-up tables set up with salt shakers to eat your corn at or in the tent next door had picnic tables to sit down too (or you can eat in the beer tent... It was crazy to me that they allowed underage people in the beer tent if they were with their parents. They couldn't drink obviously, but allowed the family to stay together. At that point, they might as well just have allowed you to walk around with a plastic beer cup.) I didn't try the corn ice cream but I'd like to next time! Kyle tried the bacon bomb sandwich from Hammi's BBQ truck (photo posted). He says he could eat it every day for the rest of his life. I thought it had too much sausage in the mixture. I'd like to taste more of a bacon/pork flavor than sausage. But other than that it really was good.

While in Buffalo recently, friends suggested we make the hour trek to Ellicottville to check out the festival. It's located in a small ski village, and -- never one to turn down the chance to check out a new place -- I jumped at the chance. Street parking was relatively easy to find, and we soon were meandering through the downtown at the foothills of the ski resort. With hills all around us and brilliantly color-changing leaves, it was here to beat the beautiful setting. If you know local festivals, you know what to expect -- booths with all sorts of arts, crafts, snacks, and unique local finds lined the middle of the streets, which had been closed off for pedestrian-only traffic. We perused the different booths and stores before stopping a spell for lunch. Happen to be out this way in the fall? Head on over and check it out for a relaxed afternoon in a colorful and cozy setting.

The drive down the (do I need to stop saying "the" in front of highways?) 219 was beautiful, and the weather was just the right amount of chilly to be enjoying my flannel and boots and hot apple cider. The main downside here is the traffic getting into town, but there really is nothing that can be done about it. You just have to be ready and be patient. The church just inside town was graciously offering "donation" parking (as opposed to the $10 parking further into town), and since it was on the edge of town, made it super easy to leave when we were done. The town of Ellicottville is also very charming, and I would love to come back again to enjoy the area on a normal day!

Always park along the side streets or in the school parking lot. It's a walkable distance. If you have a mobility impairment, it might be hard to find a parking spot during peak times since a lot is going on in the village. Food tickets: 50¢ per food ticket and no item is over 12 tickets (so for $6 you can get a full portion of a burger or other entree). I brought $20 with me and was FULL. I had around 10 tickets left over which I passed along to a friend who was staying later. The burgers: I am SHOOK that people say they can't seem to find burgers at BurgerFest... there had to be around 15-17 different types and styles of burgers! From a burger taco to pierogi and grilled cheese - to ice cream sandwiches- lots of creativity along with the classic burgers. Entertainment: Terry Buckwald is always a crowd pleaser and kept our spirits high in the heat! Lots of fun with those we sat by! Oh- did I forget to mention that there is shade areas with tables and chairs??? They have a good amount of tents to cool off under and sit/eat food! Main Street has a lot of fun with their performers and car show! Will be back again next year!!!

