Court of Master Sommeliers - New Master Sommeliers 2022

Court of Master Sommeliers

For more than 15 years I worked as a wine steward at the Disney…read morehttp://www.yelp.com/biz/wine-cellar-anaheim and was fortunate enough to have Disney pay for my formal education and certification to become a certified sommelier. Even with the years of working with wine I was surprised how much I didn't know. Disney provided many months of weekly classes and then two days with the Masters which included more training and then the test. There was a lot of studying and tasting required to pass the test. I had hundreds of note cards and read the Sotheby's Wine Encyclopedia from cover to cover and more notes. The Masters are a bit intimidating and I think they like it that way. When you stand up to describe a wine you have to say, "Masters and Fellow Students" before you give your description and when you fail they let you know it. So every time it comes to your turn you sweat, your voice gets shaky and you do a little praying too. It sounds harsh but the Court of Master Sommeliers is the best in the country. They are the Masters that work at the wine distributors, hotels, and the best restaurants. I no longer work at my Mickey Mouse job...or even in the F&B industry but I am glad that I had the opportunity to be humbled by the Masters. Here is the list of their courses www.mastersommeliers.org/courses

I recently came across Bliss on my Twitter feed and I'm super glad I did. The wine buyer Alleah travels the world looking for great wines at great prices. After chatting with her briefly about what wines I like and don't like, Alleah put together a mixed case tailored just for me and shipped it out. My wine arrived quickly, in great shape and the price was extremely reasonable. The Web site is cool too the way you can see exactly what your getting. Very user friendly. Check Bliss out. You'll be glad you did. I'm adding some pics of some of my favorite bottles so far.

Some of my friends from SCWL and I chipped in on a case of Quinta Da Zaralhoa, a Portuguese red blend purchased from our friend Alleah Friedrichs at Bliss Wine Imports. Because our custom order was shipped from Portugal, it took a month or so to arrive. We were all really anticipating it. So here's what I thought of the bottle: The initial characteristics included a fairly inky coloring, a medium viscosity, with lavender being the dominant fragrance. The flavoring includes notes of rose petals, rhubarb and pomegranate, with a hint of oak. About midway through my first glass, I noticed the very soft tannic effect and the subtle spicy finish. I saved a glass to try on the second day, which I highly recommend. After being open for over 24 hours in a large decanter, the soft tannins had receded a good bit, as did the subtle spice in the finish. This made it even more pleasurable. So what do I think of this drink? The flavor notes that I found were a mixture of fruit and floral and were combined with a soft tannic effect, which produced a well-balanced drinking experience - not too dry, not too sweet. This was a very easy-drinking bottle and can be enjoyed by pretty much any red wine lover out there in my opinion. Would I buy it again? YES! Congratulations on a good selection Alleah!!!