I get to Judge with other Yelpers, unfortunately we don't get to try every single one (out of 23 Burgers that were at the Festival, I only had 6) I met with my other Yelp Judges (Perry, Josh & Matt) and we were off. We were only assigned to 3 Burger Stands (we had to rate them in between 1 & 5 to pick the best one. The burger we choose goes up against the burger the other Group chooses to win the award for Best Burger). 1st one was Big Belly BBQ we were to Judge the Sirloin Steak Burger with Mushrooms & Onions (I thought the Burger was perfectly Cooked, couple strips of Juicy Bacon but there were hardly any Mushrooms and way too many Caramelized Onions. I loved that they used Cheez Wiz, Perry, Josh & Matt all thought they should've used sliced Cheddar or Something. It was also very messy to eat. The Mac n Cheese they had was to die for Our next burger was from Soho Project (This stand was all about serving Vegan/Veggie Burgers, the patties were made from either Black Beans, Spinach, Beets or Spicy Mushrooms, No Meat in these Burgers). we chose the Black Bean Patties topped with Lettuce, Mango Salsa, Jalapenos, Guacamole and a homemade Sriracha Ketchup (This was our favorite burger, All the different colors it had made it look very appetizing to eat it was so Vibrant. You get Smokiness from the Black Beans, Sweetness from the Salsa, Crunch from the Lettuce and Spiciness from the Ketchup & the Jalapeno's, Smoothness from the Guacamole and the Multigrain Bun as the thing holding it all together. The patty was so soft it broke apart so easily. Out of the burgers we tried this was our favorite). Although I'm not a Vegetarian, this was amazing Burger. Lastly we tried 2 Burgers from the Grandview Drive-In, Mostly we had to wait 10 minutes for the Burgers. The first was the Shredded Beef Burger (It looked more like a Pulled Pork Sandwich and didn't resemble a Burger one bit. The Meat felt warm, the sauce was overpowering. We didn't like it at all, The Pizza was worse than that. A Burger topped with Canned tomato Sauce and Mozzarella Cheese, like Perry said (take 2 American Classics and turn it into something not so great, it was an Amalgamate Disaster). Burger was Burnt and Overcooked, I also didn't like that Canned Pizza Sauce Flavor. When it was time to try the other Burger that the other Yelp Judges picked for us to try, we weren't that Ecstatic. From the Comfort Zone Café we tried the Chiavetta's Chicken Dinner Burger (It was more like a Chicken Patty, it was dry and that Vinegar Sauce overwhelmed my Mouth). In the end between the 8 Judges we Picked Soho Project for the winning Burger. After the Judging was over I went over and waited in line at Lomo Lomo to try there Penang Burger. It was the best burger that I had there, Angus Beef Patty topped with a Spicy Red Curry Peanut Sauce and a mixture of Toasted Rice & Red Quinoa with a Kimchi Pickle on the Bottom all on a Homemade Sweet Potato Bun (I loved the heat from the Peanut Sauce and I told them they should market those Sweet Potato Buns). I also went back to have another Black Bean Burger from Soho Project along with a side of Fire Roasted Salsa and a cup of Mixed Berry Lemonade to wash it all down. Then I finished it off with Something Sweet, I went over to Nitro Magic (Ice Cream made with Liquid Nitrogen right before your very eyes). First time I've ever seen Liquid Nitrogen up close in Buffalo. Choices were between Vanilla, Chocolate, Mint & Salted Caramel Pretzel (I chose Vanilla) to see a Liquid-y Puddle of Ice Cream going back to its frozen state within seconds was Remarkable. my time here was amazing, If they need me to come back and Judge again. I'll be There !!!

There were "bleachers" through out the festival. I feel this was a great thing. It one gave more options for people to sit down, eat and relax. Which I think in turn cleared alot of space up. We walked through the festival for over three hours and not once felt crowded, and I really think that's because of all the new resting spots. I always get the family tickets from tops ahead of time, then collect the tickets from the tent. Always an easy process, shorter lines. Average good was going for 8 to 10 tickets, same as previous years so I did not see any increase there. And most had a 4 ticket sample item as well. Loved the variety..trying new restaurants. Entertainment is always spot on, that hasn't changed either. Just a good food festival..this year weather was perfect for it as well.

Pro tip: buy your tickets at TOPS before the festival. They're cheaper, and you get (non-alcoholic) drink coupons to use ar the fest. Our favorite this year was Nickel City Vice's "You're Nuts," a peanut butter cheesecake ice cream sandwich. The boys nearly died laughing when I went up to place our order and asked the guy, "Can I have You're Nuts?" We also happily demolished small FREE bags of Checkers & Rally's fries, some ethic eats, and Buffalo classics (Nick Charlap's custard, Just Pizza). The Taste of Buffalo is one of those events that reminds you how many great local restaurants and food businesses we have.

They had rides for all ages, games, food, snacks, and live music. It literally was something for everyone to do. However it's actually the flagship fair & carnival of the Tonawandas, and it really really rocks. I came here many times, in fact I performed here once or twice thanks to a friend, and it was always a great time, in the summer, by the Erie Canal in the Tonawandas, with good food, excited people, interesting music (unless I was playing in which case it was crap), and lots and lots and lots of very good looking people. If you live in WNY or are visiting at the right time of year, and you've never been to Canalfest, you should come down. There are a thousand reasons to have a great time here and only one reason not to, which was me performing live music here, which no longer is a problem. At some point it'll be purchased by a conglomerate and watered down, at which point it'll become Clearchannelfest. You don't want that to happen, so get here and enjoy it before it does.
